RFK Jr and Nicole Shanahan don't seem to understand is that Democratic voters don't like them, don't agree with them and don't want them in the race.
Yes, the Democratic Party do view them as spoilers, but this is not the full story. RFK JR and Nicole Shanahan are highly disliked for their political viewpoints. The Democratic Party would prefer that Jill Stein not be in the race. And in 2000, the Democratic Party preferred that Ralph Nadar not be in the race, but there hasn't been the amount of animosity toward Stein and Nadar as there has been toward RFK Jr. We don't like him. We don't agree with him. RFK Jr simply wants to believe that this "spoiler" excuse is the only reason. It's not. We don't like him.

RFK Jr's net worth, including his wife who played Larry David's wife in Curb, is estimated to be only $15mm. He cannot support the lifestyle to which he believes he's entitled. He's not Caroline Schlossberg who appears to be quite wealthy. RFK had 11 children. JFK had two, plus Jackie's money from Onasis, plus it sounds like she inherited the bulk of JFK Jr's estate, not Caroline's family.
Of course, he's taking money from somewhere because he has few options to make money.

That September, he was charged with heroin possession in Rapid City, South Dakota. He pleaded guilty to a single felony charge of possession of heroin in February 1984, whereupon he was sentenced to two years of probation and community service. He originally faced a potential sentence of two years in prison.

What you fail to recognize is that we have a two-party system in which the Democrats have to not only fight big pharma and corporations but their colleagues in Congress in order to get anything done. Add in human nature — greed — and it's almost impossible for any major legislation to pass, but here we are with Democrats obtaining the first real victories against big pharma since forever with a price cap of $35 a month for insulin and a yearly cap of $2000 for drugs for seniors, a goal we've been working toward since the Carter years.

The amount of money received is damn-near an even split. But you people actually trust these individuals to affect positive change in this country? It's senseless. They're bought and paid for. And when they aren't, their campaigns are sabotaged by their own parties. This country is run by psychopaths and supported by the deaf, blind, and dumb who believe their lies.

R53, it is frustrating that we have a system in which corporate and dark money has a stranglehold on our politicians, but we must live in reality. If Democrats didn't take money from big pharma, they would be at a strategic disadvantage to the point of never being elected to anything, not even dog catcher. Nevertheless, here we are with the first meaningful strike against drug companies in decades with a resolution that is saving tens of $billions, saving seniors' lives, and an opening for further advances in reining in the price of drugs.

r52 Bro. This was from Trump's EO 13937 signed on 7/24/2020 which was scheduled to go into effect on January 22, 2021. Biden used an EO to freeze the order along with everything else Trump put in place and then finally allowed it to pass in 2023. Why are you letting them play in your face like this?? Now, there is a lot of other shit that the Reps fuck up when it comes to healthcare, SS (raising the retirement age to 70), but this is not the flex you seem to think it is.
[quote]An important caveat to note is that Executive Order 13937, issued by Trump, had not yet been put into law. Though it was published in the federal register on Dec. 23, 2020, the order was not scheduled to go into effect until Jan. 22, 2021 — two days after Biden issued a freeze on all rules made by Trump that were not yet in effect.

Basically, the Biden administration expanded it to cover more seniors on Medicare. That's it. It's almost like neither party is allowed to go over a certain price. Surely the pharma companies didn't negotiate a single price and dangle dollars of campaign funds before politicians looking to stay in power? That's just crazy-talk.

The downsides really outweigh the upsides and it would present very questionable value.

