Why are Americans so fucking fat, and why are straight white guys with huge bellies so proud of them?

All of America is looking so fuckin hoosier lately. Traveling in airports in the summer is like going to a Tulsa Mall at Christmas. Christ, people. Lose some weight!

by Anonymousreply 14903/07/2015

heterosexual, especially male, entitlement.%0D %0D so sick of it. %0D %0D the world is here to clean up their mess

by Anonymousreply 207/19/2010

I was just at Orlando airport picking up a family member and I saw some very goodlooking people.

by Anonymousreply 307/19/2010

You will find these typical Americans at beliefnet.com

by Anonymousreply 407/19/2010

by Anonymousreply 607/19/2010

r4, I happen to find that man to be cute, cuddly, adorable and SEXY!%0D %0D It's too bad you'll not know the joy of throwing your arms a wonderful and warm beach ball belly and sliding your hands all around it.%0D %0D You just don't know what you're missing.

by Anonymousreply 907/19/2010

Hoosiers are from Indiana, not Oklahoma. I have no idea what you'd call someone from Oklahoma. "So fucking Oklahoman", perhaps.

by Anonymousreply 1007/19/2010

I have a question. Why are Americans such a bunch of bigots? You seem to hate everyone. Fat people, black people, people living with HIV/AIDS, independent women, Mexicans, transgendered people...it goes on and on. Do you like anyone at all? Or are you all a pack of bigots who just exist to hate one another because of superficial differences that have nothing to do with character, integrity, personality or behavior.

by Anonymousreply 1107/19/2010

OP, are you by any chance from the St. Louis area?%0D %0D In STL, a hoosier is white trash, and "hoosiery" refers trashy behavior. It seems to be a local phenomena.

by Anonymousreply 1207/19/2010

Straight boys are hot in their teens had early 20s but around the age of 25 most of them start to go to Hell because they're either shacked up with a woman by then and stopped caring or are just plain lazy.

Gay men usually try to preserve their youthful qualities well into their 30s and early 40s.

by Anonymousreply 1307/19/2010

Frankly, I find fat people less disturbing than plastic surgerized people. At least their honest in their appearance. Botox and surgery are lies.

by Anonymousreply 1407/19/2010

Barney Frank is a fatso

by Anonymousreply 1507/19/2010

OP = Our resident, likely British "What's up with Americans who..." Troll.

OP has posted numerous threads like this. He/she is likely Canadian or from the U.K..

Kill it with fire.

by Anonymousreply 1607/19/2010

I see a LOT of overweight people every day. You want to know why? Watch TV or go to the supermarket and read labels! The foods that are promoted to us, advertised, made accessible because they are cheap and convenient, are bad for us. Too much sugar, HFC,additives, preservatives, sodium, MSG, etc. etc. etc. They are over-processed with little nutritional value and loaded with carbs.%0D %0D The majority of Americans wouldn't know good nutrition if it bit them in their ample asses.%0D They'll order a Caesar's and think they did a good thing because they had a salad for lunch!%0D "No red meat" but a HUGE dish of pasta with about a cup of Parmesano Reggiano.%0D %0D I can't watch the food network anymore. The programs featuring The Neeleys, Guy Fieri, Paula Deen, Ina Garten, make me nauseous!

by Anonymousreply 1707/19/2010

Op, why don't you and your sanctimonious ass just SHUT THE FUCK UP.%0D %0D Nobody gives a shit about your opinion.%0D %0D If you don't like to look at fat people, then jump off the fucking Empire State Building. Problem solved.%0D %0D And then the rest of us won't have to listen to your whining crybaby ass.%0D %0D What a fucking CUNT!

by Anonymousreply 1807/19/2010

There is a lot of hate in the U.S., R11. Our entire culture is based on having some kind of scapegoat to blame. Coupled with the overzealous consumerism that drives people to feel inadequate if they don't measure up physically, socially, or financially, it's a dangerous thing. Someone gets insecure because they aren't at the top of the heap, so they start shitting on others lower than them.

