The text that led to Tucker Carlson being fired

January 7, 2021 racist text:
A couple of weeks ago, I was watching video of people fighting on the street in Washington. A group of Trump guys surrounded an Antifa kid and started pounding the living shit out of him. It was three against one, at least. Jumping a guy like that is dishonorable obviously. It’s not how white men fight. Yet suddenly I found myself rooting for the mob against the man, hoping they’d hit him harder, kill him. I really wanted them to hurt the kid. I could taste it. Then somewhere deep in my brain, an alarm went off: this isn’t good for me. I’m becoming something I don’t want to be. The Antifa creep is a human being. Much as I despise what he says and does, much as I’m sure I’d hate him personally if I knew him, I shouldn’t gloat over his suffering. I should be bothered by it. I should remember that somewhere somebody probably loves this kid, and would be crushed if he was killed. If I don’t care about those things, if I reduce people to their politics, how am I better than he is?

He's full blown Nazi.

by Anonymousreply 1May 3, 2023 2:06 AM

There's so much offensive with the text I don't even know where to start.

by Anonymousreply 2May 3, 2023 2:08 AM

Don't white men usually fight by meeting in a board room and excluding people from their old boys club? Thereby ensuring lots of generational wealth/prestige/exclusive golf club memberships for themselves?

I guess Tucker was right!

by Anonymousreply 3May 3, 2023 2:10 AM

"Antifa" is now a race?

by Anonymousreply 4May 3, 2023 2:12 AM

What will become of his and DLemon's budding bromance, now? Don will have to hide his regard for Tuckim's forever! If only Tuckim's could grasp back his cruel, racist text. SAD!

by Anonymousreply 5May 3, 2023 2:12 AM

What a classy guy

by Anonymousreply 6May 3, 2023 2:14 AM

His people still worship him - even more now. They are chanting YEAHHH for him. Fucking trash.

by Anonymousreply 7May 3, 2023 2:16 AM

Yeah, Fox is dumping all they can to smear him. This has nothing to do with their motives . And , if I'm not mistaken, he hasn't been fired, just removed from the air. This is all political. They're throwing out chum

by Anonymousreply 8May 3, 2023 2:16 AM

I doubt they'd fire him over that. It was because he aired a story about black socialists getting arrested for promoting pro-Russia/anti-war war messaging. Story was 2 days before firing.

by Anonymousreply 9May 3, 2023 2:16 AM

This was story that got Tucker fired.

by Anonymousreply 10May 3, 2023 2:22 AM

NYT's story is narrative control. They serve the imperialists. Not defending Tucker but whatever NYT or any news organization is going to say as to why Tucker was fired is likely going to be BS.

by Anonymousreply 11May 3, 2023 2:24 AM

How does Tucker's ass smell — and taste — R11?

by Anonymousreply 12May 3, 2023 2:26 AM

How is that any worse than the shit he shoveled on air night after night? I think Fox Just chose something to stop the speculation because they don’t want the real truth to get out.

by Anonymousreply 13May 3, 2023 2:26 AM

R11 is right though. And the NYT has a long disgusting record of doing exactly what they said.

by Anonymousreply 14May 3, 2023 2:28 AM

Since when is Fox news brass offended by racism or white supremacy? Something about this story rings false. TC was fired for some reason(s) but I doubt it was this. Smells fishy.

by Anonymousreply 15May 3, 2023 2:29 AM
The text message added to a growing number of internal issues involving Mr. Carlson that led the company’s leadership to conclude he was more of a problem than an asset and had to go, according to several people with knowledge of the decision. In other messages he had referred to women — including a senior Fox executive — in crude and misogynistic terms. The message about the fight also played a role in the company’s decision to settle with Dominion for $787.5 million, the highest known payout in a defamation case.

[…]
Mr. Carlson’s messages were collected as part of the defamation lawsuit filed against Fox by Dominion, which accused the network of knowingly airing falsehoods about election fraud. Many of the messages shared in the case, including those among Fox executives and hosts, were released publicly. But others, like the one between Mr. Carlson and one of his producers in the hours after Jan. 6, 2021, remain redacted.

[…]
The text message came to the attention of Fox’s board of directors and even some senior executives only last month, on the Sunday before the trial was set to begin, according to two people with knowledge of Fox’s internal deliberations. At the time, Fox’s negotiators were entering discussions about an out-of-court settlement ahead of the swearing in of what was shaping up to be a diverse jury.
The next day, the board told Fox’s leadership about its plan to have the law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen and Katz investigate Mr. Carlson. That disclosure set up the possibility that there could be a continuing investigation into what was behind Mr. Carlson’s messages at the same time as a trial, and as he was serving as its top host in prime time.

