Which Male Celebs are Smokers?

Who has the habit?

by Anonymousreply 80January 8, 2009 9:25 PM

Pretty much all of them, as well as the women. They just keep it on the down-low, unlike stars of decades past.

by Anonymousreply 1December 20, 2008 1:30 AM

Exactly R1.

The question should be "Which Male Celebs AREN'T Smokers?"

by Anonymousreply 2December 20, 2008 1:44 AM

I disagree with R1 & R2 - there are certainly some who like to keep it a secret, but to say that almost all of them smoke is ridiculous

by Anonymousreply 3December 20, 2008 1:45 AM

Brad Pitt, Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise...

by Anonymousreply 4December 20, 2008 3:04 AM

I own this thread, bitches!

by Anonymousreply 5December 20, 2008 3:44 AM

Tom Cruise smokes? That is very surprising to me. He strikes me of having classic anhedonia, the inability to experience pleasure in anything. Those people would not understand the sublime experience (at first) of smoking.

by Anonymousreply 6December 20, 2008 4:01 AM

At the risk of stating the obvious, Sean Penn.

by Anonymousreply 7December 20, 2008 4:03 AM

Shia LeDouche, Barack Obama, Ben Affleck, Kevin Spacey, Gale Harold (at least he did when doing QAF in Toronto)

by Anonymousreply 8December 20, 2008 4:06 AM

Ewan McGregor, Gerard Butler, Cameron Diaz, Noah Wiley, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, Olivier Martinez.

by Anonymousreply 9December 20, 2008 4:07 AM

I don't think George Clooney smokes and I can't remember him ever smoking for a film/TV role. He certainly could have smoked in that movie about Edward R. Murrow....just about everyone else in the cast did.

I've worked with Hugh Jackman and he does not smoke, at least at that time. Also worked with Viggo Mortensen and he does....a lot, unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 10December 20, 2008 4:13 AM

Obama, Bruce Willis, Desi Arnaz, Ronnie Raygun

by Anonymousreply 11December 20, 2008 4:16 AM

Poor illiterate R9 unable to distinguish male from female celebs. I would like to take up a collection but I just don't have the time.

by Anonymousreply 12December 20, 2008 4:18 AM

SJP is a big smoker. Her hubby also smokes but not nearly as much as she does.

by Anonymousreply 13December 20, 2008 4:38 AM

Michael Landon and Victor French - 5 PACKS A DAY!

by Anonymousreply 14December 20, 2008 4:42 AM

Marco Dapper.

OK, he only did one movie, but still.

by Anonymousreply 15December 20, 2008 4:43 AM

SJP, Broderick, Paltrow and Affleck all stopped smoking when they became parents. Sorry to burst your bubbles.

by Anonymousreply 16December 20, 2008 4:51 AM

Uh...I thought the OP said MALE.

by Anonymousreply 17December 20, 2008 4:53 AM

Yet another thread that asks which male celebrity is a Friend of Fellatio.

by Anonymousreply 18December 20, 2008 5:17 AM

Robbie Williams smokes like a chimney.

Slash from Guns n' Roses did, I don't know if he quit or not.

Eddie Cahill and Carmine Giovanazzo from CSI: NY

George Eads used to.

Angus and Malcolm Young of AC/DC

Jorja Fox smokes heavily, but I know you're not interested in people of the vag.

by Anonymousreply 19December 20, 2008 5:35 AM

I agree with R1 and R2: I would bet that a clear majority of actors (and actresses) smoke, even some that seem to epitomize beauty and health.

I KNOW the OP asked for males, but here's a tiny sample of female celebs, who seem (to the masses anyway) so "beautiful", but smoke like a chimney:

Paris Hilton, Gisele Bundchen, Jennifer Aniston, Christina Applegate, Katie Holmes, Victoria Beckham, Kate Hudson, Catherine Zeta Jones, Cameron Diaz, Whoopi Goldberg (heavy), Alicia Silverstone, LIsa Kudrow, Julia Roberts, Natalie Portman, Darryl Hannah, Shirley MacLaine, Demi Moore, Penelope Cruz, Charleze Theron, Neve Campbell and on and on and on......

I'm sure males smoke just as much if not more.

by Anonymousreply 20December 20, 2008 7:02 AM

Johnny Depp and Matt McConnahey (sp) both smoke.