It's always been bad, but Reagan made it worse. He showed up at the end of a turbulent 2 decades and used all kind of rhetoric to make certain groups of people into villains. Gays, blacks, the poor, liberals, feminists, you name it. That was 30 years ago and I'm not sure the country is going to ever truly move on from it.

by Anonymousreply 1907/19/2010

And r17, have you noticed that the junk food TV ads--pizza, burgers,etc.--are always followed by pharmaceutical ads for cholesterol pills, blood pressure medicine, erectile dysfunction pills. If a foreigner sat and watched TV in U.S. for twenty-four hours they would think America is full of people on the verge of heart attacks who 'can't get it up' for sex. It's all a sad statement about our country.

by Anonymousreply 2107/19/2010

Don't you have better things to think about OP? I mean, seriously it's pathetic. Same thread, different wording over and over again.

by Anonymousreply 2207/19/2010

we have lots of fatties in nyc but nothing like the south and midwest. i am always astounded by it.%0D %0D my family never had a scale. there were maybe two overweight kids throughout grammar school

by Anonymousreply 2307/19/2010

r11, where are you from?

by Anonymousreply 2407/19/2010

R17, you're just perfect aren't you?%0D %0D If only the rest of America could be as perfect as you are, with as much money that you have to buy all that fantastically healthy food, and as much time as you have, to prepare such fabulous healthy dishes.%0D %0D Isn't it nice that we ALL live with the exact same circumstances as the OP and R17, that we can all just be so thin, and beautiful, and healthy?%0D %0D That's what makes America so great. It's our homogeneity.

by Anonymousreply 2507/19/2010

OP if you really think this problem is limited to white men you have not been to a WalMart in California, New Mexico, Arizona, Detroit, Atlanta, El Paso, etc etc etc.

by Anonymousreply 2807/19/2010

I think fatties should be prohibited from going out of the house until they lose weight.

Laws should be passed that we do not have to see fatties in our sight.

by Anonymousreply 2907/19/2010

"Watch TV or go to the supermarket and read labels! The foods that are promoted to us, advertised, made accessible because they are cheap and convenient, are bad for us."

That's no excuse. People just have to watch what they eat everyday and they will remain slender.

by Anonymousreply 3007/19/2010

OP, why are angry, anorexic queens so obsessed with other people's weight?

by Anonymousreply 3107/19/2010

We aren't resolute or smart in America. We don't know how to turn off the TV or the internet. While we sit there on our fat asses, we are bombarded with advertisments, we even clip coupons and read magazines with nothing but food advertisements. People literally do not know how to eat healthy. It is very difficult in that atmosphere to rise above the garbage, or swim against the tide, whatever, to get to healthy. %0D %0D You're right. It is not an excuse. But it is an explanation. Americans have a collective psyche that thinks it's OK for them to eat a pound of bacon in the morning before going on%0D their five mile run. What I'm saying is that our culture, ppopular opinion, marketing, etc. all collectively conspire to keep us fat. Our brains are sluggish and over saturated with garbage too, BTW.

by Anonymousreply 3207/19/2010

Throughout most of human history food supplies were often scarce or intermittent, so our bodies are programmed to crave calories and carefully store them away for the lean times to come.

Most people probably don't understand the dynamics of calories, fat, and exercise.

But probably many of them don't give a shit, and revel in their awesome bulk.

by Anonymousreply 3307/19/2010

From birth, capitalists have indocrinated us into believing that there is something inherently wrong with us. Low self-esteem, if not outright self-hatred, is a staple of American life. %0D %0D We're actively encouraged to eat way too much and unhealthy food. Smoking is the most common bad habit in America, following not far behind by drinking, eating and other drugs. It's hard to market Health & Fitness to people that are actually healthy & fit and know it. Better that even healthy, fit people believe they're somehow inherently flawed and get plastic surgery to "fix" their distinctive nose so that Cameron Diaz now looks exactly like Kristan Chenoweth(sp?) only tall. (A fact that distracted me all through Knight & Day.) The medical and RX industries aren't going to make billions off healthy people, are they? And while Viagra is great for older men, it's marketed to all men, forcing yourself to have sex when you only think you want to isn't a bad idea at all. And that's not to mention all the legally available uppers (power drinks, a new one actually marketed like cocain) that require all the legally available downers (sleeping pills et cet). %0D %0D On top of that, for the last century, capitalists have done everything in their power to scare the sweet Jesus out of us. Rather ingeniously, they've managed to divide us up by every means imaginable and pit us against each other. Hate speech, of course, is only hate speech in America if it's directed at blacks or Jews, which serves only to piss off everyone that isn't black or Jewish. This has a primarily financial, not political, motive, for all it's beneficial politically to them. Do you know how much money they make off social conflict? Christianity, of course, is a multi-billion dollar industry selling salvation to people desperate to believe you can buy it. %0D %0D Really, I can go on forever.

by Anonymousreply 3407/19/2010

[quote[heterosexual, especially male, entitlement. so sick of it.

