Elisabeth Hasselbeck''s lesbian theory: Older women just couldn''t get a man

Elisabeth Hasselbeck thinks a lot of older lesbians would have turned out straight ... if they could only land a man.%0D %0D The co-host of "The View" said older women who have led heterosexual lives are choosing same-sex partners because men their age are chasing younger women.%0D %0D "All the older men are going for younger women, leaving the women with no one," Hasselbeck said on Tuesday.%0D %0D Joy Behar, a co-host of the show, immediately blasted the 33-year-old, calling her late-blooming lesbian claim "ridiculous."%0D %0D "Being gay is not just holding hands and walking through the tulips," Behar said. "I don't think that you suddenly wake up and say, 'You know, I think I want to do that.' You wanted to do it; you were just trapped in a system that said 'get married.' "%0D %0D Hasselbeck then said that women might turn to homosexuality later in life not for sex, but companionship.%0D %0D The conservative Hasselbeck has been known to spar with her more liberal co-hosts and is no stranger to controversial statements. She once argued that the morning-after pill should be banned even in cases of rape and incest, and she criticized ESPN's Erin Andrews for being the victim of a stalking because she was "wearing next to nothing."

by Anonymousreply 9102/18/2013

Elizabeth needs to keep her mouth shut.

by Anonymousreply 107/29/2010

Was she SERIOUS? Or was this a LAME attempt at humor? I did not see the show.

by Anonymousreply 207/29/2010

You'll pardon my French, but she is a stupid cunt....

by Anonymousreply 307/29/2010

It's a typical manifestation of the Christians%0D who believe that homosexuality is a choice. As for women turning to other women for companionship later in life, there is a word for that - friend.

by Anonymousreply 407/29/2010

This has always amused me about the 'phobes and gives credence to the fact that most 'phobes are closet-cases. What 100% straight woman would say "yeah, I couldn't get a man so I'm gonna suck some vulva from now on"?

by Anonymousreply 507/29/2010

It's getting some press.

by Anonymousreply 607/29/2010

Im no fan of Hasselbeck, but Ive read some similar comments here.

by Anonymousreply 707/29/2010

This is the 3rd thread on this stupid shit.

by Anonymousreply 807/29/2010

How can such an across the board ootragiously ignorant idiot like EH be allowed daily access to an audience? I can understand having a Republican or two on the panel but she is such an extremist she makes my Republican friends shudder. I know that controversy brings ratings but her exposure is dangerous to weak minded people.

by Anonymousreply 907/29/2010

[quote]ootragiously Canadian?

by Anonymousreply 1007/29/2010

When are TPTB from the View going to get rid of her?

by Anonymousreply 1107/29/2010

"All the older men are going for younger women"%0D %0D %0D %0D %0D Does she really believe this? The only old guys getting much younger women are the rich ones...trust me, the average old guy in America isn't dating 20-year-olds, although that's what the media wants you to believe.

by Anonymousreply 1207/29/2010

I guess that means then, according to Hasselbeck logic that all the poor old guys go gay!

by Anonymousreply 1307/29/2010

So true R12, and the media overplay the supposed plight of older women. There are plenty of over 35-year old women out there dating and guess what? A lot of men (in same age range) are looking for a peer, a real companion, not just a 20-year old f*ck bunny.

by Anonymousreply 1407/29/2010

I'm over 35 and regularly date men my age (and gasp who are over 40).

Imagine that. SHOCKING.

by Anonymousreply 1507/29/2010

[quote]"Being gay is not just holding hands and walking through the tulips," Behar said.

What a great sarcastic quip. Hasselbeck is such a waste of space.

by Anonymousreply 1607/29/2010

I'm with you r7. How is what she's saying any different than a lot of what is written on this very board? It's pretty standard on Datalounge that sexuality is fluid.

by Anonymousreply 1707/29/2010

I hate Hasselback with a passion but I do understand her role on the show. I think The View would be boring if everyone agreed in unison. You need that foil and Elisabitch plays it to the hilt. I also think it's pretty sly that they cast such an idiot to be the GOP talking point parrot because she doesn't do the GOP any favors when she opens her mouth. She looked like a petulant child against President Obama today. She is out of her league and I think the producers know this and laugh over it.

by Anonymousreply 1807/29/2010

R12 and R14, no one is saying men want women in their 20's. What does frequently occur is that men in their 50's want women aged 32 to 45, and men in their 60's want women ages 40 to 55.%0D %0D And men in their 40's want women ages 28 to 38.%0D %0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 1907/29/2010

Her theory is stupid. But, let's pretend it's true. That explains why single women hook up when they get older. What's the explanation for married women who leave their marital companionship for a woman?

