Surprise, surprise, he supported Prop 8.
Donny Osmond on gay marriage and all his gay friends.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | December 18, 2008 8:24 PM |
"There are many gay individuals that are members of our church. I know many of them. In fact, some of my best friends are gay. You ask how I react regarding their marriages. Well, I do support our Church leaders who say that we can accept those with gay tendencies in our church as long as they do not act upon their temptations. Everyone has tenancies to succumb to temptation, but we all have the same standard given to us by our Father in Heaven. Whether we may be tempted to be immoral with members of our own sex or of the opposite sex, we are expected to live chaste lives. This is very well explained not only in the Book of Mormon, but in the Bible as well.
"You see, the whole beauty of God's plan is that we all have our free agency to live our lives the way we want to live them. Personally, I believe in the words stated above and that they came from a living prophet, so I abide by them.
"We all determine for ourselves what is right and what is not right for our own lives and how we live God's commandments. I am not a judge and I will never judge anyone for the decisions they make unless they are causing harm to another individual. I love my friends, including my gay friends. We are all God's children. It is their choice, not mine on how they conduct their lives and choose to live the commandments according to the dictates of their own conscience. I hope this helps.
Sincerely, Donny Osmond."

And Donny, none of your so-called gay friends are still in your sick, cult church. They would have long since been excommunicated with that evil, demon, disgusting smile and a handshake as they kick you in the nuts as they tell you to get the hell out.

"Some of my best friends are gay" is the new catchphrase of the homophobes, in the same way as "some of my best friends are black" is the catchphrase of racists.

I am pretty confident that any gay friends Donny has are not, in fact, celibate.
The sheer number of siblings he has who have procreated in vast numbers makes me wonder which of his many nephews and neices might be gay, and whether he knows they are...

by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 1, 2008 9:04 PM |
This pisses me off. I know many religious people who "accept" me as long as I'm celibate and not in a same-sex relationship. I'm celibate (not out of religious guilt but for personal reasons I won't go into). I'm "accepted" by these people and invited to come to their churches because I'm a "good" person.
They think I've "conquered" my desires. I haven't; I'm still gay. I've told them this several times. I've also told them that I'll hopefully find a wonderful woman to share my life with and asked if I'll still be welcome then. This question is always met with silence or their insistence that I can fight my "demons" and find a nice guy to settle down with. I always counter this will never happen.
These people are merely acquaintances. They're not friends, and they never will be. I'm not religious, but that doesn't stop them from trying to convert me. As long as I don't act on my desires these people think I"m swell. As soon as I act, they'll be the first to point fingers at me. They're like Donny Osmond.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 1, 2008 9:08 PM |
The first thing any anti-gay bigot does is claim to have many Gays friends. This is exactly what Anne Coutler AND Mel Gibson did.
But we never see these "gay friends", they are imaginary.
What terrible human beings Donny and Marie Osmond are. 50 years ago, they would be fighting for racial segregation.

Mormons "accept" gay people as long as they don't act on it. Of course, they're encouraged to resist "temptation" and find a nice person of the opposite sex to have a family with. It's sick.

No, r34. Dalliances are not quietly tolerated. Gays are expected to either be celibate or get married (obviously to someone of the opposite sex) and spawn. That's it. Married, gay Mormon men of course troll Craig's List for the homosex when they're on business trips. Married, lesbian Mormons are just screwed and not in a good way. As a rule, Mormon women stay home and care for the home and kids while the hubby works.

Steve Young and his wife opposed Prop 8.
See Hendrik Hertzberg's Talk of the Town piece in last week's New Yorker:
"A couple of days before the California vote, the San Francisco Chronicles John Wildermuth noticed a No on Prop 8 sign on a front lawn. The lawn and the sign belonged to Steve Young, the football Hall of Famer and former 49er quarterback, and his wife, Barb. Steve Young is a graduate of Brigham Young University, which is named for his great great great grandfather. The Youngs still belong to the Mormon Church. We believe all families matter and we do not believe in discrimination, Barb Young said. Therefore, our family will vote against Prop 8. It wasnt enough this time. But the time is coming."

[italic]In fact, some of my best friends are gay. You ask how I react regarding their marriages. Well, I do support our Church leaders who say that we can accept those with gay tendencies in our church as long as they do not act upon their temptations.[/italic]
Why is it people automatically assume the word "gay" equates to sex acts? Why do they write people off as a sex act instead of an identity?
What's it his business if someone drops their pants in their own home? Is he saying they shouldn't succumb to temptation in church, because since nobody clearly HAS had sex in his church in front of him, what is his argument about? "Gay" is an identity not a sex act.
If I talked about straights in terms of sex acts instead of flesh and blood people with individual identities and consistently told them not to act on temptation and bone over the photocopier, people would soon think I was a freak, and a nosey, fetish freak at that.

I'd like to know why he obviously views any straight sex act, including bigotry, underage sex with girls and straight orgies/wife-swapping, plus sex just to trap partners and have babies and stay home forever - perhaps even rape - as acceptable, but two consensual same-sex partners who may have been together for years cannot have sex in their own home because that's "temptation".

I don't believe in "God's plan" and prophets and bibles. I believe in hard facts like the Earth being 4.5 billion years old and events based on natural selection according to environment. I don't believe in a book that wants to dumb people down and rein them in with prejudice and misgivings and ludicrous assumption, all because there was no TV 2 thousand years ago and bored/frustrated/high as kites people wrote shit to frighten themself to death and create tribal boundaries and lasting conflicts for whatever reason, using mighty invisible deities as a cover story.
