Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is set to receive the Ms. Foundation’s Women of Vision Award tonight in New York
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, will be in New York Tuesday night, along with Black Voters Matter co-founder LaTosha Brown, to receive the Ms. Foundation’s Women of Vision Award, as the nation’s oldest women’s foundation marks its 50th anniversary.
The appearance is set to be her first public event since she skipped the coronation of her father-in-law King Charles III earlier this month in order to stay at home in California for her son Prince Archie’s fourth birthday. Her husband Prince Harry attended the coronation in London and then rushed back to California.
Funds raised at the foundation’s annual gala at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in Manhattan will be used to further the organization’s equity-centered initiatives and its mission of advancing women’s collective power.
The foundation will also honor Wanda Irving, co-founder of Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project, and Kimberly Inez McGuire, executive director of URGE, as well as abortion rights activist Olivia Julianna and LGBTQ+ advocate Rebekah Bruesehoff.
Teresa C. Younger, Ms. Foundation president and CEO, said in a statement that the honorees will be celebrate for “their many accomplishments and tireless work on behalf of gender and racial equity across the country and the world.”
Gloria Steinem, Ms. Foundation co-founder, will present Meghan the award for “her global advocacy to empower and advocate on behalf of women and girls.” Meghan and Prince Harry direct their philanthropy through their Archewell Foundation, which provided nearly 13 million COVID-19 vaccines with partner Global Citizen and helped resettle nearly 175,000 refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan in the United States with partner Welcome.US, according to its 2022 annual report.

"Ms. Foundation's Women of Vision" Award???
What has she done to deserve such an award?
Meghan Markle married well. That is all.
Presenting her with an award is anti-feminist. It tells women -- especially young women -- that you do not have to do well in school, work hard at a career, or become an independent woman. All you need to do is marry a rich man.
The only reason Meghan Markle is a public figure is because she married a son of the British King.
It does not matter that she college-educated or achieved a degree of success as an actress in show business...None of that matters...Meghan Markle married well.
That is anti-feminist.

Why is Markle so desperate for publicity? Nobody knew who she was before and nobody needs to know who she is now. What's her endgame? A reality TV celeb? Politics? She doesn't have an endgame. It's a constant pursuit of status, the spotlight, people adoring her, power, money and fame. It's not going to end. Meghan Markle is a bottomless pit of ego, ruthlessness, spite and vengeance.

I really love when she buys these awards because it's so amusing to watch people try to explain what she did to "earn" the award over people who actually try to help others.
The NAACP award was hilarious because instead of focussing on how glorious it was that such an august organisation gave them an award, normal people were left cautiously asking "Wait - what is this for again? I can't remember what she was supposed to have done that deserved this recognition. I'm sure she did SOMETHING, I just can't remember what it was..." And the questions then just float into oblivion because no Meghan fan ever convincingly answers, since of course she did absolutely nothing except perhaps sign a cheque.
This is exactly the sort of thing that make normal people look at this couple and think they're totally disingenuous twats. It does no favours for the organisations that lower themselves to giving fake awards to the pointless pair, either.

I think it's a gimmick. The Markles have a built-in publicity machine with their troll farm and that weird guy Bouzy pretending he runs Twitter. So if you want some attention for some previously unknown 'award', you give one out to the Markles knowing they'll get their troll farm to get it trending on Twitter. Like that actually matters. It's an 'influencer' thing and the reason all influencers should have their Iphones confiscated.

Everything she wears is one size too small. If she wore clothes tailored to her actual size, she would actually look slimmer.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | May 17, 2023 12:07 AM

She *really* doesn't need so many horizontal seams going across her (broad, flat-chested) torso. Curved lines around her bust (above and below) on the bodice would have given the illusion of shape there and made her waist look smaller. The top bodice area should have had gathers/pleats below each breast, rather than the horizontal lines going across the middle of her bust.
She always picks the outfits that only supermodels can pull off.
Did she do a merching deal with the designer of this dress?