Why aren't these women going after much younger men and taking on the cougar moniker?

by Anonymousreply 2107/29/2010

It's a rare woman who can be a cougar - to be a cougar one must looks vastly younger than one's age, be very good looking, thin, young looking, or have money along with youthful looks.

by Anonymousreply 2207/29/2010

Hasselbeck's long overdue for a vicious face-slapping.

by Anonymousreply 2307/29/2010

If men viewed women as human beings instead of as objects, they wouldn't have any problem dating women their own age. Yes, I know this thread isn't really about that.

by Anonymousreply 2407/29/2010

And Elisabeth would've turned out smart if she only had a brain.

by Anonymousreply 2507/29/2010

Didn't Liza Minnelli turn gay because she couldn't get a man?

by Anonymousreply 2607/29/2010

It seems many younger men are going for older women these days. Less drama, more experience. Plus, it is still easier to find an appealing man than have a first time lesbian experience when you are forty plus.

by Anonymousreply 2707/29/2010

Younger men going for older women is NOT that prevalent at all.%0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 2807/30/2010

Are you a straight, older women, r28? I am, and I am frequently asked out by men 10-15 years younger. While I am flattered, I still prefer people my own age and realize I don't have much in common (flattery aside) with the younger men.

by Anonymousreply 2907/30/2010

Just because you are asked out by younger men, R29, you assume you can extrapolate that to all the millions of women in the U.S.?%0D %0D You are not using common sense nor scientific methods of measurement nor statistics.

by Anonymousreply 3007/30/2010

Joy Behar had a really old cougar on tonight. She looked her age and bragged about bagging 35 year olds.

by Anonymousreply 3107/30/2010

The woman on Joy Behar was 74 and she said she did have sex with one 35 yr old - he was her youngest. Maybe he was an ugly geek who could not get anyone else.

by Anonymousreply 3207/30/2010

Me too, r29. I'm a (bisexual) female who is consistently asked out by men 10-15 years younger. It's flattering, but I feel it only happens because I look younger than my age.

by Anonymousreply 3307/30/2010

Of course older women get asked out all the time! It's like throwing crumbs to the starving. They'll take anything.

by Anonymousreply 3407/30/2010

Is Hasselbeck really as clueless and narrow-minded as she seems on The View, or is she carefully scripted like a reality show "star"? %0D %0D Interestingly, my sister went to school (at Boston College) with her and knew her in brief passing (Elisabeth lived in the same dorm as my sister's boyfriend). Supposedly Elisabeth was a complete "hippie chick" at the time...a flowers-braided-in-her-hair free spirit stereotype in a rich girl package, always spouting off about peace and love and making her own clothes out of hemp or something. My sister said she also was in tight with all the "jocks" and that tons of guys had crushes on her and she was well aware of it. (Sadly, that's all I know...no scandalous dirt)%0D %0D As for this "theory" of hers....that's just too stupid to be real. Isn't it? Personally, I don't know anyone who would decide to "go gay" (or go straight) late in life simply because they couldn't land a partner and were that desperate. %0D %0D Wouldn't anyone with a shred of dignity prefer to dial up escorts or dig into their sex toy and porn collection before halfheartedly attempting to reverse their sexual preference? I thought everyone with a semblance of education realized sexual orientation is something you're born with, not a choice or a light switch to be turned off and on at will. Maybe I'm overestimating Boston College's academic credentials, if Lizzie truly stands by this asinine claim.

by Anonymousreply 3507/30/2010

I'm older, can't get a man guess I should become a lesbian, too.

by Anonymousreply 3607/30/2010

"How can such an across the board ootragiously ignorant idiot like EH be allowed daily access to an audience?"

