‘Yeti blood oath’ divides Denver seminary

‘A well-intended moment, it clearly went badly wrong and never should have happened.’

[quote] A group of seminarians studying at Denver’s St. John Vianney Theological Seminary were taken on the trip in January 2024 by then-vice rector of the seminary, Fr. John Nepil, during which they were woken in the middle of the night and invited individually to swear a “blood oath” in a ceremony involving a dagger and a man in a yeti costume.

A photo, for reference.

Recruit fratty straight boys and this is what you get. What's next, panty raids?

by Anonymousreply 2July 17, 2025 1:56 PM

Father Nepil could do a frat prank on me. Preferably one where he slaps me with his dick.

by Anonymousreply 3July 17, 2025 1:58 PM

What a strange prank. But really, getting so worked up to this degree is silly.

by Anonymousreply 4July 17, 2025 2:06 PM

Ooh, that voice.

Dude, let's celebrate mass while we're white-water rafting! Fuck, yeah! Woo-hoo!

by Anonymousreply 6July 17, 2025 2:29 PM

The craziest part, to me, is that they retaliated against a guy who didn't want to participate. They kicked him out of the seminary for a "human year."

[quote] Archdiocesan sources familiar with the events also told The Pillar that one of the seminarians refused to participate in the ceremony, according to two separate accounts.

[quote]The Pillar has since confirmed that the seminarian was subsequently placed on a “human year” sabbatical by formators. Although several sources close to the seminary all stressed that the seminarian was told his effective suspension from seminary was for unrelated reasons, others disputed this, and called the seminarian’s exclusion “creative dismissal.”

[quote]Yetis are from Nepal, right? Is that where Fr. Nepil is from? I think we should look into that angle.

This comment under the article just blew my mind.

[quote]This is a long comments section. If everyone in it spends 5 additional minutes today praying for priests, think of what a poke in the eye that would be for the enemy, who is a big fan of long comment threads because of the near occasions for sins that they present. Let's do it, team Pillar Readers.

This fucking Bridget frau in the comments who says she was groomed is too much. And most of the comments are hers!

by Anonymousreply 9July 17, 2025 6:25 PM

How...abominable.

Sounds like a homosexual music band.

by Anonymousreply 11July 17, 2025 6:26 PM

r8/r9 -- LOL I didn't even look at the comments! Going back to do that now...

[quote] The archdiocese confirmed to The Pillar in its statement that the investigation had included “a proactive consultation with an exorcist, out of an abundance of caution, due to potential spiritual harm from such oaths.”

I have found a photograph of the exorcist!

The comment was a tongue in cheek response to this one:

[quote] Truly Abominable!

[quote] Yetis are from Nepal, right? Is that where Fr. Nepil is from? I think we should look into that angle.

So, it was a joke.

Playing soggy biscuit was the next step in their hazing.

R15 Goodness, I need tp join that order!

by Anonymousreply 16July 17, 2025 9:38 PM

Fundie Protestants already think Catholicism is a cult, so thanks for making us look even weirder, Father Fratboy.

by Anonymousreply 17July 17, 2025 9:50 PM

Father Nepil should know better. Yeti oaths don't involve blood, but they do involve a lot of semen.

r14 I thought so at first, but looking around at the other comments, I'm not so sure. Everyone seems so earnest there.