Many of us early feminists saw through Gloria. She could and can be a good egg at times but she was such an attention-ho and had no problem using her looks & body for that attention. Her involvement with this woman is low.
And, yes, Meghan's deliberately using the term Waity Katey was an incredibly low and bitchy thing to do. She deserves no awards for anything involving women or girls after that.
I await the report on her bullying staff as well as wondering if it's true that it was Meghan who started and/or spread the rumor about William having an affair.

r114 and r124 The bullying report will not be released, but the Palace has made it's opinion of the issue crystal clear last week when they gave Jason Knauf one of the highest honours the Monarchy ever gives: The Royal Victorian Order.
Knauf was the first person to put into writing directly to the Palace how dire her bullying of staff was, and who threatened to quit if it was not stopped. They made the announcement as far back as the December 2022 King's Honours List, so the decision to honour him was made a while ago.
Among other things, that move strongly signals that the Palace believe the word of the bullied staff members, over that of the Harkles.

r126 I have had that same though so many times, although you are the first time I've ever read it from someone else. I often thought she intentionally wore inappropriate, or unflattering, or ill-fitting, or wrinkled/too tight etc clothing specifically in the hopes that she could get a negative headline (or five) in order to use them as "proof" for her then-future plans to do her tell-alls, as well as to convince Harry that she was being "racially abused" by the media, was indeed so hounded as to be the 2nd Diana, in terrible danger for her life, and so enact her plans to Megxit and make bank in California.

It's a "Women of Vision" award, not a humanitarian award.
It's given to her because of the work she has done for women around the world both now and in the past.
You haters don't even realize that she was a women's right advocate for women all over the world, and especially in Africa, before she even met Harry.
But you haters will never give her credit for that.

R135 you are sooo full of shit. Actresses try to get gigs with UN orgs or NGOs as "ambassadors" to get publicity. Like Angelina with UNHCR. Meghan's involvement was strictly with little NGOs or 'charities' nobody had ever heard of, scraping the bottom of the barrel to get some content for her social media account. It's pathetic.

You people know every little thing Meghan does, you follow her obsessively, so don't play this childish game. You know what she's done, you're just mad because she's getting an award, positive press, and it pisses you off so much that you make ridiculous comparisons ("Unless she's like Jimmy Carter she doesn't deserve anything") and say racist shit ("She's not really black, she's faking it").

my sides! she did minimal charity work, and even then it was to enhance her profile and put her in a good light with certain types of people. You make it sound as if she was travelling the world non-stop, hugging poor orphans and digging water wells in underdeveloped countries by hand. Her drive to fabricate tedious and contrived childhood anecdotes is truly bizarre.
This one had all her hallmarks: the weird, irrelevant detail ( her cat’s collar) to try to convince you she’s not making the whole thing up, the self-aggrandisement (watching Jeopardy—-she was the smart girl, not the pretty girl!), and, of course, the glaringly improbable premise of the anecdote itself (Pa Markle’s subscription to Ms Magazine, nestled presumably amongst his copies of Cosmopolitan and Womenswear Daily).

Megs pays PR firms like WME a LOT of money to keep her name/image firmly within the public eye. Awards to be received (more often than not "awarded" due to the incessant harrague of the PR firm), projects partnered between Megs . . .uh . . . Archewell and chartible organizations, even something as mundate/inane as "Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex Contributes Recipe to “The World Central Kitchen Cookbook: Feeding Humanity, Feeding Hope”. The vast majority of PR about awards/projects/whatever focus on Megs far more than the project. It's all about highlighting Megs and her public image in that look at me, aren't I wonderful kinda way.
An even cursory look behind the PR hype reveals that most of the projects are nothing more than a web page containing a few sentences hypiing a "cause" and requesting donations, including on the Archewell Foundation site, empty shells with no purpose other than to bolster Megs pubic image and monumental ego. A tawdry grift hidden behind a well-designed web page. But then Megs the practiced grifter is well aware that a "professional image" is far more likely to attract the marks.

One wonders if Megs heard that story from her father or mother and, being the grifter she is, filed it away for future use to her advantage. She eventually did use that exact line in her accusations of racism against the British Royal Family.

The people who support Meghan Markle, who actually believe that she is sincere and wonderful, seem to be missing a "BS detector." It blows my mind that anyone could observe her and feel sorry for her, or see anything good and true in her at all. Because it's obvious from space that she is a fraud. My BS detector goes berserk anytime I see her face, hear her voice or - God forbid - watch her "act."

She also tried to undermine the lifelong work of a beloved public figure as she was dying for no reason other than greed or vanity. That also motivates people to comment.

R242 dumb person, senior members of the British Royal Family have IPP status which means wherever they travel, local authorities have to foot the bill for their security, for driving them in motorcades in keeping with their status, getting them special privileges to arrive straight at their plane in airports, etc. Dumb Harry forgot when he left the Royals he'd lose his very useful IPP status. That's what he's after. He doesn't give a shit about security. He wants to be treated like a king and not obliged to rub shoulders with the proletariat.

