Playing the pronoun game

Ostensibly straight celebrities (male and female) do this as well in interviews:

"I'd marry the person if I were really in love with them"

"I have to be attracted to the person"

And, similarly:

"The people I've slept with," even if it is implied that they only sleep with the opposite sex.

I'm not American and don't live in the US, and am wondering if this is common among twentysomethings in general.

It's common, except among actors who are closeted but don't want to go out of their way to lie about their sexuality. So they act vague and use gender neutral pronouns.
