Could DL be more Popular than we Imagined

I learned today a certain B lister posts here.

by Anonymousreply 85August 23, 2023 9:39 AM

Initials or other clues

by Anonymousreply 1August 21, 2023 1:09 AM

R1 Sorry can’t.

by Anonymousreply 2August 21, 2023 1:11 AM
by Anonymousreply 3August 21, 2023 1:12 AM

Then fuck off, OP/R2!!!! Thread closed.

by Anonymousreply 4August 21, 2023 1:13 AM

If not initials, OP, you could at least write a blind item.

by Anonymousreply 5August 21, 2023 1:15 AM

"B-Lister "... in reality, D-Lister

by Anonymousreply 6August 21, 2023 1:21 AM

Hey, this place used to have A-Listers! (well, in their own minds)

This place is a sad shadow of what it used to be. I remember that Miss Betty Bowers got her start here. Several notable hollywood insiders also posted here regularly. Lots of gossip and fun and info and silliness.

by Anonymousreply 7August 21, 2023 1:25 AM

We learned today a B posts here.

by Anonymousreply 8August 21, 2023 1:34 AM
I remember that Miss Betty Bowers got her start here.

I looked up the name (which I recall from years ago) and still have no idea who this is.

If that's the best DL produced...

by Anonymousreply 9August 21, 2023 1:53 AM

I wouldn't call Andy Cohen a B-lister. Maybe C.

by Anonymousreply 10August 21, 2023 1:54 AM

Is it B for bitch OP?

by Anonymousreply 11August 21, 2023 1:54 AM

…until the b lister finds out that ff to the wrong poster gets you canceled

by Anonymousreply 12August 21, 2023 1:56 AM

bradley cooper we know you’re lurking

by Anonymousreply 13August 21, 2023 2:03 AM

B-lister may be our apex.

by Anonymousreply 14August 21, 2023 2:03 AM

C. J.

by Anonymousreply 15August 21, 2023 2:17 AM

The eternally youthful Catherine Zeta-Jones?

by Anonymousreply 16August 21, 2023 2:18 AM

R9, how the fuck are you even gay if you don't know Miss Betty Bowers, Americans BEST Christian?!?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 17August 21, 2023 2:24 AM

r17 she's kind of a niche thing for gays of a certain age.

by Anonymousreply 18August 21, 2023 3:05 AM

OP, I never imagined that DL was popular.

by Anonymousreply 19August 21, 2023 3:29 AM

You caught me, OP!!!! It is I, Brendad Ickson stage and screen legend who posts to DL. I just love this place and all of the homosexual humor and wit.

Too bad you all will burn in hell very soon, but until then, which one of you degenerate pole smokers wants to go shopping for some new fake Chanel bags?!?!?!?!?

by Anonymousreply 20August 21, 2023 4:02 AM

My life on the B list.

by Anonymousreply 21August 21, 2023 4:07 AM

Connor Jessup?? Is he B-list?

by Anonymousreply 22August 21, 2023 5:21 AM

I think you mean Cluster B, right?

by Anonymousreply 23August 21, 2023 5:48 AM
Could DL be more Popular than we Imagined

It would almost have to be.

by Anonymousreply 24August 21, 2023 5:56 AM

It’s MRS. Betty Bowers, not MISS.

Geez.

by Anonymousreply 25August 21, 2023 6:05 AM

Colin Jost B-list? Bwahahaha

by Anonymousreply 26August 21, 2023 6:23 AM

For some, DL has been a gold mine of anonymized intellectual property with no copyright, ripe for the stealing. I've seen DL material show up daily on blogs, shamelessly used in novels, and more.

by Anonymousreply 27August 21, 2023 7:26 AM

The funny thing is I have had a handful of friends I introduced to Datalounge over the years. I was sure they’d love it just based on their personalities. It has never once stuck with any of them. They just don’t get it or want to get it. It has remained solely mine for twenty plus years now. I have no one in the real world to share this gem of a place with. Just you guys.

BTW I am trying to remember what brought me her originally. There was a story about a sexy reality star (MTV show or something) who appeared on a gray porn site militaryclassified. I think reading about it linked me to DL. I THINK that might have been 2003. Not sure.

by Anonymousreply 28August 21, 2023 7:44 AM
what brought me her

Something in the way she moves

Attracts you like no other lover.

by Anonymousreply 29August 21, 2023 7:49 AM

R27, novels???

Really?

by Anonymousreply 30August 21, 2023 7:52 AM

Yes. I didn't say they were [italic]good[/italic] novels.