Her memories are so carefully curated for the occasion:
Meghan took the stage on Tuesday evening to give her acceptance speech, in which she said, "As a young girl, I would come home, I'd settle in after a day of school, pull up my TV tray with dinner and I would turn on my evening ritual: Jeopardy! And I'd glance at the coffee table, where I'd see an array of things: it could be the cat's collar, my homework, some mail that had just been brought in — and some magazines. The magazines said Ms. on them."
"I remember them vividly because the pictures were different. There was diversity that I hadn't seen as often, both of color and of age and the names were different," she continued. "There were congresswomen, there were astronauts and the topics were different — from mothering to being a working mom to heavier topics such as domestic violence, the poverty line, unearthing its roots, where it comes from and matters of equity."
"I was too young at the time to know what most of it meant," Meghan said, adding that despite that, "the significance of these magazines was important."
Her mom, Meghan said, "had a subscription and having these pages in our home, it signaled to me that there was just so much more than the dolled-up covers and the images that you would see on the grocery store covers."
"It signaled to me that substance mattered," she added.

R177, what struck me about that whole passage was that is was her typical M.O. of spinning vague bullshit into something that might sound meaningful if you weren't really listening. It's a descriptive collection of thoughts that have nothing to do with anything. Basically, what she's saying is, "We had the magazine on the table and I noticed it there." Nothing about having actually read it or even knowing what was in it. Only its appearance that, 30 years later, she would dredge from her memory banks to pretend that Ms Magazine held any significance for her before she latched onto Steinem.

R284 when “celebrities” appear in public they take the risk of encountering members of the public who may ask what in this case was a very legitimate question. The public has the right to say anything and the “celebrity” has the right not to respond, which she exercised.

Then there's the wandering syntax, which gets lost after 'what you repeat in your own daily acts of service', the subject of a clause which is never completed.

That's pretty common because of the tax benefits of having corporations registered in Delaware. It's been like that for quite some time and you'll find a lot of corps and charitable orgs registered there. There's no tax penalty to register in Delaware but operate in another state.

I'm all for image control, self-promotion, deliberate paparazzi bait appearances, etc. whether real, fake, what-have-you.

R284 - People in the USA have a right to protest or at least they do right know. (No telling what DeSatan might do in Florida) .
You can yell anything you want as long you do do not cause bodily harm. The "protesters" at the January 6th Insurrection, who are now in jail playing with their puds, either caused bodily harm or conspired to cause bodily harm. In the UK, I think it is called GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm; learned this binge watching Vera)
Grievous bodily harm (GBH) is when someone intentionally or recklessly inflicts serious bodily harm on someone else. Yelling is NOT inflicting bodily harm.
If I want the 'right" to yell at Trump or DeSatan, I must extend that same right to the Sussexes, assorted Klan Grannies and garden variety Karens.

Funniest thing is their bodyguard/spokesman claiming that was the scariest night of his life!

This whole "catastrophic" car chase is really off the charts creepy and deranged.
Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if she was willing to sacrifice her own mother in some staged car crash so she can make that her new victim platform. "They killed my mother like they killed Harry's mother and it's all the RF's fault because they didn't provide security. They OWE me." I don't think I'm stretching too far by saying this, the diabolical duo are both that ill. Narcs/Sociopaths will go to horrifying extremes to WIN without blinking an eye.
I've had an active interest in this whole narcissistic royal saga because she reminds me so much of the narc who married into my family, they all use the same playbook. However, this contrived "catastrophic" car chase cosplaying Diana is just too dark and sick and wasting so many public resources. I'm going to take a long break from commenting on and "clicking" about them. I'll come back when the divorce saga begins because I really want to see beady eyed Harry annihilated. I loathe him more than her.

Harry & Meghan’s NYC ‘car chase’ happened because they were too cheap to pay for hotel: source
by Anonymous | reply 370 | May 19, 2023 6:03 PM
|
The entitled couple allegedly demanded the Carlyle — the late Princess Diana’s favorite hotel — give them a discounted room for their New York City visit this week.
According to law enforcement sources, bosses at the Carlyle refused the hefty discount, so the embattled pair instead stayed at a friend’s house on the Upper East Side.
But when the paparazzi began following them Tuesday night from the Ziegfeld theater — in what their spokesperson claimed was a “relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours” — the duo didn’t want to lead the photographers back to their friend’s home and reveal where they were staying.
by Anonymous | reply 371 | May 19, 2023 6:04 PM
|
A New York City law enforcement source told Page Six: “They should have just gotten a hotel for the safety of everyone. Instead, they were cheap and wanted a free place to stay.”
According to the source, “Harry and Meghan’s people called the Carlyle ahead of the trip and asked for a discounted room, and the hotel said no.
“If they had just paid up and got a hotel in the first place, this supposed ‘dangerous’ paparazzi chase around town would never have happened. They would have been driven back to the Carlyle, been photographed going inside and that would have been the end of it.”
In the past, Harry and Meghan have been regulars at the Carlyle, where rooms go from around $1,240 and suites up to $6,000 a night. They checked into the iconic hotel during a visit to New York in 2021, and were seen dining at the hotel’s famed Bemelmans Bar.