Right, because there are no fat women, especially not fat lesbians.

by Anonymousreply 3507/19/2010

[quote]Really, I can go on forever.

Please spare us, R34.

by Anonymousreply 3607/19/2010

But don't worry, R34. Because the pharmaceutical industry has made sure that there's a pill to fix EVERYTHING!%0D %0D Drugs for this and drugs for that. Depression, anxiety, fibromyalgia, restless leg syndrome. If you got it, BigPharma has got a pill for it.%0D %0D The billions in profits that the drug industry makes off all these sales, is just a nice side-effect.%0D %0D Isn't that convenient?

by Anonymousreply 3707/19/2010

It's called "subliminal suggestion" and has been the foundation of modern advertising for decades. You see dozens of advertisements for Pizza Hut or Little Caesars. TV, internet, magazines. You get their coupons in the mail.%0D You're surrounded. You think you are ignoring it but your not. %0D %0D Your subconscious is picking it up and storing it. So maybe once a week, or three times a month,or more, you get a "craving" for pizza. And guess what? They offer you "crazy bread" to go with it!%0D %0D BTW: The breads we eat today, including the multi-grained, artisanal, are very different and have much less fiber and nutritional value that breads our great grandparents ate. Next time you go to the store, look at the flour. Gold Medal,Pillsbury, etc. You can bake something from scratch, but it's full of additives. Additives that contribute to obesity.%0D %0D I'm not making excuses. But I do feel like it is honestly a very difficult challenge for people to try to get healthy, lose weight, and eat right. I think it's deliberate. Maybe by using additives and growth hormones, etc. the food producers get a bigger bang for the buck. I know the pharmaceutical compainies gain a lot from our bad habits. %0D %0D It's an uphill struggle to not get fat, to eat healthy. And it really isn't expensive. It does take real, sustained effort. It does take people wanting to be better informed and making sure they are purchasing wisely, reading labels, going out of their way. %0D %0D The local supermarket may be convenient, but it might not be the best place to buy all your food. I think most people don't take time to think beyond the gratification they get from eating something. Eating healthy takes discipline and effort and planning. And it's very rewarding.%0D %0D

by Anonymousreply 3807/19/2010

I wonder how OP perceives that the overweight guys being prideful in their obesity? Are you a telepath? You're wasting your talents complaining about this on the datalounge. Help solve crime or something.

by Anonymousreply 3907/19/2010

"People just have to watch what they eat everyday and they will remain slender."%0D %0D I've been watching what I eat every fucking day since I was ten years old, and I'm STILL plump. Not huge, but always 20-40 pounds overweight.%0D %0D However, I'm about 100-200 pounds lighter than my Midwestern relatives, so I suppose I haven't been entirely wasting my time.

by Anonymousreply 4007/19/2010

Anybody have a spare corn dog?

by Anonymousreply 4107/19/2010

Airports and malls are, you know, blow-uppable. Perhaps it would solve your problems to join al Quaeda.

by Anonymousreply 4207/19/2010

The proud, fat, white male is not an American issue. It's a global phenomena!

My father (English) is fat, and does not seem to be the least bothered about it. His 'type' are also found in Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and America.

by Anonymousreply 4307/19/2010

"I've been watching what I eat every fucking day since I was ten years old, and I'm STILL plump. Not huge, but always 20-40 pounds overweight."

So have I, and I'm not overweight. In fact, because I don't overeat AND I work out and do regular sit-ups, I have a narrow waist and ripped stomach.

It's possible for most people to do this if they try. You can too.

by Anonymousreply 4407/20/2010

Americans are fat, rude and ignorant of others. A double whammy. Nobody minds an overwieght person who is nice and thoughful.

by Anonymousreply 4507/20/2010

What's with all the fat defenders? It's unhealthy for the individual and costly for all of us. There are SO many ridiculously obese men these days. I'm not suggesting everyone should be really thin, but the amount of fat in bellies is truly insane.

by Anonymousreply 4607/26/2010

"He/she is likely Canadian or from the U.K.."

I doubt it. The U.K. and Canada have almost as many fat people as the U.S.of A.

