Leighton Meester **QUITS** Gossip Girl For Films!

But in two years when her contract is up. She is announcing it now to let the word out to the film industry, so they can start developing scripts for her.

So that in two years, she have plenty of scripts to choose from.

by Anonymousreply 6411/10/2012

Uh oh, get the support group (and that other thread) ready:%0D %0D Shelly, Bonnie, McLean, Delta, Suzanne, get up! You need to go to Leighton Meester's home. Your exemplary services are needed!

by Anonymousreply 112/14/2010

It'll be schadenfreude when this twit flop-er-oos.

Can't wait.

Note to Miss Meester: Honeybun, you ain't all that!

by Anonymousreply 212/14/2010
so they can start developing scripts for her.

Oh, honey. you need a mental health check up.

by Anonymousreply 312/14/2010

Clever girl.

by Anonymousreply 412/14/2010

Okay, OP is exaggerating. She said she's not renewing her contract and plans to leave in 2 years when it's up. Given that everyone on the show wants out, I assume no one is renewing their contract. The part about announcing it now so scripts can be developed for her is complete BS. She said no such thing.

by Anonymousreply 512/14/2010

Yeah, me too.

by Anonymousreply 612/14/2010

At least Blake Lively has Ben Affleck to get her in the movies... Leighton, better call Matt Damon and see if he's interested....

by Anonymousreply 712/14/2010

She's going to have to fight Minka Kelly for the same roles. Who can tell them apart?

by Anonymousreply 812/14/2010

Sorry. Minka makes Leighton look average

by Anonymousreply 912/14/2010

I hope what happens to the Dawsons Creek people happen here. Blake Lively is kind of like Katie Holmes-the 'star' of the show, the promising film career, and yet it all fizzled out because she actually has no talent and married a robot.%0D %0D Hopefully Leighton (who is by far the most talented actor on the show) can carve a Michelle Williams type of career for herself. %0D %0D The boys can all disappear for all I care.

by Anonymousreply 1012/14/2010

Gossip Girl would have to call it a day if she left. She carries that show.

by Anonymousreply 1112/14/2010

This season will be her last year

by Anonymousreply 1207/26/2011

The show is already played out anyway.

by Anonymousreply 1307/26/2011

She is the only thing worth watching and the only actor who can make their horrid scrips seem almost clever at times.

by Anonymousreply 1407/26/2011

This season will probably be the show's last anyway.

by Anonymousreply 1507/26/2011

Great move, Leighton!

by Anonymousreply 1607/26/2011

The show has been coasting on fumes since the second season.

It was fun for a brief while . . .

I watched The Lincoln Lawyer last night and was struck by how the silly Chuck Bass hoarse whisper is so much a copy of Ryan Phillipe's voice.

Even though Ryan Phillipe is a straight guy, he talks like the queeniest gay on the planet who is very self-consciously trying to butch it up. That's what Chuck Bass sounds like, too.

by Anonymousreply 1707/26/2011

David Caruso and Shelly Long left their respective shows as they were peaking in popularity. "Gossip Girl" is well past its freshness date and is in decline.

by Anonymousreply 1807/26/2011
"So that in two years, she have plenty of scripts to choose from."%0D %0D Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 1907/26/2011

The first season was the best. If it weren't for Leighton, Gossip Girl would be damn near unwatchable. The girl is talented, but her movie choices are complete shit. I have no idea how Blake Lively keeps on getting these high profile roles and Leighton is stuck doing schlocky horror and teenybopper movies with Selena Gomez. She's so much better than that.

by Anonymousreply 2007/26/2011

Actually, there's no "Oh dear," r19. There's no rule prohibiting ending sentences with prepositions, though many people mistakenly assume there is.

Indeed, when an editor complained to Winston Churchill that he had written a book which has sentences ending in prepositions, Churchill responded, "That is something with which I will not up with put!"

by Anonymousreply 2107/26/2011

Leighton Meester will cut a bitch.

by Anonymousreply 2207/26/2011

Minka Kelly is hot hot hot.

by Anonymousreply 2307/26/2011

I doubt the show has two years left in it anyway.

by Anonymousreply 2407/26/2011

"I have no idea how Blake Lively keeps on getting these high profile roles"

Oh, I do.

by Anonymousreply 2507/26/2011

I heard they are going to hire Fiona Shaw as an unknown older sister, who spent her formative years growing up in the UK, in a working-class family. She discovers her birthright, moves to NYC and becomes the new Queen Bee. Face it, Fiona can totally pull this off.

by Anonymousreply 2607/26/2011

Older sister to whom??

by Anonymousreply 2707/26/2011

Read it again, r21. A little word like "will" will help the sentence tremendously!

by Anonymousreply 2807/26/2011

Leighton will do very well.

by Anonymousreply 2907/26/2011

I have been catching up on previous seasons on DVD (yeah, I know but Blockbuster rents them for $0.49 per. These seasons are not available free on the Internet; at least I couldn't find them). Just finished watching Seasons 1 and 2. %0D %0D As someone posted upthread, it was stupid of the CW to think it could go beyond HS. If they'd been smart, they should have started with prep school and finished with HS. Kind of hard to believe these kids would act the same way once in college.%0D %0D Must say this though, I was totally shocked by Ed Westwick's pronounced English accent! I knew he was English but WOW!%0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 3007/27/2011

The "Valley Girls" episode of Gossip Girl help kill the momentum. The show ended the second season on a slightly-better-than-mediocre note and I haven't been back since.

