Omnipresent AI cameras will ensure good behavior, says Larry Ellison
New CEO of Paramount, everyone.
[quote]On Thursday, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison shared his vision for an AI-powered surveillance future during a company financial meeting. Ellison, who briefly became the world's second-wealthiest person last week when his net worth surpassed Jeff Bezos' for a short time, outlined a scenario where AI models would analyze footage from security cameras, police body cams, doorbell cameras, and vehicle dash cams.
[quote]"Citizens will be on their best behavior because we are constantly recording and reporting everything that's going on," Ellison said, describing what he sees as the benefits from automated oversight from AI and automated alerts for when crime takes place. "We're going to have supervision. Every police officer is going to be supervised at all times, and if there's a problem, AI will report the problem and report it to the appropriate person."

Fucking disgusting. The end of feeling solitude anywhere outside your own house. I used to go to a park near my house to meditate in the woods. Last year there were some illegal dumping incidents in the park and so the county put up surveillance and trail cams.
It just makes things fundamentally different. The idea of getting "away" and being by yourself is slipping away. Some people go out to the woods to get away from constant surveillance environments like their workplace or neighborhood. It is just sad that one can't just get the fuck away from everything. One a year I go for a solo weekend retreat where I write and play music, walk in the woods, and shit in an old outhouse. I'm afraid I'm gonna lose that solitude.

I never heard good things about Oracle's corporate culture and how they handle their employees. Pretty 'hardcore' as Elon Musk puts it. I hope this flies well in an arts & entertainment company. OTOH, David Ellison is used to work with creative individuals. So I am really curious how this all develops.

My cousin was laid off in June. He got a job as in tech support a few weeks ago. It's WFH but they expect him to leave his camera on for the entire shift. Not only can his leads listen to his calls (normal in that line of work) they can watch him. They see him leave his desk for the bathroom. They monitor his facial expressions. They DM him 'guidance' when he's handling 3 chats at the same time and they are spying on him. He quit last week but felt so guilty. My jaw was on the floor as he told described the job. Can you imagine what they could do if they can normalize that for all employees?

To add - the job was barely over min wage and their explanation was the same as Ellison. That it improved agent 'focus' and incentivized 'good performance.'

My indoor camera turned on one time while I was jacking off. I saw the red light. I’m like oh well.

Where I used to work, except for the bathroom, you were on camera your whole time there. Fortunately they sell clothes that block AI cameras.
