Ben Platt Releases Vulnerable New Single 'Andrew' Accompanied by a Heart-Wrenching Music Video

The music video flashes between Platt singing in iridescent blue lighting and clips of a high school boy gazing at his crush from a distance, while he flirts with other teenage girls.

He is the definition of "not sexy."

by Anonymousreply 1March 16, 2024 1:58 AM

Why does he have 2 jackets on in the photo?

by Anonymousreply 2March 16, 2024 2:07 AM

"Layers, Rose!"

by Anonymousreply 3March 16, 2024 4:08 AM

He's so sensitive that he needs lots of padding, R2.

by Anonymousreply 4March 16, 2024 4:23 AM

This thread should be better than “Cats”!

by Anonymousreply 5March 16, 2024 4:38 AM

The filtering on the voice is distracting. Is the entire song "double tracked"?

by Anonymousreply 6March 16, 2024 4:40 AM

Sorry, but I have to read that as “bulnerable” because of “Zorro the Gay Blade”

and now I need a break from Ben and I remember how great George Hamilton is as an actor

by Anonymousreply 7March 16, 2024 4:56 AM

It’s sweet. I liked Evan Hansen.

by Anonymousreply 8March 16, 2024 5:15 AM

Based on the picture at OP I feel like I would have a better life with him than I do with my OCD husband. I’m sure he doesn’t care about how the canned goods in the cupboard are arranged. He probably won’t beat me either.

by Anonymousreply 9March 16, 2024 5:25 AM

Is that Emma Stone's brother playing the young Ben?

by Anonymousreply 10March 16, 2024 5:27 AM

Sweet?

by Anonymousreply 11March 16, 2024 6:02 AM

If I’m forced to say something nice about this ,well at least he had his neck beard cleaned up for the photo shoot.

by Anonymousreply 12March 16, 2024 6:06 AM

Ben you’re 30. Stop doing high school.

by Anonymousreply 13March 16, 2024 8:09 AM

R13 that's my reservation about the video + song. It's supposed to be bittersweet but watching it I felt pushed into a kind of pervy position - meaning I don't need to see this reenactment, set to melodramatic music. I know gay kids get crushes but please let them have their privacy without a leering adult camera.

by Anonymousreply 14March 16, 2024 2:31 PM

Are they still trying to make this guy a thing?

by Anonymousreply 15March 16, 2024 2:40 PM

Something that absolutely no one asked for, a Ben Platt album.

by Anonymousreply 16March 16, 2024 2:43 PM

I like Ben. I saw him in Parade on Broadway last year. I think he is very talented, I like his voice, and he makes interesting choices, which takes a certain amount of courage.

by Anonymousreply 17March 16, 2024 3:00 PM

For some reason I expected the young Ben to also have a beard.

by Anonymousreply 18March 16, 2024 3:23 PM

Why did they cast Ellen Page in that video?

by Anonymousreply 19March 16, 2024 3:41 PM

Hairy shoulders will never be "in."

by Anonymousreply 20March 16, 2024 3:43 PM

I’m an old guy, but thinking Ben Platt is “cringe” just works for me.

by Anonymousreply 21March 16, 2024 3:44 PM

Is he still trying for a music career? Sorry, but these Broadway performers, like Ben, Lea Michelle, Renee Rapp, Idina Menzel, Anthony Ramos and Leslie Odom, Jr., will never have successful music careers. They've all flopped spectacularly. These people need to stick to Broadway and stop embarrassing themselves.

by Anonymousreply 22March 16, 2024 3:44 PM

Bless his heart.

by Anonymousreply 23March 16, 2024 3:47 PM

Nepo baby

by Anonymousreply 24March 16, 2024 3:48 PM

Ben looks like he is having seizures as he sings.

by Anonymousreply 25March 16, 2024 3:50 PM

He wore acrylic nails and HAD to mention Evan Hansen when he was a judge on Drag Race. He’s just…oppressive.

by Anonymousreply 26March 16, 2024 3:50 PM

Or passing a particularly hard stool, R25.

by Anonymousreply 27March 16, 2024 3:50 PM

R17 and this song from his heart is the wrong choice—treacle without any actual courage. He’s a little past his prime for this…when I was his “video age,” I was already sneaking into porn shops or shoplifting Playgirls for real men.

Oy—what a dessicated wallflower.

by Anonymousreply 28March 16, 2024 3:56 PM

Ew.

That is all.

by Anonymousreply 29March 16, 2024 3:57 PM

Andrew is fug. It would be more believable if he and his friends beat up frog boy.

by Anonymousreply 30March 16, 2024 3:57 PM

Andrew is Heartstopper!

And Dickwilter! The end.

by Anonymousreply 31March 16, 2024 3:59 PM

Is he still with that awful elf?

by Anonymousreply 32March 16, 2024 4:00 PM

Platt has been shoving his "vulnerability" in our faces for several years now. His entire first CD was full of "I'm just soooo sensitive. You have to love me" snowflake songs. He needs to grow the fuck up.

by Anonymousreply 33March 16, 2024 5:49 PM

33 posts. He’s DONE.

by Anonymousreply 34March 18, 2024 3:16 AM

Do you think he has pimples on his ass? I’m pretty confident.

by Anonymousreply 35March 18, 2024 3:30 AM

Between a Broadway-blessed voice and emotional lyrics, Ben Platt has quickly cemented himself as one of the most inventive LGBTQ+ singer-songwriters. While his first record leaned into his showtunes repertoire and his sophomore album planted itself on the dance floor, his upcoming third LP Honeymind (due out May 31) seems to be something completely different.