Fun fact: Leighton's older brother was the catalyst for the USAFA rape/sexual assault scandal back in the early 00s.

by Anonymousreply 3107/27/2011

Other fun fact: Leighton was born in prison!

by Anonymousreply 3207/27/2011

It'll be appropriate, then, when she dies there as well.

by Anonymousreply 3307/27/2011

She wants to become a movie star, and someday win an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 3407/27/2011

She'll have to settle for riding in the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile during the Texas State Fair.

by Anonymousreply 3507/27/2011

Leighton who?

by Anonymousreply 3607/27/2011

Wait... Gossip Girl is still on?

by Anonymousreply 3707/27/2011

Leighton Meester 'wants custody of brother' after accusing mother of spending money sent for him

by Anonymousreply 3807/27/2011

Poor Leighton. Her deadbeat mother wants her to pay for her lifestile - 10 thousand grand a month. I usually am for kids helping out their parents but this is too much.

by Anonymousreply 3907/27/2011

WOW! R39! 10 thousand grand a month! Is that like a bazillion trillion?

by Anonymousreply 4007/27/2011

Does anyone over 16 watch that show?

by Anonymousreply 4107/27/2011

Sorry R39 - I meant 10 thousand dollars (I thought 10 thousand grand meant that). As always my lack of knowledge of the english language bites me in the ass. As a non native speaker, I apologize.

by Anonymousreply 4207/27/2011

I had no idea her convict mother is up to old tricks. How are people to believe her bro's not a rapist when he obviously comes from questionable stock?

by Anonymousreply 4307/31/2011

Another fun fact:

Leighton's father and her uncle were co-founders of the '80s band Mr. Mister.

Before the band was signed to a label, the group was called Meester Meester, but the label wouldn't go for it -- hence, Mr. Mister.

I made up every bit of that, above.

by Anonymousreply 4407/31/2011
As someone posted upthread, it was stupid of the CW to think it could go beyond HS.

Why? It certainly worked for the original "90210," plus the original GG source novels extend into their college years.
The "Valley Girls" episode of Gossip Girl help kill the momentum.

You do know that it was supposed to be a de facto pilot for a spinoff set in the '80s and focusing on Lily's childhood exploits, right? I disagree that it killed the momentum of the show. No, what's fucked it up lately is the writers' apparent 180-degree mid-season turnaround to kill a potentially awesome storyline -- Blair and Dan getting together as a couple -- and have Blair end up with Chuck yet *again* (and the Monaco prince storyline is just a brief speed-bump in that tale).

by Anonymousreply 4507/31/2011

Who is this woman? Do you pronounce her name Layton or Leeton? I've never heard of her, and I don't think she's all that pretty either.

by Anonymousreply 4607/31/2011

She's telling us NOW so she doesn't have to tell us LATER!

by Anonymousreply 4707/31/2011

by Anonymousreply 4807/31/2011

The only reason I've ever heard of her is because she was in the "Good Girls Go Bad" video with Starship Cobra.

by Anonymousreply 4907/31/2011

meester? i think i dated u seester.

by Anonymousreply 5007/31/2011

The first season, or the first part of the first season, was really great. But the writers strike really fucked up the momentum and it never really recovered. Each season has been progressively worse. They've never lived up to the promise of those first 7-8 episodes.

by Anonymousreply 5107/31/2011

Any word on her quitting music too?

by Anonymousreply 5207/31/2011

Happy Gilmore thought he killed the "Meester, Meester" lady when he dropped the air conditioner on her.

by Anonymousreply 5307/31/2011

I'm tired of the seester threads, r50!

by Anonymousreply 5407/31/2011

"Leighton intentionally assaulted Constance by throwing her to the ground and repeatedly hitting her with a bottle," the legal papers say.

HOLY SHIT, Leighton is TRASH

by Anonymousreply 5507/31/2011

LMAO @R55.

She *is* a native Texan who was born in prison.

by Anonymousreply 5607/31/2011
"so they can start developing scripts for her."%0D %0D [italic] OH MY SIDES!!!!! [/italic]%0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 5709/06/2011

Her mom should've knocked Leighton on her keester!!

by Anonymousreply 5809/06/2011

Leighton cut her hair. Looks really cute.

by Anonymousreply 5911/08/2012

Well, she's still on GG.

by Anonymousreply 6011/09/2012

Moron at R59, she did not cut her hair. It's rolled into a full, low bun.

by Anonymousreply 6111/09/2012

No, it was cut.

by Anonymousreply 6211/10/2012

GG cannot go on without her, she really made the show what it is.

by Anonymousreply 6311/10/2012

This is Gossip Girl's final season. She is free to persue her movie career.