Beats me

by Anonymousreply 3707/30/2010

Yes, Anderson Cooper said tonight that Snooki is 4'9" (instead of 4'11")

by Anonymousreply 3807/30/2010

Elizabeth's husband is not good looking - very average looking and very much balding - Elizabeth is much better looking than he is.

by Anonymousreply 3907/30/2010

I hope all of her children are gay.

by Anonymousreply 4007/30/2010

well, i guess as an older gay man, i should switch to women, since all the younger gays guys want to be together.

by Anonymousreply 4107/30/2010

I loathe Barbara Walters specifically for her role in giving this cunt a platform. And I hate Survivor for the show's role, too.

by Anonymousreply 4207/30/2010

So EH is gonna go lez when her husband dumps her for a younger woman? Eww, the horror! (Maybe that's her mid-life crisis backup plan)

by Anonymousreply 4307/30/2010

Isn't it odd how easily she sets aside the issue of sex? I've always thought that a good percentage of homophobes were people who didn't enjoy or appreciate sex. Our reasons for coming out, i.e. our demand for satisfying sex and love, doesn't seem valid when you have a joyless, flat sex life and a marriage that's as utilitarian as a house or a car.

by Anonymousreply 4407/30/2010

R30, I'm a woman well into her 40s and get asked out frequently by much younger men (10 years plus). I found it baffling and even asked one of these younger guys if he was aware how old I was.

Honestly, unless it has to do with procreation/starting a family, I don't think men really care all that much how old a woman is as long as she's hot.

by Anonymousreply 4507/30/2010

My Elisabeth Hasselbeck theory: she's stupid.

by Anonymousreply 4607/30/2010

Was this the same show where Elizabitch, and the other airhead Sherri, said that men know women's bodis better than women do?

Joy and Whoopi had to correct them about that too. They made a point that being the same sex as our partner does allow us to know more about our lovers bodies. Well, duh.

Exactly how dumb are Elizabitch and Sherri?! Then Sherri blurted out something dumb about preferring men's funky hairy bodies or something. These two are clueless!

by Anonymousreply 4707/30/2010

The point of mentioning I'm older and frequently get asked out by much younger men isn't the issue. It is EH's theory which is flawed. Women can always get men because they have a vagina. Unless you are seriously gross, there will certainly be a man who wants to "hit that" regardless of your age.

In fact, I get asked out more now than when I was young. Must be all the flood of divorced men whose wives dumped 'em to go gay. Ha!

by Anonymousreply 4807/30/2010

Who would have thought Star Jones would have been missed on The View?

by Anonymousreply 4907/30/2010

Yall bitches buy my new book!

by Anonymousreply 5007/30/2010

"And men in their 40's want women ages 28 to 38."%0D %0D %0D %0D %0D But most 28 year old women settle down with guys their own age, or just a few years older. 20 something females usually aren't interested in middle aged guys unless they are really rich. What you want isn't always what you get. %0D %0D %0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 5107/30/2010

What you want is not always what you get, r51. Much of life is what you settle for, period.

by Anonymousreply 5207/31/2010

[quote]Didn't Liza Minnelli turn gay because she couldn't get a man? You have that backwards. That's why that gay guy married her because he couldn't get a man.

by Anonymousreply 5307/31/2010

this was Bill Gedde's theory. He discussed it on a previous show when Merideth Baxter came out.

This just shows how Hasselback is just a parrot for Gedde's ideas.

by Anonymousreply 5407/31/2010

I've not even read the OP's post but in advance: sit DOWN, Hasselbeck.

by Anonymousreply 5507/31/2010

R51, So so true. When I was 28, I would NEVER EVER have thought about dating someone over 35.

by Anonymousreply 5608/03/2010

{quote]Hasselbeck then said that women might turn to homosexuality later in life not for sex, but companionship.

How is that homosexuality?? That's a friend. Was GG a lesbian show?

by Anonymousreply 5708/03/2010

[quote]and she criticized ESPN's Erin Andrews for being the victim of a stalking because she was "wearing next to nothing."

