My bf and I just finished it. We never saw it on TV, so we streamed it via our Roku from Netflix. All 100 episodes over the last two months. A bit exhausting watching it every single night (sometimes several episodes) until we finished.

Seems like it jumped the shark after season 3, but we kept watching anyway just to finish it up.

Anyone want to post about what they thought of the series? I know I'm a bit late in posting about this show, but I'd like to see what others thought.

By the end, Liz is really the only one I ended up really liking. The rest were really pretty fucked up. In a way though, I like that it didn't end all wrapped up in a pretty bow. Too many shows end with everyone changing and becoming better, finding redemption, etc.

by Anonymousreply 8411/17/2016

I only watched every ep until the Carver story but after that, it became pretty ridiculous right away. However, the first two seasons were sensational and very 'different' when the show first aired.

by Anonymousreply 111/27/2010

I agree with R2 regarding when the series started its slide. The first two seasons are terrific, with the third one tolerable and everything after that paled in comparison. The only highlight of the later seasons was Sharon Gless and her psycho character, particularly the death by teddy bear machine scene.

by Anonymousreply 211/27/2010

Yeah, I stayed to the bitter, bitter end. I did love the first three seasons (I could sort of laugh at the Carver resolution).

Lots of the music choices were excellent. Though the music for surgery sequences underwhelmed me throughout.

Stand out moments: Ava's BIG secret. Season 2 finale WOW Siamese twins and Christian and Sean looking like the Dead Ringers twins The brilliant piss-take of Grey's Anatomy Hearts n Scalpels co-starring Nurse Linda who is an exec producer on both NipTuck and Grey's Sharon Gless in the apartment with a teddy bear maker! Matt the mime! Matt the crime mime!

Later, I used to wonder if Ryan Murphy and his fellow writers had a running bet about who could come up with the most absurd storyline/implausible situation/inconsistent character development and there was a prize at the end of the season.

I thought the last season was all over the place and there was a total dismantling of the Christian Troy character. We'd come to love him as the ultimate damaged antihero. I didn't realise I had so much to say...

by Anonymousreply 311/27/2010

The series started to become absolutely unwatchable when the Christian breast cancer arc started. %0D %0D The show ending "season" with Matt as the Mime Robber was so over the top it almost became fun again. I have to admit I was sad that the partners went their seperate ways.%0D %0D The heart of the show was always the 3 way relationship between Sean, Christian and Julia. I think when Joely Richardson was forced to take a leave was when the show started to lose direction.%0D %0D Last observation, and I said it in the threads that were posted on the show at the time, I think the best time to end the series was when it was revealed that they were moving to Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 411/27/2010

Why did Sean's 2nd wife change actresses? Katee Sackhoff was brilliant. Rose McGowan was unwatchable.

Christian Troy with Wilbur is almost as bad as seeing Dexter with a wife and family. Barf.

Agree with everything upthread

by Anonymousreply 511/27/2010

op, I don't believe a word of your post

by Anonymousreply 611/27/2010

Actually, I loved the whole show, start to finish.%0D %0D I'm not one for perfection...and this show always had its problems, but was completely worthwhile, and ended just in time.

by Anonymousreply 711/27/2010

The first two to three seasons were great or very good. It really went off the rails once the practice moved to LA but the last season, particularly as it progressed, went back on track and was well worth sticking with it to the bitter end.

by Anonymousreply 811/27/2010

I, too, watched to the bitter end, even as the plot elements became borderline farce. I liked seasons 2 & 3 the most (the Carver rapes Christian! Ava AND her hot son are after Matt!), and wish he'd been reintroduced at some point. Agreed with others about standout moments: Ava's big secret (did not even REMOTELY see that coming!), Sharon's death-by-teddy-bear-stuffer scene and all of the Rosie O eps (I really would've watched the "Dawn Budge" spinoff that was in discussion at one point!). Worst, least believable moments include Julia suddenly going dyke, Matt with the stupid mime shit, and Matt/Kimber as meth heads.

by Anonymousreply 911/27/2010

R7, I agree with what you said about Wilbur. Luckily they kept his involvement somewhat minimal throughout the seasons. The look on Christian's face when he delivered Wilbur and saw it wasn't his child was priceless.

by Anonymousreply 1011/27/2010

Thanks for this thread, OP. I'm hoping it will go on. I own the first season on DVD and have been planning to watch it forever.

by Anonymousreply 1111/27/2010

R6 - WTF? It's not like it's an EST post.

by Anonymousreply 1211/27/2010

Did anyone else notice how the colors orange and green were featured so prominently?

R11, watch for it. Usually the orange is related to Christian and the green, to Sean.