Clooney does smoke, as does Brad Pitt.

Also Matt LeBlanc, Kurt Russell, Billy Bob Thornton, Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, Shia LaBeouf...

by Anonymousreply 21December 20, 2008 7:25 AM

r8, gale harold is a male celebrity?

by Anonymousreply 22December 20, 2008 10:47 AM

r8, gale harold is a male celebrity?

by Anonymousreply 23December 20, 2008 10:48 AM

Ricky Martin

by Anonymousreply 24December 20, 2008 11:57 AM

Keanu Reeves

by Anonymousreply 25December 20, 2008 12:22 PM

Applegate quit after her cancer episode and Maclaine quit years ago with the help of a past life hypnotist.

by Anonymousreply 26December 20, 2008 4:27 PM

Matt Damon

by Anonymousreply 27December 20, 2008 4:50 PM

Yes Gale Harold is a male celebrity.

by Anonymousreply 28December 20, 2008 4:53 PM

Has Ben Affleck quit smoking since the birth of his child?

Matt Damon smokes, I think.

by Anonymousreply 29December 20, 2008 5:00 PM

Eddie Cahill smokes? Noooooo! I'm devastated.

I thought Damon quit, via hypnotherapy.

by Anonymousreply 30December 20, 2008 5:04 PM

Eddie Cibrian does too. Must be something about Eddies.

by Anonymousreply 31December 20, 2008 5:14 PM

Here's video of Damon talking about quitting.

Sigh: He's dreamy.

by Anonymousreply 32December 20, 2008 5:17 PM

I wouldn't be surprised if 70-75% of them smoke. It gives them 'courage' to go out on stage, helps them concentrate so they can memorize their lines, yet calm them down at the same time.

The perfect legal drug for an addict.

by Anonymousreply 33December 20, 2008 6:23 PM

"I thought Damon quit, via hypnotherapy."

Hypnotherapist: Now image two large orbs, filled with radiant light.

Matt (to himself): This is just like looking in the mirror.

by Anonymousreply 34December 20, 2008 6:24 PM

Russell Crowe

by Anonymousreply 35December 20, 2008 7:46 PM

Brat Pitt is a HEAVY, HEAVY smoker. It's gross. I've sat near him at a party. Disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 36December 20, 2008 7:54 PM

Shia LaBuff Keanu Reeves Johny Depp

by Anonymousreply 37December 20, 2008 7:57 PM

Benicio del Toro

by Anonymousreply 38December 20, 2008 10:34 PM

Brad Pitt seems like a nervous person.

In a recent interview, the interviewer described him as extremely fidgety, always tapping his finger on a surface and always jiggling a leg.

People who jiggle their leg and fidget drive me crazy.

So it wouldn't surprise me if he's a heavy smoker.

by Anonymousreply 39December 20, 2008 10:41 PM

A few who don't(at least in real life):

Denzel Washington

Hugh Jackman

Robin Williams

Steve Martin

Donald Sutherland

by Anonymousreply 40December 20, 2008 11:54 PM

Alice Cooper said Keanu started smoking when he was 3 but I think he was talking about pot.

by Anonymousreply 41December 22, 2008 4:49 AM

"He certainly could have smoked in that movie about Edward R. Murrow....just about everyone else in the cast did."

yes,he did in one scene. you realize that actors use herbal substitutes while filming?

by Anonymousreply 42December 22, 2008 4:51 AM

I was wondering if Clinton or Bush smoked?

by Anonymousreply 43December 22, 2008 4:59 AM

Clinton smokes the occasional cigar but has never smoked cigarettes. Bush smoked cigarettes when he was young but quit many years ago. Laura Bush apparently smokes like a chimney in private, though.

by Anonymousreply 44December 22, 2008 5:11 AM

The twilight vampire boy

by Anonymousreply 45December 22, 2008 5:18 AM

Smoking rates would drop dramatically if they would just trash the warning labels and replace them with a picture of Benicio del Toro.

by Anonymousreply 46December 22, 2008 6:34 AM

Benicio would inspire me to smoke!

by Anonymousreply 47December 22, 2008 6:38 AM

Does Obama still smoke?

by Anonymousreply 48December 22, 2008 9:19 AM

Does Obama still smoke?

by Anonymousreply 49December 22, 2008 9:20 AM

Alec Baldwin is a smoker.

by Anonymousreply 50December 22, 2008 10:02 AM

January Jones started up smoking (after quitting), because of all the smoking scenes on "Mad Men." Brad Pitt is SUPPOSED to have quit, but sneaks them when away from Angelina.

by Anonymousreply 51December 22, 2008 10:14 AM

by Anonymousreply 52December 22, 2008 10:15 AM

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck both allegedly quit via hypnotherapy sessions. If they're still smoking these days, they're hiding it well from the paparazzi.