Self loather is much more likely.

by Anonymousreply 4707/26/2010

I agree, R46. I am tired of seeing fatties everywhere I go.

by Anonymousreply 4807/27/2010

Mind your own fucking business. People that concentrate this much on other people's bodies, have no lives of their own.

by Anonymousreply 4907/27/2010

I once heard a report one the radio that the food industry is sticking chemicals in the food to make you want to consume more like a drug. Therefore this is one of the factors why Americans are very obese now days. The Food and drug Administration should investigate this issue. Here is an example. I was listing to another radio talk show, and they were talking about chemicals in food. Now, Coke A Cola is sold world wide, but there is a difference. Coke sold outside of the US is made with real sugar. However, Coke A Cola made for Americans is made with Fructose instead of sugar. Fructose is much more cheaper to use than real sugar in the US. This is a chemical, and any food chemical can cause cancer. Furthermore, the guy said he goes to the local Mexican market, and buys Coke A Cola made in Mexico. He says it tastes so much better, and it tastes just like when he was a kid when they used real sugar.

Also, I have talked to my relatives about this very interesting issue. They said back in the 40's 50's and 60's coke bottles were small and people usually drank one bottle. Now days they drink big gulps, or have a choice of various sizes small, medium, or large in fast food restaurants. That was unheard of for one person years ago. The Food Network have these programs in which they show these restaurants that serve huge portions. Again, my relatives said years ago, no one really ate like that as a general rule but in moderation. We gorge our food today. Also, I watched a program in which they were showing the standard size dinner plate grew over the years, and they showed even back in the 70's the plate size was much smaller in diameter than the plate size now days. The dish size today is just enormous in comparison to previous periods in American history. I was shock how America's eating habits have changed so drastically.

by Anonymousreply 5007/27/2010

[quote] I have no idea what you'd call someone from Oklahoma. "So fucking Oklahoman", perhaps.

Oklahoma is the Sooner State.

by Anonymousreply 5107/27/2010

It is time that fatties were gathered together and sent to their own island where they can be cut off from the rest of the population.

by Anonymousreply 5207/27/2010

Not only fat, but unbelievably ugly as well. Long gone are the days of the 50's and 60's when the average American was kind of the world ideal, especially the young. Put together, well-dressed, intelligent, wholesome, etc. No more. About 90% of people in the U.S. are disgusting looking, like we've become a nation of inbreds.%0D %0D I remember back in the days when you thought of the Soviet Union and conjured up images of big fat women in babuskas and ugly men in ugly suits. I was in Moscow earlier this year for the first time and could not begin to believe the huge numbers of very attractive and stylish people all over the place. Even Russia left the U.S. in the dust.

by Anonymousreply 5307/27/2010

Why isn't legislation being introduced to have the fatties put into camps?

by Anonymousreply 5407/27/2010

I wonder if r35 is really as dumb s/he sounds?? I bet r35 misses the point a lot. Posters like r35 are always my favorite type of posters on MB.

by Anonymousreply 5507/27/2010

Why is American me so stupid?

by Anonymousreply 5607/27/2010

Are you a fattie, R57?

by Anonymousreply 5807/27/2010

I've been assuming that when the recession hit people would start to lose weight because they'd be economizing on food. I have noticed less of the really morbidly obese people I used to see three or four years ago. Maybe they're all getting bariatric surgery now. And I do see more people in my neighborhood walking and riding bikes. %0D %0D Of course, the blame is mostly on the crap that passes for food in so many Americans' lives.

by Anonymousreply 5907/27/2010

Look at the ingredients in almost everything you buy in the U.S. that isn't organic. You will see that every single thing contains "high fructose corn syrup", even food items that you would never think would have it.%0D This stuff acts as a catalyst for food cravings. Look it up.

by Anonymousreply 6007/27/2010

This thread is makin' me hungry, y'all.

by Anonymousreply 6107/27/2010

So are we now in a world where all skinny guys are assumed to be gay?

by Anonymousreply 6207/27/2010

Except for young straight guys and straight male celebrities who need to stay in good shape for their careers, R62.

by Anonymousreply 6307/27/2010

r50, it's Coca-Cola not Coke A Cola.

by Anonymousreply 6407/27/2010

r50, you're right. American sodas, fast food and even cigarettes taste different in Europe. Americans and Europeans eating/drinking the same brands don't actually eat/drink the same stuff. To feel satisfied you need to eat/drink more of the stuff, hence the bigger portions in the US. It's a shame, and unless you monitor everything you eat, it's not hard to get fat. The whole system works against the people.