This statement is just as retarded as the Imam in Australia who claimed it was womens own fault that they were raped because of the way they were dressed.

by Anonymousreply 5808/05/2010

Dumb snatch.

by Anonymousreply 5908/05/2010

I wish Joy would slit her throat and plant the knife in barbara's dressing room. I can't stand the bitch.

by Anonymousreply 6008/05/2010

"Older (or any) women turn gay just couldn't get a man" and add "If she weren't a fug she'd get a man" and "No lesbians are pretty."%0D %0D Isn't this the same stupid ignorant-Republican-like shit many gay men at the Datalounge say all the time here? %0D %0D How about those asinine and repetitive "why do lesbians want to be men" bullcrap threads? I think there's two running right now.%0D %0D %0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 6108/05/2010

I just don't understand why SOME lesbians, if they like women, try to look like men.

Quite perplexing, non?

by Anonymousreply 6208/05/2010

[quote]I wish Joy would slit her throat and plant the knife in barbara's dressing room.

Oh, Rosie.

by Anonymousreply 6308/05/2010

Maybe women are bi anyway or a lesbian like me so this how women are

by Anonymousreply 6402/16/2013

The VAST majority of women want a man in their age range. Unless Daddy is filthy rich, ain't gonna happen. Even if Daddy is rich, younger women often end up leaving them after perhaps popping out the obligatory autistic (old man sperm baby) child.

Hasselbeck is such a dumb troll and it irks me to even have to discuss the nonsense she's spouting.

by Anonymousreply 6502/16/2013

Really? Who fucking cares?

by Anonymousreply 6602/16/2013

[quote]Maybe women are bi anyway or a lesbian like me so this how women are

Where do you come up with stupid shit like this?

by Anonymousreply 6702/16/2013

R35 Elizabeth was a different person when she was on Survivor. That was 11 years ago now. Much more like how your sister described her. She was very sweet, quite bright and easy going but she was religious and bonded with another contestant over this. I think being on The View can be blamed for turning her into this hateful person. She's become a mouth piece for every entitled republican voting frau out there. I can't help but hope that he white picket fence gets pissed on.

by Anonymousreply 6802/16/2013

As a foreigner, I am a little confused about EH. Is she considered to be a "typical" Republican? Or is she just a stupid bitch? Between her & Palin and Wayne LaPierre and Mitt Romney etc I don't get a good feeling for your Republicans. Mind you our politicans aren't much good either.

by Anonymousreply 6902/16/2013

She's a genius!

by Anonymousreply 7002/16/2013

She's a little bit of both, R69. Though at this point, we're trying to figure out if she is truly dumb or if this is a scripted act on the part of the producers and she gladly plays the role.

[quote]I can understand having a Republican or two on the panel but she is such an extremist she makes my Republican friends shudder. I know that controversy brings ratings but her exposure is dangerous to weak minded people.

I believe this is precisely the kind of audience the show wants to capture. She presents a very simplistic view of life that relies on outmoded attitudes and mores. Some people find pat explanations, however wildly incorrect, comforting and easy to understand. It fits what they bring to the table. No more need to think it through or challenge oneself -- the hallmark of the weak-minded.

The presentation of conservative women on TV is both really amusing and horrifying . I started a thread about this a few weeks ago. They seem to pick either shrill, angry women (Palin, Malkin, Coulter, Schlussel, Ingraham) to drive their spin or cute to highly attractive women to play the supportive, but unthoughtful bimbo role (Sherri Shepherd, Hasselbeck, Kimberly Guilfoyle and the other Fox bimbettes. ) that usually involves parroting something someone more dominant in the pecking order (i.e. the men) say.

Kimberly Guilfoyle stands out in that list. She's the former San Francisco prosecutor who was married to Gavin Newsom and was known for liberal views. Now she's the big-toothed co-host spewing the Fox Koolaid. Very smart woman who either changed her stripes or knew where and how to cash in.

by Anonymousreply 7102/16/2013

R20, that a straight woman would suddenly start liking pussy to have a movie or dinner companion is ridiculous.

Women can keep each other company without having to go there.

But alas I am sure you talking out your ass just like EH.

by Anonymousreply 7202/16/2013

R62, There are certainly gay men who try to feminize themselves. It may or may not (seriously, it may or may not) have to do with gender dysphoria issues that are not-very-talked-about by gays, in part because of the transsexual stigmata.

And I kind of disagree with Behar, too. I think it's possible for some people to realize that they want to sexually experiment later in life, gay or just curious.

by Anonymousreply 7302/16/2013

If she's talking about olden days and "Boston marriages" or something, sure. There's some since forever who like the companionship of women, but aren't having sex. If there's women like that out there now calling themselves lesbians, I have no idea.