Clooney was reportedly a casual smoker up until about 10 years ago or so. Numerous reports that he would bum smokes off ER crew members. Reportedly, when he took the lead in Out of Sight, he asked that the part be rewritten as a non-smoker. His reason was that he had just quit and didn't want to be tempted back. Most recent report I read, he claimed he never smoked *ever* in his life.

George Eads went to great lenghts to claim he grew his porn stach a few years back as a way to cope with his having just quit smoking. What growing a mustache and quitting smoking have to do with each other was never clear. But he didn't stay quit for long because I personally saw him lighting up upon leaving a movie theater just a few months after those reports came out.

by Anonymousreply 53December 22, 2008 1:47 PM

Jesse Metcalfe

Chace Crawford

Ed Westwick

Orlando Bloom

Elijah Wood

Chad Michael Murray

Shia LaBoeuf

Tom Welling

Jensen Ackles

Daniel Radcliffe

Matthew Fox

by Anonymousreply 54December 22, 2008 1:53 PM

James Franco started smoking in preparation for playing James Dean in the TV movie of his life a few years back.

And he kept it up. Virtually every article about him mentions his smoking.

by Anonymousreply 55December 22, 2008 1:57 PM

Ryan Phillippe said he had to quit in preparation for that film he did with Chris Cooper. Said it was especially hard since Cooper is a chain smoker.

But when the film wrapped, he immediately started lighting up again.

by Anonymousreply 56December 22, 2008 3:10 PM

Tom Cruise reportedly smoked some while married to Nicole since she is/was a smoker.

But apparently he stopped after they split. One of the requirements for his marriage to Katie Holmes was that she had to give up smoking.

by Anonymousreply 57December 22, 2008 3:13 PM

Sorry, r16

I stood next to SJP outside of Carnegie Hall before the Rufus Wainwright/Judy Garland show and she was puffing away like a fiend.

And she had already had the kid.

Who are you, her publicist?

by Anonymousreply 58December 22, 2008 3:53 PM

Michael Sheen

Hugh Laurie

Ioan Gruffudd (at least he does when he goes home to Wales)

Mark Strong (not quite a celeb by DL standards, but I know he has a few fans on here)

Jason Isaacs (tries to quit when he's around his kids, then starts up again when he goes on location)

by Anonymousreply 59December 22, 2008 4:28 PM

Viggo Mortensen

by Anonymousreply 60December 22, 2008 6:42 PM

George Clooney used to smoke, but the story goes that he quit when his aunt Rosemary got lung cancer.

SJP still smokes, no matter what she says. I've seen her out and about in NY.

Matthew Perry and Jason Bateman both smoke like chimneys, another first-hand account. They're really good at hiding it from photographers.

The Mad Men women - January Jones, Christina Hendricks and Elisabeth "Xenu" Moss all smoke. Th Mad Men actors have to smoke herbal cigarettes in their scenes because real cigarettes would violate workplace anti-smoking regulations or some such thing. I read an interview with Jon Hamm and he said the herbals actually smell and taste even worse than regular tobacco cigarettes, if you can imagine!

by Anonymousreply 61December 22, 2008 7:00 PM

Tim McGraw

Robin Thicke

John Mayer

Michael Bubblee

by Anonymousreply 62December 23, 2008 3:54 AM

Gale Harold is not a male celeb. Even James Denton said he's a girl.

by Anonymousreply 63December 23, 2008 5:47 PM

Rescue Me Steve Pasqualle is a Marlboro man. (married to Gypsy's Laura Bennanti)

by Anonymousreply 64December 23, 2008 6:05 PM

Hugh Jackman is no surprise. No wonder he looks a lot older than 40.

by Anonymousreply 65December 23, 2008 7:25 PM

r64: 97% of the country has no idea who those two are. Not everyone's lives revolve around NYC.

by Anonymousreply 66December 23, 2008 7:28 PM

Tom Welling's beautiful face will be human jerky in another 10 years if he doesn't quit the nicky!