Euros eat junk too, plenty. But the recipes and portions are different.

by Anonymousreply 6507/27/2010

I think a lot of straight men are just self-absorbed and infantile and really don't have a clue how they come across to other people.

by Anonymousreply 6607/27/2010

Amen r66

by Anonymousreply 6707/28/2010

The problem really grew when families lost the time to cook because both parents needed to work to keep their heads above water. Then everyone just had to "pick up" dinner on the way home, and its fast food crap. No one has time to cook healthy.

by Anonymousreply 6807/28/2010

Why are straight men so self-absorbed?

by Anonymousreply 6907/28/2010

Pass the roast beef, please.

by Anonymousreply 7007/28/2010

Because they can get away with it, r69. Our culture enables it and even celebrates it.

by Anonymousreply 7107/28/2010

What I can't understand is why any woman would want to fuck these guys with the huge bellies.

by Anonymousreply 7207/28/2010

They die sooner, R72.

by Anonymousreply 7307/28/2010

LOL, r73

by Anonymousreply 7407/28/2010

Women are attracted to them because of the sense of domination. It lures them in, and then they regret it when they find out they are really just 11 year old boys.

by Anonymousreply 7507/29/2010

Who is Don Draper?

by Anonymousreply 7607/29/2010

Women are attracted to fat men, R75?

by Anonymousreply 7707/29/2010

I don't know, R20. She looks kind of butch to me.

by Anonymousreply 7807/29/2010

Yes, I am amazed at the number of beautiful women I see with overgrown frat boys in their 40s with huge bellies. Remember the Will & Grace where Karen and Jack were channel surfing sitcoms: "Beautiful woman -- fat guy. Beautiful woman -- fat guy. Beautiful woman -- fat guy."

by Anonymousreply 7907/30/2010

Fat Americans don't think they are fat.

They ALSO think America is the best country in the world, all other countries are insignificant, other countries (like Canada) should be glad America lets them exist, Everybody in the world wants to be an American, American courts are the only honest courts in the world, the smartest people in the world are American, and so on...... and so on.......

by Anonymousreply 8007/30/2010

When I see good-looking women with fat guys, I assume the guy wasn't fat and disgusting when they got married. Same when I see a hot guy with a poor dumpy thing.%0D %0D Most married people let themselves go eventually, but they rarely fall apart at the same rate.

by Anonymousreply 8107/30/2010

There are far more examples of skinny guys with fat wives.

by Anonymousreply 8207/30/2010

ew...

Freddy Rumson!

by Anonymousreply 8408/02/2010

The reason is that all the losers of the world that can not make a descent living in their countries %C3%A2%C2%80%C2%93and that also happen to be fugly people- went to the States where they breed like cockroaches. They eat like pigs and their genetics is prepared to accumulate fat like bears for winter, but happens that they never burn that fat back. All that bunch of losers only have some traits in common: they love violence, they despise law, they don%C3%A2%C2%80%C2%99t give a shit about the country where they dwell and they will learn faster than light their rights but neither of their obligations. Their biggest claim for intelligence is being able to listen to someone quote the bible %C3%A2%C2%80%C2%93or some crazy sacred book- and repeat it by memory without sense and even less analysis. They resent being poor just because they were told that stepping a foot on America would make them instantly rich and they consider themselves a life example even if they still live like illegals after 30 years of infecting the country. They hate themselves after just one generation because they are ashamed of whatever lousy origins they have is not the fairy tale American enough and at the same time they hate everyone who could loosely look like the fairy tale typical American because they will never will be able to become like them. They spend fortunes in lotteries because that%C3%A2%C2%80%C2%99s the only way that their pathetic lives can turn into a millionaire lifestyle overnight and if they happen to win they are murdered by their jealous kin who also think that life was unfair with them because they don%C3%A2%C2%80%C2%99t live like kings. Did I say that they breed a lot?

by Anonymousreply 8508/02/2010

And they are all so attractive in the our non-global warming summers.

by Anonymousreply 8608/09/2010

Obesity is more a symptom of poverty than wealth.

Americans are either exhausted from working long hours with no chance to exercise so they rely on fast processed food or they are under or unemployed and spend all day watching TV and eating crap and drinking sugary beer.

Also we have become completely car dependent and because there are less and less pedestrian options we have to drive three blocks to pick up our junk food.

