Home Invasion Nightmare!

My house is being invaded with black flies.

HELP!

There are no open windows or doors.

Are they coming in through the vents?

My Dyson is filled with their little nasty bodies.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Name dropper!

by Heloise in Hellreply 105/16/2010

Bring in a couple of frogs or lizards.

by Heloise in Hellreply 205/16/2010

you must have a dead mouse somewhere

by Heloise in Hellreply 305/16/2010

Oooh, I think it's something bigger than just a mouse. Dead mice tend to just mummify, harmlessly.

More likely you have a dead raccoon or opossum, either under your house or in your walls.

by Heloise in Hellreply 405/16/2010

I'll send the cats over. They bust shit up, but they do kill flies.

by Heloise in Hellreply 505/16/2010

Wendy Williams discussed this on her show. Her NY studio use to be infested with black flies, but a viewer told her to fill a few paper cups with apple cider vinegar and place them around the studio. It worked!

by Heloise in Hellreply 605/16/2010

You must have realized that, eventually, the trick in the wall would become an issue.

by Heloise in Hellreply 705/16/2010

I adore all of you for your clever and in one instance, helpful answers.

This is why I pay my $18!

by Heloise in Hellreply 805/16/2010

Large flies or gnats? Do you have plants? Check the soil. Buy bags of quicklime and dust the corpses of your dead tricks posthaste!

by Heloise in Hellreply 905/16/2010

Do you live in Amityville, OP?

by Heloise in Hellreply 1005/16/2010

Drain flies?

by Heloise in Hellreply 1105/16/2010

try pouring a cup of bleach down all your sinks nightly for about a month or until they go away. If they've infested your place, do as r6 says-- but pouring bleach down the drain destroys their eggs.

by Heloise in Hellreply 1205/16/2010

OP, are they smaller with fairly triangular wings? If so, and they also leave a greyish-black dusty smear when you smash 'em, then they're sewer flies. House flies are the regular bigger guys that have dark black bodies and slightly iridescent wings.

Google "sewer flies" to see images and get remedies.

by Heloise in Hellreply 1305/16/2010

you in danger girl! your mussy must be moist! smoke copious amounts of pot, silly! Don't offer em any turkey meatballs or towels!

by Heloise in Hellreply 1405/16/2010

Why must it always be about color with you???

by Heloise in Hellreply 1505/16/2010

OK, so before I went out this morning, I put out the cider vinegar. Did nothing.

I took the drain idea seriously, since they seem to be coming in somewhere in my kitchen and i do have three drains in there.

I closed them all to see if that stops it.

In case anyone still cares: they are just black, run-of-the-mill flies. Not huge but not small either.

by Heloise in Hellreply 1605/16/2010

Flypaper is your friend.

by Heloise in Hellreply 1705/16/2010

Brinks home security.

An alarm will sound and a trained representative will phone you each time one enters.

by Heloise in Hellreply 1805/16/2010

Typical DL bullshit. If the flies were white, OP, I bet you wouldn't have any problem at all!

The fuckin' racism arounbd here is just disgusting!

by Heloise in Hellreply 1905/16/2010

Good old fashioned fly paper. Nothing works better.

by Heloise in Hellreply 2005/16/2010

Move.

by Heloise in Hellreply 2105/16/2010

Find the nest. They've laid eggs inside your house somewhere.

by Heloise in Hellreply 2205/16/2010

I need help w/ black flies. So unsanitary There must be a dead animal somewhere. Grocery stores and drug stores don't have fly paper. So far the flies keep committing suicide flying into the windows. Gross. Any home remedies?

by Heloise in Hellreply 2306/27/2013

Call Orkin!

by Heloise in Hellreply 2406/27/2013

You have to find the dead body (or other source). Otherwise it doesn't matter what you do. And clean your damn house!

"Only a couple of days after an adult female fly emerges from the pupa, she will start to lay eggs, maybe 250 at a time and she lays eggs daily.

In order to lay the eggs, she must first look for decaying or rotting grounds which includes garbage cans, a dead animal carcass lying around or any other rotting food source. And it is possible that such breeding grounds be found on the kitchen counter tops."

by Heloise in Hellreply 2506/27/2013

OP- Look again for the fly paper in the insecticide section of store. They come in little rolls which you unroll and hang up. They're gross to look at but they do work. Had to use them once myself when I couldn't find the source of the problem.

by Heloise in Hellreply 2606/27/2013

Do they have large wings and fangs an inch long? If so, you have been invaded by Catholic Cardinals of the Biblical Era.

There is really nothing you can do except to go & confess your sins to your local priest. Just keep the young boys away!

by Heloise in Hellreply 2706/27/2013

[all posts by tedious troll removed.]

by Heloise in Hellreply 2806/27/2013

Do you have a fireplace? Same thing happened to me...I'd kill what I could find, but they kept coming back. There was a dead bird in the fireplace/chimney. Once the bird was removed...flies disappeared.

by Heloise in Hellreply 2906/27/2013

You know R13, you could have provided a link to sewer flies. Would it have been that much extra work? Good manners means always being helpful and doing a little bit more.

by Heloise in Hellreply 3006/27/2013

Keep them away from your Chardonnay.

by Heloise in Hellreply 3106/27/2013

Are you talking about cardinal flys? I never heard of that species. Link, r27!

by Heloise in Hellreply 3206/27/2013

Keep us posted, OP.

by Heloise in Hellreply 3306/27/2013

Probably not black flies. Probably termites. You in danger OP.

by Heloise in Hellreply 3406/27/2013

Frogs eat flies. You'll need about 10,000 frogs.

by Heloise in Hellreply 3506/27/2013

If you have that many flies then there is something dead in your house.

by Heloise in Hellreply 3606/27/2013

Termites don't have wings, r34. And, termites are white, not black.

by Heloise in Hellreply 3706/27/2013

Try taking a shower.

by Heloise in Hellreply 3806/27/2013

Is OP the same filthy person who has eye snots?

by Heloise in Hellreply 3906/27/2013

Termites do have wings, grasshopper.

by Heloise in Hellreply 4006/27/2013

OP, I've got the exact same thing; it got worse this week when the temperature went up. It's not fruitflies (which are annoying) - they are black flied. I killed the existing flies, thoroughly cleaned my house and there are more today. I can't figure out how they are getting in. I have a fireplace, though it doesn't work anymore, but I close the screens to see if that helps.

by Heloise in Hellreply 4106/27/2013

The flies are not invaders.

The flies are coming from inside the house!

Seriously. Do you have any potted plants?

by Heloise in Hellreply 4206/27/2013

Take out the garbage!

by Heloise in Hellreply 4306/27/2013

A dollar store should have flypaper, due to the sort of people who frequent the establishment.
