Hold me DL! I just ordered Indian Room Service…

… while in Delhi. “Sunday Mutton Curry” and when asked, I asked for it “medium-hot”. Should I be worried? Terrified?

I don’t usually mind spice, so I’m looking forward to some authentic flavor but am worried I may have ordered TOO much flavor. I did order garlic naan, so hopefully that will take the bite out of it if necessary. And a coke.

Can we have your stuff OP?

by Anonymousreply 1September 4, 2023 1:27 PM

And then she died.

by Anonymousreply 2September 4, 2023 3:14 PM

Are you in a major hotel chain or a smaller independent one, e.g., are they used to foreigners or do the primarily cater to Indians.

If the latter, you in danger, guuurl.

by Anonymousreply 3September 4, 2023 3:15 PM

Stealth scat thread.

by Anonymousreply 4September 4, 2023 3:16 PM

Can I have your stuff-- the stuff without explosive diarrhea specks all over it?

by Anonymousreply 5September 4, 2023 3:18 PM

OP, tell us more about Delhi. Are you on vacation, a business trip? India is on my list of countries to visit in the next few years.

by Anonymousreply 6September 4, 2023 3:34 PM

just don't order steak.

by Anonymousreply 7September 4, 2023 3:37 PM

My cousin lived in India for 2 years. He said you automatically get explosive diarrhea no matter what you do in India.

by Anonymousreply 8September 4, 2023 3:46 PM

Have you bathed in the Yamuna river yet, OP?

by Anonymousreply 9September 4, 2023 3:47 PM

Delhi Belly is an undignified way to go.

by Anonymousreply 10September 4, 2023 4:00 PM

Order butter chicken next time.

by Anonymousreply 11September 4, 2023 4:02 PM

I misread the thread title as: Hold me DL! I just murdered Indian Room Service…

by Anonymousreply 12September 4, 2023 4:03 PM

OP - Is there non Indian room service in Delhi?

by Anonymousreply 13September 4, 2023 4:05 PM

Order a bowl of plain yogurt to go with it.

by Anonymousreply 14September 4, 2023 5:16 PM

Good choice on the Coke, OP.

by Anonymousreply 15September 4, 2023 6:24 PM

Maybe you should have ordered something vegetarian

by Anonymousreply 16September 5, 2023 1:30 AM

“I don’t like mutton, do you have beef?….oh I’m so sorry!”

by Anonymousreply 17September 5, 2023 2:27 AM

What should American's with delicate digestions eat when in Dehli or India, generally speaking?

by Anonymousreply 18September 5, 2023 3:05 AM

Nothing, R18 - you should head for the airport and get on the first flight home where everything is familiar.

by Anonymousreply 19September 5, 2023 3:56 AM

Don't have ice in the coke, which will certainly be from contaminated water. You'll still get explosive, but maybe not quite as bad.

by Anonymousreply 20September 5, 2023 7:37 AM

OP is probably very busy spray-painting in the bathroom.

by Anonymousreply 21September 5, 2023 7:47 AM

I am curious did they use Resolve or Glamorene to clean that up ?

A friend who travels to India frequently always sticks to vegetarian food when over there. No drama.

by Anonymousreply 23September 7, 2023 10:06 AM

Buck never would have ordered Indian room service.

by Anonymousreply 24September 7, 2023 11:48 AM

OP is posting from her mother's basement (cellar, really, but there's a shag rug on the dirt floor) in Wilkes-Barre.

by Anonymousreply 25September 7, 2023 11:54 AM

Op here. Tried posting the other day but was denied. Update to follow:

by Anonymousreply 26September 7, 2023 1:56 PM

Op why bother with all the fuss? Just cut to the chase and drink a glass of diarrhea.

by Anonymousreply 27September 7, 2023 2:08 PM

R25 is a very elaborate “this never happened” troll

Here's what I wrote Tuesday, after returning home:

The mutton curry was wonderful! It was mutton chops, tender and slow-cooked in a very flavorful, spicy-but-not-too-spicy curry with fresh spices. I thought I made a mistake not ordering the garlic naan buttered, but was happy to use it to scoop up plentiful amounts of the curry sauce.

This was my second business trip to Delhi, and I have evaded Delhi belly both times. The hotel I stay at is a large, high-end chain that is very good at catering to foreigners. This trip I ventured out to also eat at a restaurant plaza area in the same compound as my hotel.

The tips I've followed to survive include the following: 1) No fresh veg. 2) Hold a mouthful of bottled water in my mouth while showering. 3) Only use ice in alcoholic drinks... the stronger the pour the better! Ok, I may have made that last one up.

I'm looking forward to my next trip there, despite the length an ardor of the flight. I'm hoping with each successive visit I'll be able to stretch my comfort bubble and see more of the city.

by Anonymousreply 29September 7, 2023 2:09 PM

OP, they poop anywhere......

[quote]Sunday Mutton Curry

I was under the impression that they ate lamb / goat in India, not mutton.

by Anonymousreply 31September 7, 2023 4:55 PM

How were the rent boys?

by Anonymousreply 32September 7, 2023 7:14 PM

R8 I had a friend in college who studied abroad in India. She said she did not defecate for a month while there, and then when it came out it was an incredibly long string. She is probably the only one ever.

by Anonymousreply 33September 7, 2023 7:24 PM

It’s mutton. You won’t be able to taste anything but that old sheep.

by Anonymousreply 34September 7, 2023 8:05 PM

[quote] I was under the impression that they ate lamb / goat in India, not mutton.

I initially learned this while in New Zealand. We went to the butcher in the small Marlborough town we were staying in and asked for lamb.

“We ship all our lamb to you Yanks!” the butcher snarled at us. He then directed us to hoggett, explaining that it was lamb less than 3 years old. Mutton was older than hoggett.

Obviously each age of meat requires different cooking techniques, and the hotel I was at nailed it with the slow cooking.

by Anonymousreply 35September 8, 2023 12:11 AM

Also, I have tried goat twice in different Indian restaurants. Each time tiny bones have slipped through and I accidentally bit into them. Not pleasant, and I’m pretty much turned off goat forever.