In plaintive lead single “Andrew,” Platt embraces Simon & Garfunkel-esque melodies to recount a childhood crush on a boy and the complicated feelings of navigating sexuality in the middle school hallways. It’s tender, delicate, and maybe a little optimistic, whetting our appetite for what’s next to come.

by Anonymousreply 36March 18, 2024 3:31 AM

Sure, Rose

Is this a love song to Andrew Garfield?

by Anonymousreply 38March 18, 2024 3:56 AM

What is wrong with this country? Why are disgusting black rappers preferred over wholesome white singers with actual talent?

Cardi B, this is what I have to say to your Wet A$$ Pu$$y! 🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Make white music popular again!

by Anonymousreply 39March 18, 2024 4:13 AM

Go back to your cave^

by Anonymousreply 40March 18, 2024 4:45 AM

There's something about the way Broadway singers sing pop tunes which is offputting.

They don't just sing a song; they SING the song like it's a vocal lesson being critiqued. Even when they try not to do it, there is still that same quality.

by Anonymousreply 41March 18, 2024 4:56 AM

Have you seen his album cover?

r42 Funny how he talks about the "love of my life" but avoids actually naming Noah..

by Anonymousreply 43March 18, 2024 5:28 AM

Noah is a fugly little twerp. I’d avoid naming him too.

by Anonymousreply 44March 18, 2024 9:33 AM

Pas intéressé

by Anonymousreply 45March 18, 2024 9:35 AM

Who is his audience?

by Anonymousreply 46March 18, 2024 10:09 AM

“YOU MUST LOVE ME!”

He looks unclean and acne ridden.

by Anonymousreply 47March 18, 2024 11:03 AM

Ben says the album was inspired by a hike he took with his fianceé, Noah Galvin.

"One day I ate some mushroom chocolate and went on a hike with the love of my life," Platt shared on Instagram. "As we walked and took in our surroundings, he could see how happy I was and asked me to describe the feeling. I looked up at the ceiling of treetops, hundreds of rays of golden light were pouring through all the tiny gaps in the leaves like a shimmering pattern.

I thought about how to describe to him that I was just so happy to be in love with him. That my love for him somehow softens things and slows it all down. Like all the jagged thoughts and fears and anxieties always jutting out in my brain are slowly smoothed out, until my whole mind is thickly coated and dripping with pervading warmth and sweetness.

'I'd call it Honeymind', I said instinctively. 'You give me Honeymind.'"

by Anonymousreply 48March 18, 2024 1:58 PM

Sounds like he had some hippy shrooms.

What does this even mean? A "vulnerable" new single? OP sounds like a shill for whoever this person is

by Anonymousreply 50March 18, 2024 2:20 PM

Each copy comes with a complimentary sample of Nair.

by Anonymousreply 51March 18, 2024 2:29 PM

I like this video, I like this song. It speaks to the experience all of us have had with unrequited crushes on straight guys. Luckily this one does not end with bullying or violence. The artist is handsome and reminds me of Art Garfunkel with the sensitivity he portrays.

by Anonymousreply 52March 18, 2024 2:30 PM

“he could see how happy I was and asked me to describe the feeling”

If someone asked me this, my happiness would immediately turn to irritation 😂

Good for them though.

by Anonymousreply 53March 18, 2024 2:37 PM

The music video is like an episode of Degrassi Junior High. He sings well though.

by Anonymousreply 54March 18, 2024 2:42 PM

R41 They have been classically trained and it is very hard for someone like that to sing pop. Mariah managed to find her way to it but you can also see in her first vision of love performances from 1990 that she didn't sound like a pop singer at that point yet either. Ben needs pop vocal lessons.

by Anonymousreply 55March 18, 2024 6:45 PM

R52 that was a fun parody post. Got more!

by Anonymousreply 56March 18, 2024 6:46 PM

"We're having Barfaroni.

"It's made from macaroni!"

by Anonymousreply 57March 18, 2024 7:04 PM

Ya know, I was full on ready to hate it, but I got charmed.

We all went through that when we were kids.

It does, though, remind me (sonically and thematically) quite a bit of this one from a few years ago....

He sucked in " Dear Evan Hanson". WTF were they thinking getting a 30 something to play an 18yr old. Well, I guess HW does it all the time but he sucked.

by Anonymousreply 67March 19, 2024 1:36 AM

[quote]Is this the new format for The View?

They have been doing some interviews in front of the desk for a more informal atmosphere.

by Anonymousreply 68March 19, 2024 2:09 AM

Platt's appearance on The View Mon March 18 was nauseating. Every other sentence was "My queer life this and my queer life that." And "My queerness" and "my partner and my queerness together."

STFU. No one cares about your queerness. You're gay. Plain and simple, gay.

by Anonymousreply 69March 19, 2024 4:29 AM

I think it’s funny the way he pretends that DEH movie didn’t just SUCK HARD but was mercilessly ridiculed. Yet he still carries on like he’s some beloved mainstream talent.

You know his father probably pays for these albums to be produced. I doubt there’s any A&R involved at all.

Normally I like hairy young(ER) guys, but he just leaves me cold. And I’ve only seen him sing on the Tony awards and ads for that super annoying musical.

I thought Ben Platt was ok, if both overly intense and under-emotional, in The Politician, and I skipped Evan Hanson.

But he was fantastic singing Nights On Broadway for the Kennedy Center Honors. I never knew he performed so well.
