So... besides the Indigo Girls and k.d. lang

What do the lesbians listen to?

by Anonymousreply 6006/08/2013

Patsy Cline

Kelly Clarkson

Tracy Chapman

I know several lesbians who are big opera fans--they love Maria Callas.

by Anonymousreply 105/29/2010

by Anonymousreply 205/29/2010

Springsteen, P!nk, Regina Spektor, Paul Kelly

by Anonymousreply 305/29/2010

Currently, the artists most represented on my ipod are Pink, Lady Gaga, old school Cyndi Lauper and my new minor obsession with Crystal Bowersox (who has some great originals in addition to the Idol stuff).

by Anonymousreply 405/29/2010

Melissa Etheridge

by Anonymousreply 505/29/2010

Lucinda Williams and Patty Griffin are popular amongst discerning lesbians.

by Anonymousreply 605/29/2010

Don't forget Joan Armatrading, Tegan and Sarah, Allison Goldfrappe, etc.

by Anonymousreply 705/29/2010

Oh...I LOVE the Dixie Chicks...Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, Joni Mitchell, etc.

by Anonymousreply 805/29/2010

I dislike the so called lesbian music. I never heard one song of the Indigo Girls, kd lang leaves me cold, I can't stand Melissa Etheridge and Tegan and Sara make me change the music... well, you get the picture.

Me, too. I love the drama, the voices and the cleavages. Good times.

by Anonymousreply 905/29/2010

Um, hello? Does no one remember me?

by Anonymousreply 1005/29/2010

This one's for you OP:

"Top 30 Lesbian/Bisexual Musicians"

by Anonymousreply 1105/29/2010

My former lez-lez roomie hated Etheridge, Indigo Girls and all that stuff.

She LOVED Chrissie Hynde, k.d. lang, David Bowie, Lucinda Williams, Mary Gauthier. Her current favorite is Sharon Jones.

by Anonymousreply 1205/29/2010

What about old school soul music such as Motown or Stax?

What about classic rock such as Cream, Jimi Hendrix, the Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, and many more?

by Anonymousreply 1305/29/2010

Each other

by Anonymousreply 1405/29/2010

I used to see a lot of baby dykes at Kristin Hersh concerts. Not anymore.

by Anonymousreply 1505/29/2010

Bette Midler

The Carpenters

by Anonymousreply 1605/29/2010

Hildegard de Bingen

by Anonymousreply 2305/29/2010

Anne Murray

by Anonymousreply 2405/29/2010

25 replies and no JOAN JETT??

Also: Melissa Ferrick, The Muffs, L7, Sexpod, Nanci Griffith, Emmylou Harris, The Dixie Chicks, and I am also old school: Bruce, The Who and Pink Floyd.

by Anonymousreply 2505/29/2010

Car Talk

by Anonymousreply 2605/29/2010

Marlene Dietrich singing "Three Sweethearts Have I."

by Anonymousreply 2705/30/2010

I agree with Anne Murray.

by Anonymousreply 2805/30/2010

[quote]I agree with Anne Murray.

Well I bet that makes her happy.

by Anonymousreply 2905/30/2010

Mother Earth

by Anonymousreply 3005/30/2010

I'm currently in love with Melissa's new album, Fearless Love, and playing it to death.

On my On The Go playlist (my current favorites) I've also got Led Zep, Springsteen, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, Ray Charles, Kelly Clarkson, Eminem, Kanye, Ne-Yo, Florence The Machine (who I adore), Dizzee Rascal, The Jacksons, Yo Yo Ma, Pink, Pixie Lott, the Rolling Stones and Duffy.

Will be investigating La Bowersox anon.

I'm utterly undiscerning and not the slightest bit loyal, except to Bruce Springsteen, who I have loved since I was about 14.

by Anonymousreply 3105/30/2010

I'm a gay guy who loves a lot of stereotypical lesbian music. I'd add Mary Chapin Carpenter and Shawn Colvin to the above. Maybe some old school Sarah MacLachlan too.

by Anonymousreply 3205/30/2010

That group on "Rick & Steve"--you know, the one with the song that goes, "I'm a lesbian, yeah, I'm a lesbian."

by Anonymousreply 3305/30/2010

Chely Wright, The Beatles, dance music, country, hip hop, rockabilly, classic rock.....what do you think we listen to? The singer doesn't always have to be a lesbo to gt us to listen to them..and when was the last time K.D. Lang released something? Give us some credit...

by Anonymousreply 3405/30/2010

Never got into or liked the "lesbian" music. Have always been into rock music, particularly heavy metal. In fact, liking AC/DC, Sabbath, etc.. when I was a girl was one of the first indications to me that I was a lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 3505/30/2010