Wealthy people don't have to eat fast food and there are other options, like liposuction.

by Anonymousreply 8708/09/2010

It only took a generation to get us porked up....

by Anonymousreply 8808/09/2010

See the DL Bear thread for you answer OP.

by Anonymousreply 8908/10/2010

Why are gay men such shallow cunts?

by Anonymousreply 9008/10/2010

[quote]Wealthy people don't have to eat fast food

Poor people don't have to eat so much fast food. Or as many calories of fast food.

by Anonymousreply 9108/10/2010

Obesity is not a minority state of being. Rather it is a significant health risk. In fact it is the most serious health risk in the US today. It is also modifiable.%0D %0D Obese people are not less than human- which is a condition bigots apply to their targets, whether gay, lesbian, black, Muslim, Jewish, Mexican, female, whatever. In fact none of these groups or any others are less than human. %0D %0D Obesity is also a social and economic problem because society is going to be paying for the health-related maladies of the obese. So it is a very complicated problem. My opinion is that factors that lead to obesity should be aggressively dealt with by society (and gov't) because of the fact that we have to pay for their poor health. It IS a public, not private issue.%0D %0D As for those who would dehumanize the obese and anyone else- they are solving no problems- just making life worse for everyone else and themselves.

by Anonymousreply 9208/10/2010

[quote]Poor people don't have to eat so much fast food. Or as many calories of fast food.

In North Philly - a HQ of MANY of the poor in the area, that many be the only food available, bunky.

by Anonymousreply 9308/10/2010

It doesn't matter if it's the only food available. 100 calories is 100 calories. If you don't want to put on weight don't eat more calories than you need. If you need 2000 calories and that's a burger, fries and a small shake then that's all you eat.

Show me the place where fast food is absoultely the only option.

by Anonymousreply 9408/10/2010

North Philly, Idiot.

Fucking get your head out of your asshole.

a part of urban blight is the total lack of grocery stores. North Philly, for example has a population of around 35,000. in the area I believe that there are about two real supermarkets. the rest of the area is services by bodegas which sell bags of chips and soda, and LOTS of cheap fried chicken take-outs. That's only one example. I'm aware that the South Bronx faces similar issues.

To equate obesity amongst the rock bottom poor with greed is an incorrect assumption.

by Anonymousreply 9508/10/2010

[quote]To equate obesity amongst the rock bottom poor with greed is an incorrect assumption.

I wasn't equating it with greed. Simply pointing out that the calorific value of what you eat is what affects your weight. People with appropriate body weights often don't eat any better than fat or thin people they simply eat the correct number of calories. You don't have to buy the chips and soda. You can buy tinned veg, tinned soup and drink water.

What is a healthy diet is a completely different issue.

by Anonymousreply 9608/10/2010

Economics. It is far cheaper to make food taste good with fat, salt and sugar than it is making food with quality ingredients. You can make amazing, healthy and great tasting frozen fruit smoothies and oven baked nachos, but you must use quality (expensive) ingredients and it takes time.

by Anonymousreply 9708/10/2010

My mum is a nurse, she told me that when people come to hospital after their bad diet, some of them take their anger on staff when they are told to eat healthy

by Anonymousreply 9808/10/2010

R85 is unhinged (abnd bigoted).

by Anonymousreply 9908/10/2010

vague and erroneous

by Anonymousreply 10008/10/2010

You have to love the excuses people produce when confronted about the fatassness of the American population. They're so creative. We should have a DL contest to see how creative people can get when asked to reallocate personal responsibility for the side effects of mental and emotional weakness. It'd be fun to watch.

by Anonymousreply 10208/10/2010

In order to run a grocery store in a bad neighborhood you have to have a plexiglas shield between yourself and your customers or else you'll be shoplifted and robbed out of business. It makes far more sense just to set up a fast food place. Especially since a majority of your clientele are going to be poorly educated people who don't know or care anything about nutrition and quite possibly are too mentally ill or messed up on drugs or liquor to get it together to shop and cook their own meals.

Poor people have bigger problems than lack of access to lentils and fresh cabbage.

by Anonymousreply 10308/10/2010

Upscale people are more status conscious. Right now it's fashionable to be thin, and being fit and toned is assumed to be a sign of health and self-discipline (even if it's actually maintained by eating disorders, bariatric surgery, cigarettes and narcotics.) A hundred years ago it was the opposite. Rich people porked out and poor people looked like models (albeit very dirty, sickly ones.)

by Anonymousreply 10408/10/2010

[quote]By the pound carrots and cabbage are cheaper than potato chips.%0D %0D If God wanted us to eat carrots and cabbage, she would have given us floppy ears.

by Anonymousreply 10508/10/2010

He gave you a floppy penis, is that not enough?

by Anonymousreply 10608/11/2010

[quote]That's no excuse. People just have to watch what they eat everyday and they will remain slender.%0D %0D That's true. If it worked for Karen Carpenter, it will work for anyone!

by Anonymousreply 10708/11/2010

Extreme examples aside there is NO excuse for obesity.

