Gayest music since the disco era!

It was originally just "The Miami Sound Machine," a latin fusion ensemble with another female lead singer in the early 70s. This woman was a much better singer than Gloria, who has always been the weak link in the group. The woman, whose name I can't remember, was also dating Emilio Estefan and Gloria was just a tagalong/ backup singer. However, she stole Emilio away and within a few years they were "Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine." And now, of course, it's just Gloria Estefan, even though the Miami Sound Machine - easily one of the best Caribbean ensembles in the world right now, if not the best - still play as her back up band.

She can't sing, dance or write music, but somehow she managed to steal the whole damn show. Bitch knew how to work it, is all I have to say.

A ringing endorsement for old what's-her-name!

I liked them when they were just Miami Sound Machine but when Gloria Estefan put her name front and center they (she?) became way too schmaltzy and adult contemporary.

I think she has a fine voice. I saw her & the Miami Sound Machine perform at my county fair back in the late 1980s before they really hit it big. It was a great show, and she had a lot of energy. The crowd loved them, which was cool because I live in a small city in Iowa, where we usually have country acts at the county fair.

I was a really young kid at the time, idiot at R3. Give me a break.

Gloria doesn't have a fine voice; it's weak and flat. The band is much better than she is, there's no arguing that, yet she's overshadowed them thanks to her famous and talented husband.

Love them! Love the song! Gives me 'pies muy alegres'!

No say I.

Their music was always so derivative.

As celebrities go, I find Gloria very likable. Over the years their pop music has been hit or miss, but there are a couple songs that I really love.

But as much as I might like her, I agree with R6 about her voice. That nasal sound does annoy me, particularly on ballads.

The words get in the way, OP.

I used to really love "1,2,3" when it came out. I was about 12 at the time.

Remember all of the 'Get On Your Feet' jokes after the bus accident?

"Bad Boys" is a classic pop song. Love how the second version of the video featuring the cast of the then popular "Cats" has a great pre-Giuliani NYC feel.

I've always preferred her version of Turn The Beat. Vicki Sue Robinson, now SHE was an awful singer.

how yummy!

I disagree. She can cut a mean rug if you watch many of the MSM videos. Her voice can be very beautiful at times. Listen to the classics "Cuts Both Ways", "Words Get in the Way" or "Anything For You". She can also write, and has written many of their biggest hits by herself ("Don't Wanna Lose You", "Here We Are", "Can't Stay Away From You").

She and Emilio also discovered Shakira and Jon Secada. J-Lo's hit song "Let's Get Loud" was written by and originally intended for Gloria.

Wretched adult-contemporary Lite FM dreck, right up there with the equally awful Michael Bolton and Jon Secada.

Gloria is a great gay icon and gay men love her!