I found it fascinating. Unless, of course, it was just something I was fixating on.

Sharon Gless was fantastic - what a great part for her. The stuffed agent with the button eyes still gives me nightmares.

Regardless of how crazy the plot lines got, they were all great actors. The cast was amazing.

I think in the end, Christian was still as fucked up as ever R3. Textbook narcissist if there ever was one.

by Anonymousreply 1311/27/2010

Absolutely the worst written show in the last twenty years and the most guilty pleasure. So over the top but fun. Christian and Shawn were always five minutes away from fucking each other.

by Anonymousreply 1411/27/2010

Julian McMahon was sort of playing himself. His ex wife Danni Minogue said that Julian's mom (Lady Sonia) had him by the balls. His dad was arguably Australia's worst ever Prime Minister.

by Anonymousreply 1511/27/2010

R15, Julian's mom had him by the balls? How does that relate to the Christian character and Christian playing himself? Just curious as it seemed no one had Dr Troy by the balls.

by Anonymousreply 1611/27/2010

by Anonymousreply 1711/27/2010

Can anyone sum up how the series wraps?

by Anonymousreply 1811/27/2010

R18, they all end up wretched, flawed, disturbing individuals - for many reasons. Liz is the only one who ends up looking like a decent person throughout the whole show, up until the end. What Matt did in the last episode was ridiculous, but it was in keeping with his character, so in that way, it made sense.

Sean is a pussy who just keeps trying to be like Christian and fails miserably.

I enjoyed it, but the last season was painful to watch. I just wanted to see how it ended. I did like the flashbacks of Sean and Matt in college though.

by Anonymousreply 1911/27/2010

And Matt sounds exactly like Leonardo DiCaprio, while Christian Troy talks like Owen Wilson.

by Anonymousreply 2011/27/2010

R5 - Katee Sackhoff was treated for thyroid cancer and was not prepared to return to the show in time.

by Anonymousreply 2111/27/2010

I thought it was hilarious that Christian fucked the sex-a-holic bitch (now on Murphy's new show glee as Will's ex wife) over the edge of a building and falls to her death.

Matt and his tranny friend being abducted by Matt's girlfriend and her bigot dad. The whole thing ended with the tranny getting her dick cut off and then still have the power to kill the dad.

Or that storyline of the poor mental guy who believed that he could only be perfect when he gets rid of his leg.

I think the hottest storyline was in the later seasons where Christian tries to "save" a young guy from an older sugar daddy (played by Richard Chamberlain).

by Anonymousreply 2211/27/2010

Matt really never learned how to make good choices when it came to women, did he? Are people really and truly as fucked up as the characters on this show?

by Anonymousreply 2311/27/2010

Couldn't stand the Eden character played by AnnaLynne McCord. I wanted to smash her face every time I saw her. What ever happened to that character? I don't remember. I adored Portia de Rossi though. She looked breathtaking.

by Anonymousreply 2411/28/2010

I always thought that at some point the two Drs. would have a homosexual affair

by Anonymousreply 2511/28/2010

Julian McMahon in his little briefs were the highlight for me. Worth buying it for that alone.

by Anonymousreply 2611/28/2010

Didn't Eden threw her dead mother's ashes in Julia's face and that was the last time (she never was charged for shooting Julia, right?) she was on the show?

by Anonymousreply 2711/28/2010

R27, yes. And another plot hole. Did Julia ever get her memory back and remember Eden is the one who shot her? There were a lot of fucked up characters on that show, but I think out of all of them Eden was the worst.

by Anonymousreply 2811/28/2010

What about Matt fucking his hillbilly sister?!

by Anonymousreply 2911/28/2010

yeah, WTF was that about R29? And did Christian just dismiss her? He takes care of Wilbur, who's not even his, but doesn't give a shit about his real daughter? Guess that's another sign of his misogyny.

There were so many story lines they could have tied up/explored, but instead just kept on adding more crazy.

by Anonymousreply 3011/28/2010

Liz losing a kidney, she didn't exactly have good taste in women either. Loved Liz, but didn't believe for a second that she couldn't find a woman, she was cute, a doctor, wasn't a psycho, she would of had women all over her. I know I would have been.

by Anonymousreply 3111/28/2010

Just remembered another story that was a bit homophobic, the "father" "son" sex act. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 3211/28/2010

R32, how was that homophobic? I didn't think it was homophobic, it was just disturbing. And the guy was his adopted father not his bio dad. Still creepy though.

by Anonymousreply 3311/28/2010

Because it made gay men out to be creepy and exploitative. The whole point was that they were trying to look like father and son.

by Anonymousreply 3411/28/2010

R34. No, it didn't. It made the father look like an asshole for exploiting his adopted son.