My tastes extend across most types of music, from the Stones to Chopin. Yes, I love the Indigo Girls, Joan Jett, Sarah MacLachlan, etc., but I have a broad and ecclectic mix on my ipod.

by Anonymousreply 3605/30/2010

I'm a lesbian who loves Tori Amos, Indigo Girls, Billie Holliday, Tegan and Sarah, Ani DeFranco, Joni Mitchell, Björk, Sarah McLachlan, Poe, old Liz Phair, Bikini Kill, Heart, Janis Joplin, Ella Fitzgerald, Aimee Mann, Annie Lennox, Laura Nyro, Nina Simone, Minnie Riperton, Maria Callas, Édith Piaf, Goldfrapp, Le Tigre, Blondie, PJ Harvey, Keren Ann, Jane Siberry, Kate Bush, Annie Lennox, Radiohead, Bob Marley & The Wailers, Peter Tosh, Rolling Stones, Sigur Rós, AIR, The Beatles, The Cure, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Luciano Pavarotti, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and a bunch of other artists. My taste is eclectic.

by Anonymousreply 3705/30/2010

Evidently DL doesn't like special characters. Bummer! Bjork, Edith Piaf, and Sigur Ros are the names that look strange.

by Anonymousreply 3805/30/2010

Cuntry music.

by Anonymousreply 3905/30/2010

What about Parliament-Funkadelic?

by Anonymousreply 4005/31/2010

Not Melissa Etheridge nor the Indigo Girls.

k.d. lang is on my spotify list though.

by Anonymousreply 4105/31/2010

Anita Baker. She has a huge lesbian following.

by Anonymousreply 4205/31/2010

Mellisa Ferrick Chris Pureka

by Anonymousreply 4306/01/2010

Bach's Cello Suites, most recently.

by Anonymousreply 4406/01/2010

Agreed on Maria Callas.

I guess the only other typical "lesbian music" I listen to is Joan Jett's older songs and The Gossip. When I was a teen I listened a lot to Ani DiFranco. The rest, Melissa, Indigo, Tegan%Sara, Sarah McClachan bore me to tears. I'm a lesbian who have gay boy taste in music.

by Anonymousreply 4506/01/2010

Def Leppard.

by Anonymousreply 4606/01/2010

Sexpod? I can't believe someone mentioned that band. They were great live, but the best has to Tribe 8, always loved when Lynn brought out the strap on. Anyone remember Transisters with Chloe the poz tranny porn singer?

I'm a guy but loved hanging with my punk sisters in the struggle back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 4706/01/2010

Is Paula Cole considered "lesbian" music?

by Anonymousreply 4806/01/2010

Sarah Maclaughlin

Sheryl Crowe

Patsy Cline

Alanis Morisette

by Anonymousreply 4906/01/2010

by Anonymousreply 5006/06/2010

Certainly Joan Armatrading and Dusty Springfield!

by Anonymousreply 5106/06/2010

Steve Goodman

Fred Smith

Steeleye Span

The Band

Randy Newman

Cris Williamson

God-des and She

The Deadly Nightshade

Kath Tait

Toni Childs

(don't actually listen to kd!)

by Anonymousreply 5206/06/2010

That's a little like asking, "What do the gays listen to these days, besides Bette Midler and Judy Garland?" Haven't listened to Melissa Etheridge or kd lang in ages.

Sharon Jones for sure. Zee Avi. Grizzly Bear. 70's funk. New Sade. Scissor Sisters. Township dance music from the 70s (Golden Afrique). Toots & the Maytals.

by Anonymousreply 5306/06/2010

Tegan and Sara really are blowing up huge in the States.

by Anonymousreply 5411/28/2012

That's not funny!!

by Anonymousreply 5511/28/2012

Every lesbian I know is obsessed with Brandi Carlile. I also know several middle-aged straight women who are also rabid fans.

by Anonymousreply 5611/28/2012

i cant believe ani difranco was only mentioned once on here. and you know all dykes love tori amos because she was raped. if there was a deaf singer the dykes would also love that. are there any handicapped or sickly, cancerous singers out there? dykes will eat that shit up with a spoon.

by Anonymousreply 5706/08/2013

Straight men dig lesbian music.

by Anonymousreply 5806/08/2013

They sure as hell don't listen to me.

by Anonymousreply 5906/08/2013

I loved a lot of stereotypical alt white girl lez music growing up (I always drew the line at Ani, though) but I never got into Tegan and Sara until they put out their super-poppy latest album. At times it sounds like a Katy Perry record made by actual dykes but/and it's fantastic.