However, following their allegations, eyewitnesses claimed the couple exaggerated the incident, and they were not followed for two hours.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination, and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries or arrests in regard,” the New York City Police Department said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Harry and Meghan put regular people’s lives at risk because they are cheap,” the law-enforcement source told Page Six. They should just accept that people are going to take photos of them, photographers are going to follow them — this is New York — and they have to take intelligent steps to ensure their own security for the safety of themselves and everyone else.”
Reps for Harry and Meghan didn’t get back to us. Reps for the Carlyle did not comment.

DailyMail.com: “Fatuous, irrelevant, and no sense of purpose – what a fitting backdrop Manhattan’s ‘Women of Vision’ made for the vapid La Markle herself! Fellow guest Maureen Callahan’s sparkling account of Meghan’s word-salad gala appearance.
...Meghan climbed on stage to the Alicia Keys she-ro anthem ‘Girl on Fire’ – and then… a whole lot of nothing. Verbiage and word salad that were content-free, except when speaking on her favorite subject: herself. Here, in real time, we observed Meghan’s inability to read a room. She thanked ‘the other honorees’ without naming them. ‘Congratulations,” she said, ‘and frankly, well deserved.’ It was all so smug and supercilious, this glorified podcaster telling these boots-on-the-ground activists…
There was the cringe-inducing humblebrag, calling her new friend Gloria ‘Glo’… It’s ‘Glo” to Meghan but Meghan is ‘Duchess’ to us… The crowd was checking their watches… Her speech didn’t even deliver fresh content! She repeated the story, as told on her podcast, of poor little Meghan coming home from wschool to her TV dinner, cat collars and copies of Ms. Magazine strewn about courtesy of her mother… ‘Change is just one action away’ ‘You can be the visionary of your own life’ ‘Daily acts of service, in kindness, in advocacy, grace, and in fairness.’ ‘The imprints that were forged in my mind – I can now connect the dots in a much better way to understand how I became a young feminist and evolved into a grown activist.’ ...’Ms was formative in my cocooning, it piqued my curiosity, and it became the chrysalis for the woman that I would become and that I am today.’ … How fitting that the night was overshadowed by a grasping phony whose empty platitudes on stage failed to make headlines, whose spokesperson told a wild story of a high-stakes car chase.
Pity Meghan, but recognize her strength. Admire her, but never laugh at her. And never, ever question her veracity.

Whenever something sours, she will blame him if she can. Remember, she had a great life and deigned to marry him, giving up everything in the process. Try to imagine a guy being stupid enough to believe that, but Harry did. Now we know that he has not one but two hotels where he hangs out at to get high and get away from the nagging.
I thought it was interesting to see which media picked up the story uncritically and the difficulties they had adjusting and righting the ship, so to speak, when it became clear they had been fed a line of BS. TMZ broke the story and tried to stand by it as long as they could but finally gave up by Saturday. .
The NYT embarrassed itself by working up to a paparazzi expose that faulted one of the photogs for not wanting to speak to them without compensation. The horror. I'm sure the editors are wagging fingers at them from their summer rentals along the shoreline.
David Muir made an ass of himself.
The NY Post, filthy rag that it is, did a creditable job but screwed up by having Douglas Murray, one of Murdoch's Oxford toffs, pretend to be a street-smart New Yorker with a column titled "Sorry Harry and Meghan, the lies don't fly in NYC." But, of course, they do and the Post is the greatest prevaricator.

Or try a different hotel more amenable to freebies? Whereas Harry apparently has two hotels in California holding rooms for him to chill out so paying for hotel rooms isn’t an issue. This story really doesn’t add up.

I saw this article a week ago. Perhaps they were leaking stories like this to try to get a fancy hotel to give them a rate in exchange for publicity but couldnt do it?

If Harry stayed at the Aman, someone else was paying for it, probably the publisher to get him to finish his goddam book. Maybe this story was leaker to show the Carlyle what great publicity they could expect if they comped her a suite.

Carlyle staffer: Sir, some royals called and they would like a discounted room for next week.
Manager: oh how lovely! Is it William and Catherine again?? Princess Anne??
Staffer: um no, its Prince Harry and Meghan.
Manager: cant do it and tell them we are all booked.

I'm wondering if the Women of Vision thing offered them a hotel room, as is usual in these cases, but they rejected it as not being suitable for them as very important personages.