Eat fewer calories, move more.

by Anonymousreply 10808/11/2010

So what type of ears do mother natures natural eaters of potato chips have R105?

by Anonymousreply 10908/11/2010

When are the fatties going to be brought under control in this country?

by Anonymousreply 11008/12/2010

I'm fat and I'm fuckin at fifty.

by Anonymousreply 11108/12/2010

[quote]...factors that lead to obesity should be aggressively dealt with by society (and gov't) because of the fact that we have to pay for their poor health. It IS a public, not private issue... As for those who would dehumanize the obese and anyone else- they are solving no problems- just making life worse for everyone else and themselves.%0D %0D How about if you help stop the dehumanizing by ceasing to lie about the health care costs of obesity?%0D %0D [quote]Ultimately, the thin and healthy group cost the most, about $417,000, from age 20 on. The cost of care for obese people was $371,000, and for smokers, about $326,000.

by Anonymousreply 11208/12/2010

The fatties have gotten more and more out of control every year.

by Anonymousreply 11308/12/2010

Straight White Male ignorance and brutality has ruined human history.

by Anonymousreply 11408/25/2010

It is time that the fatties were deported to their own island.

by Anonymousreply 11508/26/2010

They have their own island. It's called Tulsa.

by Anonymousreply 11608/26/2010

I OWN this thread!

by Anonymousreply 11708/26/2010

I've noticed that probably most of the people who walk between terminals in the Atlanta airport (as opposed to taking the small train) are in good shape.%0D %0D Likewise, most of them (including me) are badly dressed.

by Anonymousreply 11808/26/2010

The fatter they are, the more likely they are to be religious. Except in the dyke category.

by Anonymousreply 11908/26/2010

R112, you left a little detail out, the reason for this over lifetime is due to the fact that the obese die (earlier).%0D %0D If obese people live into old age- and only the affluent among them do, because they can afford high cost health care, their costs are much higher. Most obese people in the US are in the lower socio economic groups.%0D %0D As I stated earlier, it is a public health issue, just like smoking. %0D %0D It is a terrible problem, one pretty much caused by our huge processed food industry making sweetened and salty foods readily available and advertising it all effectively.%0D Also no help from sedentary lifestyles. %0D %0D I get a kick out of people in their 30s who think fat accumulation and exercise difficulty is part of the aging process- at that age. In fact, anyone who wants to can exercise well into old age without any problem if they made it part of their lives.%0D

"I love it when gay men try to be the morality police."

Which is why we loathe people like Ken Mehlman and other gay Republicans like yourself.

My thread does not exist.

R12:

We send our mentally disabled people to St. Louis to teach school.

by Anonymousreply 12308/26/2010

I'm in the Detroit airport right now. These fuckers are FAT!

by Anonymousreply 12409/01/2010

When is action going to be taken against the fatties?

by Anonymousreply 12509/01/2010

privilege = fat

by Anonymousreply 12609/02/2010

Go to the fucking gym...

by Anonymousreply 12709/03/2010

In America, poverty = fat R126, that is a well proven fact.

by Anonymousreply 12809/06/2010

Have you seen "Mike and Molly"? He loves his belly. And so does she.

by Anonymousreply 12910/15/2010

OP:

by Anonymousreply 13010/15/2010

r129= shill for the Mike and Molly show.%0D %0D WE AIN'T GONNA WATCH IT, SO GIVE IT UP!!!!

by Anonymousreply 13101/09/2011

Well, the unions helped by shutting down down Hostess. That's start, I guess?

by Anonymousreply 13211/16/2012

OP is a stereotypical femme, sporting lip gloss, and proud of her manorexia.

I'd rather sit with a bunch of fat people than people like OP.

People like OP are the same ones who hate blacks. Blacks are overwhelmingly obese, as are a lot of minorities due to poverty.

Fuck off bigot! Work on that shitty personality of yours.

by Anonymousreply 13311/16/2012

.

by Anonymousreply 13411/16/2012

Why do so many of these fat men think they can still attract hot chicks?

by Anonymousreply 13611/17/2012

They're fat because they don't care what you think.