But the vast majority of straight women are not going to suck a clit out of the blue, anymore than a lonely gay man would. It would repel them.

But I don't see any reason to jump on Hasselbeck for her little "older women who come out as lesbians are braiding friendship bracelets" theory. It's foolish but not hateful.

by Anonymousreply 7402/16/2013

She came out in favor of same-sex marriage. But, when she did, it wasn't any big revelation about how she had been wrong all along, she just started supporting it and made it seem like she always had.

by Anonymousreply 7502/16/2013

Wasn't she a contestant on Survivor one year?

by Anonymousreply 7602/16/2013

[quote]Though at this point, we're trying to figure out if she is truly dumb or if this is a scripted act on the part of the producers and she gladly plays the role.

Great post, R71.... she does fill a viewpoint.

That said, I think she means every word of it... or she's not that bright and she's adopted every word of it but then is mystified by all the vitriol she provokes. She's awfully thinned skinned for somebody with opinions so extreme. You'd never see a Bay Buchanan or creature who shall not be named but gets kicked out of 1 out of every 3 universities where she's supposed to shreik, erm, speak.

They go to arms and don't blink. Elizabeth sucks and sulks and weeps too much to have informed courage of her convictions, even if it's misinformed.

by Anonymousreply 7702/16/2013

I am bisexual but as I have have gotten older I find myself less interested in men.

by Anonymousreply 7802/17/2013

[quote] I thought everyone with a semblance of education realized sexual orientation is something you're born with, not a choice or a light switch to be turned off and on at will

Come on. These are republicans we're talking about. When have they ever let truth, facts or science get in their way of hating non-republicans or pushing their views onto everyone else?

by Anonymousreply 7902/17/2013

Why do people watch the show? Behar is usually the only one who makes any sense. Just ignore it, it'll wither and die, as it should.

by Anonymousreply 8002/17/2013

Elisabeth ruins this show (Barbara, too). If it were just Whoopie, Joy and a daily guest co-host, I'd glady watch it. As it stands, it is unwatchable. Can't stand her little fuckin' voice shouting over everyone else trying to get her words in.

by Anonymousreply 8102/17/2013

I saw a Youtube clip where Kathy Griffin was on and the body language on Elizabeth was every kind of negative emotion you could imagine... but more than anything... petulant. Very thin skinned.

by Anonymousreply 8202/17/2013

I hate how Elisabitch got Kathy banned from the show, she has a habit of going off on liberal comics and getting them banned. Sandra Bernhard was another, she had a big hissy fit about a joke Sandra told about Laura Bush. She was so rude and created a huge scene.

by Anonymousreply 8302/17/2013

Picking on the mentally challenged doesn't speak well for us intellectuals on DL. Keep in mind, as a conjerkative, Lizzy is forever beyond the scope of being an intellectual herself. Her mind is forever warped. Any gal who can think of Jesus going through his death throws on a cross while having sex is really fucked up. The fact that the crucifixion never happened is over shadowed by her ability to get down and hunch like a Las Vegas hooker, all in the name of JMJ.

by Anonymousreply 8402/17/2013

Interesting. I'm 48, and I get younger men all the time (I'm getting rid of my (8 years junior) BF that I dated for 8 years) and never wanted to get married. Yet on the Marisa Tomei thread somebody insisted that I was being false and was secretly lesbian because I never married (they were insisting that she was secretly lesbian for the same reasons).

by Anonymousreply 8502/17/2013

This ignorant comment was made over 3 fucking years ago. Stop bumping this shit! Try posting something original.

by Anonymousreply 8602/17/2013

As much as I detest this woman, Rachel Campos Duffy is 100000000000 times worse!

by Anonymousreply 8702/17/2013

Death throws, R84?

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 8802/17/2013

You got me grammar gramps. It should have been spelt, throes.

by Anonymousreply 8902/17/2013

Who is this crazy white bitch?

by Anonymousreply 9002/18/2013

[quote]Any gal who can think of Jesus going through his death throws on a cross while having sex is really fucked up.

She said this?! Was it supposed to sanctify the act or something?