Anyone with a brain didn't see that and assume all gay men are creepy and exploitative. Sheesh.

by Anonymousreply 3511/28/2010

by Anonymousreply 3611/28/2010

[quote]I thought it was hilarious that Christian fucked the sex-a-holic bitch (now on Murphy's new show glee as Will's ex wife) over the edge of a building and falls to her death.

That's ME, asshole. I'm still around in spirit and will haunt Christian 'till the end of his days.

by Anonymousreply 3711/29/2010

[quote]Liz losing a kidney, she didn't exactly have good taste in women either.

Um, let's not forget possibly the most ridiculous plot twist in "Nip/Tuck" history, lesbo Liz finding herself in love with a MAN.

by Anonymousreply 3811/29/2010

R38 -

I guess that was all part of Christian's character though. I have met guys like that. It's frightening how they can charm, manipulate and make anyone fall in love with them. Sadly, they're the same ones who end up with stalkers who "can't live without them". They really get their hooks into people. Watching it play out in real life is fascinatingly disturbing.

by Anonymousreply 3911/29/2010

No mention of the kid doing a home made circumcision because his first girlfriend wouldn't touch him?

by Anonymousreply 4011/29/2010

I didn't realize it ended, I though the final episodes were yet to be aired.

I watched until the 4/5 seasons, but by that point the show was ridiculously awful. First two seasons were really good though.

by Anonymousreply 4111/29/2010

Nip/Tuck was a series that had some fantastic individual episodes. And lots of episodes that put me to sleep. Never really seemed to have a coherent vision for the season as a whole.

Still, I stuck with it the entire time they were in Miami -- the good episodes made the boring ones worth sitting through. And besides, there was little else to watch in the summer, so I kept watching.

But when the new episodes began running in the fall, I had a hard time keeping up with them -- so many other shows competing for my attention. I ultimately bailed when they moved to LA.

by Anonymousreply 4211/29/2010

"Loved Liz, but didn't believe for a second that she couldn't find a woman, she was cute, a doctor, wasn't a psycho, she would of had women all over her. I know I would have been."%0D %0D You must like 'em fugly, then. Because Liz was coyote ugly. It was even commented upon during the series, from her own MOTHER. When her mother finds out she plans to marry Christian she questions Christian as to what his real motive is for marrying her daughter. She commented that it sure wasn't because of her looks. And that Christian marrying Liz plotline was stupid beyond belief; he asks her to marry hin because he needs a nurse to wipe his ass after he's incapacitated by cancer. He's a doctor; can't he afford to HIRE a nurse? And surely he could have hired a beautiful nurse...or MARRIED a beautiful nurse. His marrying Liz was insanity but the show was sheer insanity most of the time.%0D %0D I always thought Liz's face looked DIRTY for reason. Maybe because she appeared to have dark facial hair covering her entire face, making it look dark and fuzzy. %0D %0D As for her being a "good" person; didn't she try to soak Christian by suing him after he dumped her once he found out he wasn't dying? Isn't that what happened? I watched the first two seasons, but only watched very sporadically after that. The show just got too sickening and implausible for me.

by Anonymousreply 4311/29/2010

Mario Lopez's ass was without a doubt the finest four seconds of television ever produced.

by Anonymousreply 4411/29/2010

R43, Liz did start to sue Christian, then changed her mind and forgave him. She was just angry, but because she was a GOOD person, she let it go. And in the end, it looks as though she was rewarded for it.

BTW, I had a friend the other day who had no idea that anesthesiologists were actually MD's. He thought it was just a 2 year degree or something. Sheesh.

by Anonymousreply 4511/29/2010

by Anonymousreply 4611/30/2010

I'm rewatching the whole series again. Such awesome sleaze. I'm bumping this thread for behind-the-scenes dirt. Does anyone have any?

by Anonymousreply 4704/07/2013

Like Weeds and Heroes. The first two seasons were brilliant but could barely make it half way through the third.

by Anonymousreply 4804/07/2013

Sean and Christian should get married...

by Anonymousreply 4904/07/2013

I'm nearing the end of the series. Matt just had his apartment meth lab blow up. I keep saying "this is the worst show ever" while laughing out loud in enjoyment. Eden is great - she reminds me of what Nomi Malone would be with rich parents. The actress looks like her.

by Anonymousreply 5004/10/2013

I'm watching the infamous Carver season. It's pretty bad, but not for the reasons people usually state. The characters just became unlikeable...Christian fucking that girl with the bag over her head, Sean getting ready to throw away his entire family to run off with Anne Heche and her son. It was pretty vulgar.