I know one of the authors who did it. They stole something very specific, and it was hilarious to watch them lie and squirm when I asked about it. This person is very successful (not so much as a novelist) and known to DLers who were here in the aughties.

by Anonymousreply 31August 21, 2023 8:18 AM

I knew those Twilight novels were plagiarised filth, R31.

by Anonymousreply 32August 21, 2023 8:41 AM

I’ll never tell.

by Anonymousreply 33August 21, 2023 8:58 AM

R27 Entertainment Lawyer stole a story I related here almost word for word within a week of its DL appearance.

by Anonymousreply 34August 21, 2023 10:00 AM

It’s not me. My life time quest has been to make the B list. I still have a way to go.

by Anonymousreply 35August 21, 2023 11:12 AM

Cheyenne Jackson?

by Anonymousreply 36August 21, 2023 12:01 PM

"Infamous" is not the same "popular."

by Anonymousreply 37August 21, 2023 12:05 PM

Caitlyn

by Anonymousreply 38August 21, 2023 12:10 PM

I can’t say but it’s LD

by Anonymousreply 39August 21, 2023 12:19 PM
Andy Cohen

CUNT

by Anonymousreply 40August 21, 2023 1:11 PM

Same here, R28. In fact, one of my closest gay friends took one look at this place and pronounced it a cesspool of vileness he couldn't possibly understand why I would want to be here.

I had to laugh, because he was incredibly notorious for his rapier wit and cutting comments. I really thought he'd be a fit, but apparently could only dish it, not take it :-)

by Anonymousreply 41August 21, 2023 1:28 PM

This place can take some resilience. I dropped off around 2009 and can only take a couple of months before DL reads like repetitive anxiety.

by Anonymousreply 42August 21, 2023 8:34 PM
I've seen DL material show up daily on blogs, shamelessly used in novels, and more.

Link, please.

by Anonymousreply 43August 21, 2023 8:41 PM

R41 DataLounge IS a cesspool. My tolerance for both cess and pools ebbs and flows, so I take little breaks from time to time. But GAWDdamitt, something keeps drawing me back in.

I prefer the old DataLounge which was a lot hornier, and a lot less Maga-ridden.

I prefer the DL which was bitchy sure, but a lot less, well, hateful and divisive.

Mrs. Betty Bowers rocks!!

by Anonymousreply 44August 21, 2023 10:11 PM
Link, please.

You seem to think I care more than a passing "hm, interesting how creative product works these days".

by Anonymousreply 45August 22, 2023 7:37 AM

I’ve noticed the word klangerine first on dl and people are now using it on Facebook

by Anonymousreply 46August 22, 2023 7:49 AM

I've tried to get two friends who I just knew would love DL. Nope. They both lasted a day.

Then I have two other friends who I thought would hate it and both lurk from time to time (or so they tell me).

DL giveth. DL taketh.

by Anonymousreply 47August 22, 2023 7:56 AM

I remember when Instagram was on the rise with it's endless, addictive scrolling, I lost interest in Datalounge. They served kind of the same purpose. But when I moved abroad and heard nothing but a foreign language around me all day, I returned to Datalounge to feel something familiar and something that was my own. Plus it was a great place to share my experience with others anonymously without annoying friends back home with constant posts on my insta timeline. I hope it never goes away.

Just curious, how long ago did this current Datalounge layout happen? Ten years ago? I remember when it changed over, it was a huge disturbance in the daily flow. It used to be black, burgundy and gray. There was no endless scrolling of threads, but pages instead. But like getting a new filling or dental implant, it feels very foreign at first, but after a certain point, you can't even feel it or remember what it felt like before it.

by Anonymousreply 48August 22, 2023 7:59 AM

Caitlyn

by Anonymousreply 49August 22, 2023 8:17 AM

I like to think our old friend Rosie is still a poster here on the DL. She's probably one of those catty lesbians we hate to love around here.

by Anonymousreply 50August 22, 2023 8:30 AM

I remember three main versions of Datalounge (I've been here FOREVER... since, what, 1997-98?):

There was the original mustard/cyan color scheme.

Then came the dark red/purple color scheme.

And now this sea-foam-green/cream color scheme.

I also remember the failed " a" dating site that was for gay men (mostly). Sadly, it never got anywhere close to critical mass, and it folded after a couple of years of trying.

by Anonymousreply 51August 22, 2023 2:16 PM

Good morning DL, can you go back to the "dark red/purple" scheme, please!

1997, I was starting to move from LA to La Jolla, the home was finally rehabbed, I did like living 2 blocks from OJ's home. I'm amazed that people were on this site back then.

by Anonymousreply 52August 22, 2023 3:01 PM

Thanks OP ! I thought I was dead!

I think it's somewhere around there. Web Archive also shows a different layout in 2018-earlier.

by Anonymousreply 55August 22, 2023 3:40 PM

OP is Othello not using his sig for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 56August 22, 2023 4:01 PM

R56 Because I didn’t want to that’s why. What’s it to you?

by Anonymousreply 57August 22, 2023 4:09 PM

Caitlyn is not a B-list. Maybe C at best.