by Anonymous | reply 80 | August 21, 2024 9:58 PM |
Here's the output of the poster who's attacking Dems and soft-selling Trump on this thread:
R28, R40, R48, R50, R53, R64, R65, R67, R68
It's worth pointing out that this account was one of three that appeared back in 2022 cosplaying as black conservatives. The other two have been redlined ([ 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥 𝟓𝟗𝟗𝟑 ], aka 'Black Millennial, and [ 𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥 𝟔𝟎𝟎𝟎 ]). But this one assumed a low profile for awhile and escaped censure.
Originally, this one along with its wingman accounts, kept promoting Black Israelites. From the 2022 thread, 𝐁𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥: 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐬 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐬 "𝐩𝐬𝐲𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐞":
[quote]Ok then. Here's a fun and controversial answer: Black people (specifically those descended from slaves) are the original Jews, belonging to "the tribe of Judah" and those who call themselves Jews today (including those in Israel) are imposters who all belong to "a synagogue of Satan." GO!
This one tried to distinguish itself from the other two accounts by claiming to be a conservative black woman, supposedly married to a wealthy conservative white man who's somebody in politics (ostensibly modeled on something like Candace Owens and George Farmer), but gradually stopped making these claims, and began claiming to be a member of the US military (later occasionally addressing me as "Sir"). Presumably it was still identifying as a conservative black woman, but no longer typically put these claims into play in arguments.
In April 2024, it waded into a thread (𝐊𝐲𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐒𝐨 𝐏𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐔𝐒𝐌𝐂 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐞’𝐬 ‘𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐋𝐘’ 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧), where it defended Kyle Rittenhouse, claming "He acted in self-defense," and that "He ran to the people who supported and embraced him. If the left didn't want that to happened, maybe...hear me out...they shouldn't have shit on him (and continue to) from day one." It was in this thread it made the military claims about itself.
And it's selling right-wing arguments here on this thread, just without any of the personal identification claims (so far).

No idea, R85. But it's evidently a favorite pasttime of conservative trolls.
Around 2016, I used to frequently encounter Yahoo troll accounts claiming to be conservative black women 'with a PhD,' supposedly married to a wealthy white conservative politician, sporting usernames like 'Einsteinetta,' 'Desiree,' and the like. There are also (how many I don't know, but I wonder), a number of people would have seen the name "Kennedy", and voted for someone thinking of JFK (mistakenly). I would imagine these people would now vote for Harris.

On Pod Saves America they were saying that Cheryl is very much against RFK endorsing Trump and that there is tension between her and Nicole. Who knows if she could actually influence his decision or not though.

Oh, resident troll R53/whatever you call yourself:
[quote][R52] Bro. This was from Trump's EO 13937 signed on 7/24/2020 which was scheduled to go into effect on January 22, 2021.
I'm not an expert in Executive Orders, but I have never heard of an outgoing POTUS issue one in the waning days of his administration that would only take effect [italic]after[/italic] he'd left office. Before you crow about Trump's magnanimity, recall that Trump created a series of messes that he dumped in Biden's lap, from the shit show that was our withdrawal from Afghanistan (further recalling that Trump invited the Taliban to Camp David on the anniversary of 9/11, he freed 5000 of the Taliban and al Queda's worst, and he handed our enemies in the Middle East literally $billions of abandoned equipment and supplies; it was, in a word, capitulation) to the shit show that was Covid, to the shit show that was the worst attack on democracy since the Civil War.
Trump's MO is chaos. I have no doubt that whatever was in EO 13937 contained poison pills, gifts to big Pharma, and enough caveats to choke a horse. Bro.

r101 Bold of you to contest something that you admittedly didn't even read. This is why I don't take most of you people on here seriously.
Trump's EO rule officially went into effect in July of 2021 but was never implemented. The HHS asked for it to be rescinded because of lack of administrative resources to support patients at federally funded health centers (read: low healthcare staffing). This is where the HHS had an issue and proposed or rescission. The Biden administration rescinded the portion of the rule that required more administrative support at federally funded health centers but the portion of the plan that covered insulin prices being capped at $35 remained in place. Biden expanded upon it so that it covered more patients.
The Trump EO was temporarily frozen in January 2021 (when it was indeed scheduled to go into effect initially), went into effect in July of 2021, had a portion of it rescinded by Biden to lessen the administrative burden on federally funded health centers while keeping the portion on insulin price caps at $35 and expanding that coverage to even more seniors. Basically, Biden and Trump worked together on the insulin price cap.
[quote]I'm not an expert in Executive Orders, but I have never heard of an outgoing POTUS issue one in the waning days of his administration that would only take effect after he'd left office.
I totally believe you're not an expert on EO. But, that's exactly what the hell happened, sooo...
[quote]Pursuant to the January 20, 2021, memorandum from the Assistant to the President and Chief of Staff, entitled “Regulatory Freeze Pending Review,” and OMB Memorandum M-21-14, [bold]the effective date of the “Implementation of Executive Order on Access to Affordable Life-Saving Medications” rule, published in the December 23, 2020, Federal Register (85 FR 83822), was delayed from January 22, 2021, to March 22, 2021 (86 FR 7069), to give HHS officials the opportunity for further review and consideration of the rule.[/bold]