Probably. Otherwise why not just stay at a normal hotel? You just need a place to dump your bags and sleep.

They probably demanded an entire floor for themselves and their entourage.

So Megsie walks out on stage in a gold dress, with gold accessories...and the song playing *just happens* to be wailing "This Girl Is On Fire"?
How cringe. That she and the organisers probably planned this, makes it one of the saddest things ever.
Would love to know if any A-listers take notes from her actions on how NOT to behave in public. Wish one of them would have a source snark to the press that she and Dimbo are truly reviled in LaLa Land.

Do you know how many Gracie Awards are given out? I just found out. There are at least 9 categories with many, many winners in each. Meghan's category is Digital Media National, which has 22 winners.
The longer the temporal distance from her time with the Royal Family, the more laughable it becomes to see her referred to by the title Megan, Duchess of Sussex, which is how she's listed below. It just seems insane. It may be her title, but how it is her identity at all? She got the title on her wedding day and skedaddled out of the country a year later.

The irony is that she can’t even get her title right. “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex” is either the ex-wife or widow of the Duke of Sussex. She’s The Duchess of Sussex, although she obviously wanted to work her name in somehow.

[quote] Meghan Markle married well. That is all.
I think you have her mixed up with Kate Middleton. She was a celebrity in her own right before marrying Harry, and, unlike supporting causes because “service” is an obligation to the British people, she supports them because she believes in them.
There, that’s sorted!

Which causes does Meghan believe in, r439?

Yes, R439 - she was famous on a global scale. Absolutely, positively famous on that obscure Canadian cable show that nobody watched. Incredibly famous.

She is a "Woman of Vision" indeed, she certainly is good at keeping her eye on the prize.

R439, why does Meghan insist on being called "Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex" at all these award ceremonies where she's honoured for her service?

Gosh, since she was such a well-known celebrity as Meghan Markle, why didn't she follow the longstanding actress tradition of retaining the name under which she became an established star in the Hollywood firmament? It's as if her own name weren't fancy enough for her anymore!
Imagine hitching your whole identity to a fluff title like that when you had worldwide fame under your real name.

I should have signed that as follows:

R439 if Meghan was such a hot commodity during he Suits days how come she got no movie roles in between seasons? The women on Desperate Housewives, Friends, Sex & The City etc etc all made movies in the summer break. She was attractive back then so could have at least got some romcom or romantic drama. Could it be that she wasn't particular well known or well regarded?

So, Meghan just didn't turn up at the Gracie Awards, even though she was an awardee? Too ashamed to show her face in public?

R439. Markle was not a celebrity. She was an actress on a little known cable show, which does not qualify one as a celebrity. Also, she was/is not involved in "service." She instead offers minimal lip service and word salad to pretend to offer service.
There, that’s sorted!

Actually r457 she is unhappy person so I don't consider that a success. With the odds against her (American, biracial, divorced) she actually landed a Prince. She lives in a beautiful home in a beautiful area and has two (I am assuming) healthy children. But she will never be happy, always trying to grasp more fame and more accolades.

Also she and Harry are very jealous people. Even if they are successful they are envious of what others have so they are never satisfied.

Yeah she's never going to be the type to just kick back by the pool with the kids running around and say "You know Harry, we have it pretty good, others have it much worse.."

I always have trouble understanding this, but I have read in many places, assuming Meghan is a narcissist (and I do):
The narcissist will never be happy.
“Contrary to the common misperception, narcissists aren’t arrogant even if they act arrogant,” explains Pavel G. Somov, Ph.D. “They simply don’t feel good about themselves.”
Despite incalculable self-importance, the narcissist doesn’t have high self-esteem. They coat themselves in praise and approval from others to hide their biggest fear.

I don't claim to know, or want to know, what personal feelings and reactions are going on with the Sussexes, or, within their marriage.
I'll reserve my observations on that until the inevitable divorce happens and the couple publicly go to Defcon 1 with each other.
Still, WME has its hands full with Markle.
Now what? They have to endure and wait-out the hilarious, ill-advised, ill-worded statement form the Sussexes on the non-existent two hours chase in Manhattan.
When Mayor Eric Adams has to stifle laughing on "Morning Joe", that's a PR problem, to state the obvious.
If nothing else, I've got to give the Sussexes credit for keeping my attention, even if it's to stick around to see how they extricate themselves from all of this.
if Markle had the balls, talent and guts, she'd take a TV role similar to Alexis Carrington or Vanessa Williams on "Ugly Betty".
Her not brazening it out and attending the Coronation tells me, however, that she has none of those attributes.
