After 30 years, he and his partner have split.
Richard Chamberlain Reportedly Single

Oh, I can finally get my chance at him! I loved him in "The Thorn Birds"! (swoons)
|by Anonymous||reply 1||04/26/2010|
That's too bad -- wonder what happened to break them up after 30 years.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||04/26/2010|
[quote]That's right, Kathy -- don't let a little thing like sexual orientation dissuade you from your dreams!!!!
Kathy...you go right ahead, honey. He probably just hasn't met the right girl yet.

I don't have any current gossip, but I know that Martin very nearly broke up with him in the mid-80s over his refusal to come out. He seriously considered coming out at the time, and had PR people ready for the announcement, but something spooked him and he ran back into the closet. It infuriated Martin, and they had a brief separation, but reconciled.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||04/26/2010|
Wonder what would cause a break-up after all these years?
|by Anonymous||reply 8||04/27/2010|
|by Anonymous||reply 9||04/27/2010|
Martin's not in his 70s, he's about 54ish. He was really good looking back in the day - if he kept himself in good shape, he might be a hot daddy now and still able to score more desirable younger men.
Martin used to be an actor. He had a small role in "The Thorn Birds" as a young priest who gets in trouble - I can't remember now, I think he has to stop being a priest for some reason. It was only one or two scenes, but he got to cry.
Martin was a very nice guy, but who knows what the last 25 years have done to him (that's the last time I saw him).

Why do you think that, R10?
|by Anonymous||reply 12||04/27/2010|
R12, because he's a good-looking old guy with fame and, presumably, wealth. There are probably lots of older gay men who would love to have him for a partner. There are also plenty of younger men who are attracted to older men, and likewise many of those who would probably love to be Chamberlain's next. He also seems to be a decent, well-grounded sort, though that's pure speculation on my part. Do I have a double-blind, placebo controlled study? Well, no. But it seems more than reasonable to think RC will have no trouble finding companionship, short or long-term. Alternative views welcome.

Maybe he can win a date with Scott Evans.
|by Anonymous||reply 14||04/27/2010|
I get what you are saying, R10, but Richard Chamberlain is getting on now and I doubt he can get as many younger hunks as in the past
|by Anonymous||reply 15||04/27/2010|
It would be a fantasy come real if he dated Ben Casey.
|by Anonymous||reply 19||04/27/2010|
[quote]You mean he looks better now that the facelift has collapsed? Yes, it takes a few years for the really tight skin to loosen up. Mary Tyler Moore had a few rough years there and her's fell and she looks great today.

The couple in happier times.

"Chamberlain reportedly moved back to Los Angeles earlier this year to film a series of appearances in the TNT show Leverage, starring Timothy Hutton."
I didn't realize that Timothy Hutton is still in the business.

They're filming Leverage's third season. Excellent show. And Hutton has been in 23 films in the past ten years -- a lot of indies, but some mainstream releases too, like DeNiro's "The Good Shepherd," "The Last Mimzy," and this year's "The Ghost Writer."

Long before even The Thornbirds and Sho-gun, Richard starred as Dr. Kildare and was a bigger TV star than most kids today could imagine. I don't think TV stars can achieve that level of fame any more. In 1962 all the girls in my 5th grade class wore Dr. Kildare doctor shirts.

And he had an album. He did the original version of "Close to You"
|by Anonymous||reply 25||04/27/2010|
The pressure of being an out celebrity was simply too much for their relationship.

"It would be a fantasy come real if he dated Ben Casey."
That would be some fantasy considering the actor who played Ben Casey, Vince Edwards, is dead.

Cupcake, Vince Edwards died in 1995 or so.

Perhaps Richard found his partner fucking Tiger Woods?! Anything is possible!
|by Anonymous||reply 30||04/28/2010|
Too old for me
|by Anonymous||reply 31||04/28/2010|
I had him sign my "The Towering Inferno" DVD. It was all his fault!
|by Anonymous||reply 32||04/28/2010|
Sorry forgot to post.... Im 56. Richard, by the way, is one of those Manly Man types.. So Rabette had to be his bitch lol. I know Richard was always pissed due to Martins wild ways with his young friends...Martin wouldnt come home for days leaving poor Richard in a fit of jealousy.

Famous Dave, what was Nobuko like? Was he hot? Was he a bottom? Was Richard fucking him too?
|by Anonymous||reply 35||08/03/2011|
Isn't Nobuko a female name?
|by Anonymous||reply 36||08/03/2011|
My first crush...I was six.

How the fuck do these ancient threads with less than even 40 posts get boooted back up by people who aren't even members here?%0D %0D Nevertheless, I love Richard Chamberlain and I always appreciate any updates on his dating habits.

R39, they're stuck on our Thread Watchers.
|by Anonymous||reply 40||08/04/2011|
whatever anybody says about richard, let me say this - i owe the man my life. In my 20's I was getting ready to commit suicide and I walked past a theatre and there was this movie called The Slipper and the Rose and I went in to watch it and it was so full of life and light and colour and beauty and music that it put something back into my life that I've never since lost. And i've never forgotten it. it's something that will stay in my heart forever.

He had to legally adopt his boyfriend back in the 70s.
|by Anonymous||reply 42||07/22/2013|
I've never understood why/how some people get great cosmetic surgery and look fantastic - like Jane Fonda - and other people get awful work done like Richard Chamberlain or Mary Tyler Moore.
Mary is only 1 year older than Jane, 76 vs. 75.
|by Anonymous||reply 44||07/22/2013|
I would think after being practically a lifetime diabetic that Mary isn't the world's best healer.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||07/22/2013|
So, did he ever find another partner?
|by Anonymous||reply 46||07/22/2013|
I hope he doesn't do a re-set, and now that he's 70, go after an 18 year old again - over 50 year age difference is pathetic.
|by Anonymous||reply 47||07/22/2013|
He was part of my early year "what the hell?" moments.
I was watching a movie he did with Yvette Mimieux (love that name)on TV.
There is a scene of him taking a shower and his beautiful body had a physical effect on me that I was years away from understanding.

|by Anonymous||reply 49||07/23/2013|
One too many rent boys?
|by Anonymous||reply 50||07/23/2013|
Richard has never had a facelift. He challenged a horde of reporters that if he could prove he had done facework he would pay then $10,000. But if they could not prove it they would have to pay him the ten grand. But why all the bitchiness here? Settle down kids. He's just trying to make his way though life like everyone else.

Rich! Old! Near death! RICH!!!
How do I meet this guy?
|by Anonymous||reply 52||10/31/2013|
r42 how could Richard adopt? Marty's parents were living.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||11/01/2013|
Kiss me on my mouth ... as if we were lovers!
|by Anonymous||reply 54||11/01/2013|
You can adopt someone whose parents are still living,
|by Anonymous||reply 55||11/01/2013|
r42, that's hot.
|by Anonymous||reply 56||11/01/2013|
Eat my shorts, r24.
|by Anonymous||reply 57||11/01/2013|
He's not dead!
Why does his life sound like a Gordon Merrick novel?
|by Anonymous||reply 58||11/01/2013|
Who's your daddy?