Also, both Biden and Trump exaggerated this insulin accomplishment, anyway. The out of pocket cost for insulin users who have Medicare was costing about $37/mo on average. Those without insurance paid (and continue to pay) about $84/mo because neither plan covers uninsured Americans.
So, the insulin "price cap accomplishment" is hardly anything to brag about, let alone fight over "who did it first." Trump is literally whining about not being given credit for saving roughly half of America's diabetic patients a whopping $2/mo for insulin. That's what that price cap accomplished. 2 whole fucking dollars. Yeah, we're really winning as a nation.

Another ad, for more heavily Jewish areas, should be how, after Trump scrapped the Iran nuclear deal, one his own defense secretary testified before Congress Iran was largely honoring, Iran is now so very close to having nuclear capabilities. Like the overwhelming number of Orthodox Jews, my niece, who converted in adulthood, believes Trump is "better for the Jewish people."

This seems like a toxic lose-lose endorsement for both parties. Honestly, unless Trump is dumping Vance for worm brain I don’t see how this has an upside for either one of them.

Brainiac troll R53/R105, you provide no example nor evidence that any other EO has been issued by an outgoing president to take effect [italic]only after[/italic] his term ended. Good to know, bro.
You further admit and provide evidence that the EO was not thoughtfully prepared, vetted by the people who would be responsible for implementing it — you know, the cabinet officials sitting by Trump's side — nor even examined as to how and if it could be implemented, before it was proposed and signed. Good to know.
Clearly, despite not being an expert in executive orders, I claimed there were elements in the EO that were problematic and made it exactly what it was, a mere show meant to deceive the masses... and like clockwork despite all of the issues raised with his purposefully flawed EO, he is trying to take credit for Biden and Harris' accomplishment. You proved my point by enumerating the reasons the EO had to be delayed and eventually scrapped for the legislation that the Democrats passed to limit the out-of-pocket costs for Insulin. Good to know.
And after saying that we owe Trump the credit for capping the price of insulin and not Biden — which you clearly disprove — you claim that it's really no big deal after all. Good to know.
R53, there's a rock out there with your name on it; crawl back under because you're nothing but a troll, bro.

Obviously this was in exchange for some kind of "promise" from Trump of a position in the cabinet or the like. RFK Jr was blatantly selling his endorsement to either party a week or two ago, and Trump, as being in the more desperate position right now, took him up on it.

r115 Wtf? Are you deficient in some way? I literally posted a .gov link that shows you the EO that was originally scheduled to go into effect after Trump was already out (Jan. 22, 2021). It eventually did go into effect July 2021 but was never implemented. So, that there is an example of an outgoing president's EO going into effect after his term ended.
[quote]You proved my point by enumerating the reasons the EO had to be delayed and eventually scrapped for [bold]the legislation that the Democrats passed to limit the out-of-pocket costs for Insulin.[/bold]
Yeah, being in a cult clearly eviscerates one's ability to think critically and properly analyze facts presented directly to their face. Baby, Biden did not scrap the portion of the rule that limited the out-of-pocket cost for insulin when it went into effect in July of 2021. That implementation remained in effect. What was scrapped was the portion that would've required more administrative work at federally funded heath centers. There was even a fact-check about this when, wait for it, REPUBLICANS, were trying to claim that Biden scrapped the portion of the EO that capped insulin at $35 (see below).
You are also purposefully (or blindly?) misrepresented what I said. I made it clear that both Trump and Biden essentially worked together on the insulin price cap and that Biden expanded it so it covered more seniors on Medicare.
I then made it clear in another post that the overall out-of-pocket cost with the cap is not that big of a savings because the average annual out-of-pocket cost of insulin for seniors on Medicare was $452/year. That's roughly $37/mo. The $35 price cap which, again, was indeed in the EO Trump signed and never scrapped by Biden but expanded upon, only saves these people about $2/mo. Therefore, either party and its supporters trying to claim this as a victory is silly. You're all silly. You also see and interpret facts how YOU want to because that's what "partisan-cult brain" does to a person, I guess.

This is OT, but even $35 is too much money for a medicine that costs around $4 to make. It should be no more than $15. I take a thyroid pill and statin and they cost me about $8 each.