I think that's at the root of all of the fat-hate on DL. Those straight men can eat as they please and spend their time doing things they enjoy besides the gym and they still get laid.

That hurts.

by Anonymousreply 13711/17/2012

OP, do you even know what "hoosier" means?

by Anonymousreply 13811/17/2012

Anxiety eating may be part of it. Also, we seem to be readjusting what we think of as normal -- really big looks normal to us now.

But as charlie points out, the health costs are huge (so to speak) and the corresponding cost to society may be as well.

Personally, I think people feel entitled to more. Not just men; women, too. More food, bigger portions, extra mayo. Ever notice that people put ranch dressing on their fries now? It's not enough to have the fries with ketchup, which while sugary isn't high fat. No, they need ranch dressing, which is loaded with fat.

Also, I think that people have forgotten (or never learned) how to eat healthy. I learned from my parents that good food could be cheaply made. Starting out after college, I'd make split pea soup from scratch and eat that for a week. I wasn't raised on junk food. These people now were.

by Anonymousreply 13911/17/2012

Ugh, R44. If someone is genuinely doing what they need to be doing lifestyle-wise, you can't criticize that they're 20-40 lbs. overweight. Also: pics, please!

Anyway, the documentary Food, Inc. touches upon these things--as R50 and R60 have mentioned, etc.

by Anonymousreply 14011/17/2012

I love the sign on the door of a French bar on the Cote d'Azur --- "Maximum capacity 100 persons - or 50 Americans."

by Anonymousreply 14111/17/2012

The biggest problem is the food industry putting chemical shit, sweeteners and too much sodium into everything we eat. HFCS goes straight to fat cells unlike real sugar which can be burned off quicker.

Americans are literally weaned on sweeteners. Read a list of bread ingredients. Corn syrup will be listed near the top. The only sugar in bread should be used for getting the yeast going.

by Anonymousreply 14211/17/2012

Not only that. Flour is rather unnatural, too. Especially in such huge quantities. The food pyramid is laughable for suggesting that we all have to eat a minimum amount of grain every day, let alone including flour-based products as nourishing grain.

by Anonymousreply 14311/17/2012

R143? shut your fucking pie hole!

by Anonymousreply 14411/17/2012

Sorry, Doughboy. *tummy poke*

by Anonymousreply 14511/17/2012

To me it seems that parents now are not imposing portion control on children. I remember growing up my parents watched what we ate -- we were allowed a handful of nuts, then had to put the can back on the shelf. One can of soda per day on weekends only, sometimes a half can if I split with my sister. One glass of milk per meal. Overeating was discouraged. The point is, we were aware.

Went on a car trip last month with a friend and her daughter age 9 (already plump). Mom hands the kid in the back seat a can of Pringles. While Mom and I are chatting, the child absent-mindedly scarfs down the whole tube in 20 minutes (!!!). All that salt, fat, and chemicals. The kid tucks in some more less than an hour later, a whole plastic bowl of supermarket fruit salad, probably a pound of it, saying it is "healthy. " Sad really. Parents need to call the shots here. Kids have no judgment of what or how much to eat, and if they learn bad habits young they could be fat all their lives.

I feel mildly guilty for being judgmental of fat people, but wish to point out that it is hard to look intelligent when you are really fat. I have been in charge of hiring and it is a struggle for me to be fair to fat folks. They have to bring more than usual to the table skills-wise for me to consider hiring them. Unfair but there it is.

by Anonymousreply 14611/17/2012

Carbs are the culprit. Americans eat far too many of them, not to mention that they're marketed 24/7 on television, billboards, radio, etc.

by Anonymousreply 14711/17/2012

"Maximum capacity 100 persons - or 50 Americans."

Really? Lmfao!

by Anonymousreply 14811/17/2012

Yes, obese people are disgusting. I recently had some fat pig take up half of my airline seat. He had his own, but spilled over into mine. How is that legal? I didn't pay for half a seat! He didn't pay for half of mine!

He should have had to pay for two, I'm sure he knew he'd overflow into the next person's seat, but he was to selfish, or too far in denial, to just be a decent human and pay for the number of seats his fat ass needs.

All this 'fat acceptance' is bull. Chubby, okay. You aren't a drain on the welfare and medical system yet. You can still walk far enough to buy your own food. Obesity, you've deliberately disabled yourself, and the rest of us shouldn't have to pay for your addiction.

At least junkies admit they're junkies.