I'm sure a lot of celebrities post...you can be anonymous and have some fun.

by Anonymousreply 58August 22, 2023 7:22 PM

^ If C list stands for Cunt, I would agree about Caitzilla.

by Anonymousreply 59August 22, 2023 7:26 PM

CUNTlyn Jenner

by Anonymousreply 60August 22, 2023 8:13 PM

But Bruce doesn't have a cunt, she has her penis?

by Anonymousreply 61August 22, 2023 8:14 PM

OP, didn't you know we're all A-List here at DL?!

For shame.

by Anonymousreply 62August 22, 2023 8:44 PM

R58 Caitlyn is an A list celebrity.

by Anonymousreply 63August 22, 2023 8:53 PM

probably all the people who are on strike right now.

by Anonymousreply 64August 22, 2023 8:56 PM

I learned today a certain BJ lister posts here.

by Anonymousreply 65August 22, 2023 8:58 PM

It's kind of fascinating discovering DL recently (like 3 years ago?) after I've been online since the early 90s (I'm a millennial). I probably found it through Googling some porn star's name, and today I check in daily and love it here as a place for irreverent gay chat which I have too little of IRL. Also, I appreciate the history lessons.

by Anonymousreply 66August 22, 2023 9:08 PM

It's a fascinating beast that only Muriel can barely control. I'm sure we don't have an iota of the clue when it comes to the bullshit they deal with to keep this place live.

by Anonymousreply 67August 22, 2023 9:10 PM

It's not so much 'alive' these days as 'on life support'.

The fact that it's almost 100% of the time in "Primetime" is one issue, but there are numerous bugs and issues that have gone unfixed for years now, and old threads have been purged (even super amazing ones like the 9/11 thread which really showed the heart and soul of the people here, behind the cuntiness and bitchery).

by Anonymousreply 68August 22, 2023 9:17 PM

WRONG R63. Bruce is Z-list at best.

by Anonymousreply 69August 22, 2023 9:20 PM

I have no stake in this argument but Cait is A list famous. Olympic world athlete. Popularity resurgence via Keeping up with the Kardashians. Then became a tranny which made him even bigger.

by Anonymousreply 70August 22, 2023 9:24 PM

There were a lot fewer posts/posters in 1997. I was able to read every single post made over a one week period in an hour. I can’t imagine what it must have been like in 95 and 96. But then it took off in I want to say 99.

by Anonymousreply 71August 22, 2023 9:30 PM

It's me! OK? Satisfied? Someone here got me in a seance and I can't get back!!!

Here I am with my good friend Joan.

When I first perused message boards, I preferred the more heavily monitored sites that kept riff raff and assholes out. I'd run across DL several times, but it seemed odd that there weren't categories, just random threads spewed, and I'd try to read a thread or two and the assholish nature of some posters made me think it was a mess. It took about three or four times when I finally got the snark and bitchiness was all part of the fun. I, too, have recommended it to a couple of friends, but none of them got it and thought it was a waste of time.

by Anonymousreply 73August 22, 2023 9:55 PM

Caitlyn has young, fairly new poosey for the rest of the body that will be age 74 in October.

Apparently, she doesn’t date men, but has a live-in, longtime relationship with another, very much younger, MtF trans.

Now, she’s a Fox News contributor and big time MAGA. She a major critic of trans athletics competing in women’s sports.

Her actor skills are low list. That ‘I am Cait’ show lasted one season.

by Anonymousreply 74August 22, 2023 10:04 PM

DL is popular where it matters.

I mean, us smart witty bishes.

by Anonymousreply 75August 22, 2023 10:05 PM

Recipe queen Greg isn't even a D-lister, OP.

by Anonymousreply 76August 22, 2023 10:09 PM

by Anonymousreply 79August 22, 2023 10:43 PM
I have no stake in this argument but Cait is A list famous.

Mmm, no, R70.

by Anonymousreply 80August 22, 2023 11:42 PM
Could DL be more Popular than we Imagined

I doubt it since longtime DLers have always believed that we're the center of the known universe and that the rest of the world breathlessly awaits our pronouncements on all topics.

by Anonymousreply 81August 22, 2023 11:44 PM

It isn’t R81?

by Anonymousreply 82August 22, 2023 11:50 PM

Only if the "A" stands for asshole, R63.

by Anonymousreply 83August 23, 2023 12:12 AM

R74, does the partner have a dick?

R20, your phrasing and spelling are too good to be BrandaD!

by Anonymousreply 84August 23, 2023 4:57 AM

Caitlyn Jenner is NOT an A-List celebrity.

Stop peddling such nonsense.