Also, if they gave Razzies for TV shows, Anne Heche would DEFINITELY win for her role in this as a Mafia princess.

by Anonymousreply 5104/13/2013

What did you think of the arc with Brooke Shields?

by Anonymousreply 5204/13/2013

It was pretty interesting, R52. I like Brooke Shields a lot, but they could have done more with her. The organ stealing storyline that was a bit of a drag. It went on a bit too long, and they spent a little too much time on it. It also weirdly annoyed me that Jacqueline Bissett played a woman named James. I think of the fourth season mostly as a transitional one before it became the crazy camp soap opera it was in seasons five and six which, honestly, was the best decision they made in years. The show was getting old and they needed something to liven it up. And people hadn't taken it seriously in years anyway, especially since the Carver arc.

by Anonymousreply 5304/13/2013

It was over the top sleaze most of the time. I watched it for a while but had to stop. I mean how can long can you keep watching a show where ALL the characters are dislikeable and annoying and pathetic? Here are things I remember about this show:

The miracles of plastic surgery. Was there no injury or deformity that could NOT be completely repaired by a few nips and tucks? I remember a girl attacked by the Carver; her face, which had been brutally slashed, was fixed so expertly it didn't even have any scars. Kimber was kidnapped and ALL her plastic surgeries (weren't there a couple of dozen?) were undone; breast implants ripped out, etc. Of course she survives the mutilation and is once again restored to her perfect blonde beauty. Of course all this is utter nonsense, but I think a lot of fans of this show probably thought: wow! plastic surgery can fix ANYTHING!

The constant sleazy sex scenes; sex with a transvestite, sex with a tran-sexual, sex between a mother and son, lesbian sex, sex with a porn star, threesomes, sex with your best friend's porn star girlfriend, and so on. Did they ever get around to bestiality? I would be surprised if they didn't.

Did McNamara and Troy ever actually CHARGE anyone for doing surgery? They do Kimber's numerous surgeries for free. As a bribe to keep Matt out of trouble they give free surgery to a school administrator. They do free surgery on a Down Syndrome boy to make him look "normal." What a pair of nutjob surgeons.

by Anonymousreply 5404/13/2013

They definitely got around to bestiality, R54. Remember the episode where Melissa Gilbert slathered peanut butter all over her tits so that her dog would lick it off?

by Anonymousreply 5504/13/2013

My favorite cliche of the series was that almost every episode, a major surgery would have to be interrupted when Nurse Linda would walk into the surgical suite and tell one of the doctor's that someone was waiting for them in the lobby. And of course the surgery would be postponed so they could deal with unimportant exposition.

by Anonymousreply 5604/13/2013

{quote]Of course all this is utter nonsense, but I think a lot of fans of this show probably thought: wow! plastic surgery can fix ANYTHING!

You should give viewers and fans of that show more credit. As you pointed out most of the main characters and most of the guest characters were not only unlikeable, but their lives got worse throughout the time on the show.

I thought the show really made a great job at making the point that plastic surgery does NOT fix everything and isn't the answer to most people's problems.

by Anonymousreply 5704/13/2013

With all the talk of Mario Lopez's butt, I still find that it pales in comparison to his SBTB co-star Mark Paul Gosselaar's rump. Too bad HE never guess-starred on N/T.

by Anonymousreply 5804/13/2013

The final of season 2 was the highpoint of the show's run. Of special note were the episodes titled Oona Wentworth Joan Rivers those were the episodes were Alec Baldwin guest stared which were really well done. I liked Joan Rivers's scenes as well.

For me the worst/scariest episode was the Boblic face transplant episode where McNamara was held captive in the basement of a nail parlor set up as a lipo surgery on the cheap. That was too gruesome to watch.

I also loved the out of control madness of the Escobar Gallardo episode and the lipo operation that goes wrong with blood flying everywhere. That was tv unhinged at its best.

by Anonymousreply 5904/13/2013

He guest starred on Weeds, R58. And he showed off his ass in a really hot sex scene with Mary-Louise Parker.

by Anonymousreply 6004/13/2013

I always thought that the Escobar Gallardo episodes were the weakest of the series. His character was never as interesting or poignant as the writers seemed to think he was. And they kept bringing him back, season after season.

by Anonymousreply 6104/13/2013

One of my favorite patient characters was the old lady from the early seasons who was addicted to plastic surgery and once was even tackled.

