New York Gay Men and Kissing Hello

Is this the preferred way to greet each other? I can't be the only one who has noticed this.

by Anonymousreply 3610/12/2012

Where I live, almost everyone gives a peck on at least one cheek as a greeting.... sometimes the other cheek as well. No, I'm not in Europe.

by Anonymousreply 110/27/2010

I prefer to present my hole

by Anonymousreply 210/27/2010

NY? Try most cities with a large gay population.

by Anonymousreply 310/27/2010

I myslef prefer the masculine greeting of a firm handshake

by Anonymousreply 410/27/2010

Same in L.A. Lots of kissing hello.

by Anonymousreply 510/27/2010

Cannot stand the contrived, pretentious facial cheek kissing which New Yorkers do!%0D %0D It is nauseating.

by Anonymousreply 610/27/2010

A single cheek kiss is acceptable. A double cheek kiss is bordering on nauseous territory. Air kisses of any kind is downright vomit inducing.

We're men, not Park Avenue ladies-who-lunch.

by Anonymousreply 710/27/2010

Oh, gawd, if only it was a cheek kiss! Half of the gays I encounter try to greet with a lip kiss.

by Anonymousreply 810/27/2010

3 kisses

1) left cheek 2) right cheek 3) air kiss (for the camera)

by Anonymousreply 910/27/2010

OP where are you from and where have you never traveled to?

by Anonymousreply 1110/27/2010

r9 that's funny.

by Anonymousreply 1210/27/2010

Oh god forbid two men should kiss each other! Self-loathing much, homos?

by Anonymousreply 1310/28/2010

Are you fresh off the bus, OP? Gay men do this pretty much everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 1410/28/2010

I will hug a friend when I meet them but damned if I'm going to kiss them on the cheeks. I'm not French and I don't have a vagina.

by Anonymousreply 1610/28/2010

Hello? I not gay. I kiss my man friends hello and bye. I hold hand when walk somewhere. What is problem?%0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 1710/28/2010

It isn't official until New Yorkers do it!

by Anonymousreply 1810/28/2010

I agree with r18.

by Anonymousreply 1910/28/2010

Well, I think that's a bit twee.

by Anonymousreply 2010/28/2010

Gay friends don't kiss at the Schuylkill Mall in Pennsylvania. They say hello.

by Anonymousreply 2110/28/2010

I lived in SoCal and every gay is a kiss hello. Moved to Las Vegas and it is hesitant, mixed. Weird.

by Anonymousreply 2210/28/2010

Is it just the effeminates who do this, or do regular guys do it too?

by Anonymousreply 2310/28/2010

I bet you're the life of every party.

by Anonymousreply 2410/28/2010

While the "kiss hello" is weird, I also hate the "hug hello" because it's nothing but awkwardness.

by Anonymousreply 2510/28/2010

I fart when I see my gays!

by Anonymousreply 2610/28/2010

I tend to do whatever the fuck I feel like doing with a particular friend on a particular day in a particular setting.

by Anonymousreply 2710/28/2010

I love the kiss hello. Oh, well.

by Anonymousreply 2810/28/2010

Most women in NYC cheek kiss hello - on both cheeks.%0D %0D Cannot stand it!%0D %0D and it is really air kissing each cheek

by Anonymousreply 2910/28/2010

I just moved to NYC from Boston, and this cheek kissing is really out of hand here. I think the CDC needs to come in and quarantine the area. Everytime I see this it says fake, shallow, please help my feeble mind expand beyond pretentiousness greeting nuances.

by Anonymousreply 3010/12/2012

I hate the kiss hello/hug hello. I've had to tell people to stop greeting me that way. Luckily all my close friends are masculine enough to not pull this crap.

by Anonymousreply 3110/12/2012

I slap their faces as a greeting

by Anonymousreply 3210/12/2012

I hate this. And it's not New York Gays, it's white New York Gays. No black or latino gays I know do this. And they kiss on the lips.

I don't know where these whores' mouths have been, so I always turn my cheek.

I don't know when this started, but it needs to end.

by Anonymousreply 3310/12/2012

Manhattan men might kiss hello, but you won't see it happen in the South Bronx, Brownsville in Brooklyn or Jamaica, Queens. In those neighborhoods the reaction would be ridicule or worse.

by Anonymousreply 3410/12/2012

In my town, gay men fist each other hello.

by Anonymousreply 3510/12/2012

When this one known whore I'm acquainted with saw me in Gym bar last weekend, he rushed over and kissed me on the lips. He has a rep as a total whore, so I don't know where that mouth has been. Ick-a-doodles! I would expect something like that in a place like Splash, but not in a place like Gym bar that attracts rugged, masculine guys. The reason I go to Gym bar over others is because it's really one of the few places in the city where masculine gay jocks/sports fans like me can generally avoid that type of phony affection.