Heavy smoker.

by Anonymousreply 67December 23, 2008 7:33 PM

Ashton Kutcher

by Anonymousreply 68December 27, 2008 11:59 AM

Okay, so these pics aren't of male celebs, but just more proof that beauty is only skin deep.

Eva Longoria?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 69December 29, 2008 6:51 PM

Elisabeth "Scientology" Moss also of MAD MEN smokes. You can catch her puffing away before entering the Barrymore stage door where she is appearing in SPEED-THE-PLOW.

by Anonymousreply 70December 29, 2008 7:18 PM

"The Mad Men actors have to smoke herbal cigarettes in their scenes because real cigarettes would violate workplace anti-smoking regulations or some such thing."

Oh, that's bullshit. Or partial bullshit. Maybe some of them don't smoke real cigarettes, but do you actually think that if a scene in a movie or television show requires an actor to smoke, that they're not allowed to by some regulations?

by Anonymousreply 71December 29, 2008 7:44 PM

I don't know if she's since quit, but Elizabeth Taylor was still puffing away as late as 1996. A friend of mine worked at San Fran General at the time, and La Liz visited for some AMFAR thing. He said she required a special private room where she could suck down ciggies without anyone photographing her, and she smoked like a chimney. And yes my friend, a huge queen, kept the paper coffee cup smeared with red lipstick that Liz used to toss her ciggie butts in. He still has it, but he threw the butts out because he complained that they were stinking up his living room LOL!

by Anonymousreply 72December 29, 2008 11:46 PM

R69, isn't that a dreadful photo of Eva Longoria?!

She is completely unrecognizable in that photo.

R62, are you certain about the four below which you list?

Tim McGraw

Robin Thicke

John Mayer

Michael Bubblee

That disappoints me about Tim McGraw and Michael Bubblee. Where did you hear or read or see this?

Many singers such a McGraw and Bubblee know enough not to smoke.

by Anonymousreply 73December 30, 2008 12:11 AM

Matthew Broderick has been interviewed as saying he has given up smoking but still falls back occasionally. He also said his wife is much worse than he is with the smoking.

If you watch any interview with SJP, she is always chewing gum. That, the fact that she's skin and bones and her skin is leathery is a good indicator that she is a heavy smoker still.

by Anonymousreply 74December 30, 2008 4:18 AM

I saw Sarah Jessica Secretariat smoking at a party as recently as October.

by Anonymousreply 75December 30, 2008 6:06 AM

r 73

Yes, am sure of each of those singers.

Have seen photos of Tim McGraw and John Mayer smoking.

Read an LA Times article about Robin Thicke and it mentioned him going out for a smoke break.

And reading a write up about an awards show two years ago (possibly the Golden Globes), it said that Michael Bubblee missed seeing his girlfriend (whoever she was) win an award because he was outside smoking at the time.

by Anonymousreply 76December 30, 2008 9:34 AM

r71 Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner made the decision that the actors would smoke herbal cigarettes on the set back when the show first went into production. That means that even real life smokers had to smoke herbal cigarettes when the scene required smoking. That was reported many places when Mad Men first premiered in summer 2007.

But it's my understanding that a tobacco vs herbal cigarette decision is at the discretion of producers and/or the director. California indoor smoking rules have lots of loopholes for TV/film productions.

For example, the actors on Good Night and Good Luck, which was filmed in California and set almost entirely indoors, smoked tobacco cigarettes. There were several reports that David Straithorn (who played Edward R. Murrow) got the prop master to roll the cigarettes his character smoked out of pipe tobacco since it was milder and thus less harsh on his throat.

by Anonymousreply 77December 30, 2008 9:45 AM

Again, I ask which male celebs aren't smokers.

Who DOESN'T smoke?

by Anonymousreply 78January 8, 2009 6:47 PM

john cusack

by Anonymousreply 79January 8, 2009 9:05 PM

Victoria Beckham is alleged to be a very heavy smoker behind closed doors.