IMHO the show had the best opening credits theme song.

by Anonymousreply 6204/13/2013

I know, R60. My jaw dropped when I watched that incredibly hot scene.

by Anonymousreply 6304/13/2013

I think the show did manage to show most sexual fetishes. Remember the couch-fucker?

by Anonymousreply 6404/13/2013

"I thought the show really made a great job at making the point that plastic surgery does NOT fix everything and isn't the answer to most people's problems"

It made it seem as though anything PHYSICAL could be fixed through plastic surgery. A person whose face has been cut is going to have scars; maybe bad scars, maybe not so noticeable scars, but they WILL have scars. On Nip/Tip a female victim of the Carver has NO scarring at all, at least none that is visible at all. And that is pure bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 6504/16/2013

Watching season 4 now.

by Anonymousreply 6608/01/2014

the last season was unwatchable it was over the top and ridiculous from the start but that was the fun of it

by Anonymousreply 6708/01/2014

I just finished watching the whole series (again) the other night. I love this show even though it can be over the top, to put it mildly. I actually like the later seasons better now that a few years have passed between viewings.

by Anonymousreply 6808/01/2014

Liz getting her kidney harvested was over the top.

by Anonymousreply 6908/01/2014

Does anyone know if there is a complete list of the various songs used in every episode of the series? I remember there used to be a site that kept an up-to-date list for the first few years but that is long gone now and I would love a list like that.

Unfortunately, they didn't even show the song credits at the end of the episodes and the DVD set doesn't have the information either so it's very difficult to decipher what was used when. IMDB doesn't seem to be any help either.

by Anonymousreply 7008/01/2014

I watched and (largely) enjoyed the show until its very end, as flawed as it was. The weakest season for me was the one when the show ound itself teansplanted to LA. The whole storyline with Portia de Rossi and her evil daughter was rather pointless. The second part of the last season was very dark and rewarded the patience of those of us who stuck with it through the lackluster LA years. The art direction and the choice of music were consistently great throughout the entire run of the show.

by Anonymousreply 7108/01/2014

The music was phenomenal and the use of obscure and popular songs MADE some of the episodes.

by Anonymousreply 7208/01/2014

It kept getting more and more ludicrous over time. The plots kept getting more and more stupid and absurd, until finally I just quit watching. I think that was around the third season.

I didn't watch the finale. Did they all end up living happily ever after? That's usually how finales go; everything is wrapped up in a neat, pretty package and all's well that ends well.

by Anonymousreply 7308/01/2014

Julian McMahon, Rhona Mitra, and Kelly Carlson ooze sex.

by Anonymousreply 7411/08/2014

I loved the first 2 seasons. I actually hated the third season because The Carver resolution made absolutely no sense.

It became a chore to watch after that. Individual moments are pretty fascinating but I admit to being picky about continuity and this show was terrible with that. And full of plot holes.

I did like Julia killing her burned up mom and then coming home to her mom alive.

by Anonymousreply 7511/08/2014

NIP/TUCK is the only show to have jump the shark IN the 1st episode. Yep that's right. Absurd, melodramatic, continuity errors line it's no ones business. Entertaining as fuck though.

by Anonymousreply 7611/08/2014

What is the show about, besides plastic surgery, which doesn't intrigue me much. Vain people with money to throw away on minor improvements in their appearance. So why did people watch, what was the hook?

by Anonymousreply 7711/08/2014

R77 - it's a lot more than just plastic surgery.

by Anonymousreply 7811/08/2014

I was probably the only person who didn't want the carver reveal episode to end, but I liked that whole season. After that, it went downhill REAL fast starting with that kidney shit.

Ryan Murphy shows usually have a three season expiration date.

by Anonymousreply 7911/08/2014

Just saw the pilot. I guess I liked it, but that whiny son who is traumatized by being uncut, is going to get on my nerves. Really the people aren't that likable, moneyed white people don't tent to be overly sympathetic. But Julie and Liz seem like fun characters. I dread the boring episodes though, someone upthread mentioned, even in the first 3 seasons. Oh well, onto ep 2.

by Anonymousreply 8011/08/2014

Please tell me the son dies on the operating table getting his foreskin removed, and it happens in one of the early episodes.

by Anonymousreply 8111/08/2014

Matt only gets worse.

by Anonymousreply 8211/08/2014

Didn't Daphne Zuniga shit in the hot tub one time?

by Anonymousreply 8311/08/2014

This came up in a discussion with a friend today... definitely one of the best binge-watches available. So many memorable moments.

I'd be curious to see what Ryan Murphy would do with a reboot, especially the bandied-about idea of a female doctor version set in the present day.

Also, has anyone seen the Spanish-language remake? I'd be fascinated to see what they did with it and if the scripts are the same.