[…]
Though Mr. Carlson’s show, “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” was only a small factor in the Dominion suit, his personal texts were drawing outsize scrutiny.
The text about the fight came on top of a damaging chain of messages that had been revealed publicly ahead of trial, and that were shocking in their own right. Writing to one of his producers after the assault on the Capitol, Mr. Carlson describes the president he championed on his show as a “demonic force” and a “destroyer.”
A recurring theme of his show during the six years that it ran in prime time on Fox News was the displacement of white Americans by people of color. Mr. Carlson often framed topics in the news as part of a larger struggle between “us” and “them,” with immigrants and other marginalized groups steadily and surely taking from whites what had long been theirs: political and cultural power in the United States.
He attacked Black social justice activists and portrayed immigrants from Central America as a blight on the nation. He said in 2018 that immigrants make the country “dirtier.”
In the aftermath of a mass shooting in El Paso at the hands of a gunman who cited white supremacist beliefs in his manifesto, Mr. Carlson declared on his show that white supremacy was “not a real problem,” likening it to a conspiracy theory.

by Anonymousreply 16May 3, 2023 2:30 AM

The text was visceral and way beyond anything he said on the air, R13. Tucker was justifying a race war with that text, and the reason it concerned the Fox board was because they could see that was where he was headed... on their air.

by Anonymousreply 17May 3, 2023 2:30 AM

Shows he wonders if he has any compassion. Obviously he doesn't and is maybe growing a conscience?

We know most Republicans don't have compassion or even a conscience - this just underlines it.

by Anonymousreply 18May 3, 2023 2:32 AM

Despite the casual racism, the actual sentiment from Carlson expresses recognition and regret that hyperpartisanship is creating evilness in Americans and that we need empathy and humanity to move forward as a country.

I mean, it’s not wrong.

How could anyone see this as wrong!

by Anonymousreply 19May 3, 2023 2:33 AM

The irony is that the text's existence didn't come to the board's knowledge until right before the trial was about to begin, and as [italic]The Times[/italic] pointed out, the jury pool was diverse and not going to accept Tucker's and the Fox legal team's explanation that the text was written in the heat of the moment on J6. Put it in context of everything Tucker has spewed on air, and they accurately saw that the text was about to cost them $billions.

by Anonymousreply 20May 3, 2023 2:33 AM

I bet his children will grow up to be lovely, upstanding citizens. Yikes.

by Anonymousreply 21May 3, 2023 2:35 AM

Because Tucker didn't modify his language or behavior even though he could see and plainly admit it was wrong, R19.

by Anonymousreply 22May 3, 2023 2:35 AM
In other messages he had referred to women — including a senior Fox executive — in crude and misogynistic terms

That seems the most likely answer. It wasn't logical to fire Tucker, but the fury of a woman scorned could have made it happen.

by Anonymousreply 23May 3, 2023 2:37 AM

JFC who was he texting with that blog post?

by Anonymousreply 24May 3, 2023 2:39 AM
Despite the casual racism, the actual sentiment from Carlson expresses recognition and regret that hyperpartisanship is creating evilness in Americans and that we need empathy and humanity to move forward as a country.

The ironic thing is that the Antifa person, given the chance, would have beaten Tucker to death with the intent to do so and without hesitation.

by Anonymousreply 25May 3, 2023 2:40 AM
It wasn't logical to fire Tucker, but the fury of a woman scorned could have made it happen.

Yes, his fat ass is just irresistible to women. How truly likely that fantasy scenario sounds!

by Anonymousreply 26May 3, 2023 2:42 AM

I don't think it was just this text, or the texts calling women cunts, behind the Tucker's firing. Fox cares about one thing and one thing alone: cash. If it was this text and Tucker's misogyny, it was only because it was going to be expensive — way more expensive than the $787.5 million settlement.

There is still a lot more to this story than is currently available.

by Anonymousreply 27May 3, 2023 2:43 AM
The ironic thing is that the Antifa person, given the chance, would have beaten Tucker to death with the intent to do so and without hesitation.

Where's a straw man when you need him?

by Anonymousreply 28May 3, 2023 2:44 AM

You can pretty much be as despicable as you want in this country as long as there's an audience and money to be made. But as soon as you go against the US war industry, elites immediately pull the plug.

The other networks canceled their top hosts simultaneously to cover it up and make it seem like big changes are happening everywhere. This made it look worse actually imo... like all the networks are centrally operated lol. (Which they are.)

by Anonymousreply 29May 3, 2023 2:45 AM

r26, he scorned her by calling her a cunt. That has nothing to do with anything sexual.

by Anonymousreply 30May 3, 2023 2:45 AM

R29 r30

by Anonymousreply 31May 3, 2023 2:46 AM

Carlson is one of the people named in Abby Grossberg's lawsuit against Fox.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 32May 3, 2023 2:47 AM

Something I find odd is that if you are a news organization with a POV, why would you not vet the people you hire? It seems strange that a person like Grossberg with her views would be allowed to be on the inside. It's begging for a lawsuit and public exposure.

by Anonymousreply 33May 3, 2023 2:51 AM

"The ironic thing is that the Antifa person, given the chance, would have beaten Tucker to death with the intent to do so and without hesitation."

LOL, I bet the person wasn't even "antifa"

by Anonymousreply 34May 3, 2023 2:55 AM

Grossberg’s views were exactly the same as Fox’s, until Fox screwed her over.

by Anonymousreply 37May 3, 2023 2:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 39May 3, 2023 3:01 AM

"CT"???

Channing Tatum?

Charlize Theron?

Keep it KKKlassy, Tucker

by Anonymousreply 43May 3, 2023 3:06 AM

Hate Tucker Carlson. But this e-mail does not qualify as shocking.

by Anonymousreply 44May 3, 2023 3:14 AM

His career should have ended back when Jon Stewart bullied him for wearing stupid bowties.

by Anonymousreply 45May 3, 2023 3:21 AM

by Anonymousreply 46May 3, 2023 3:23 AM

Ugh wrong video. It should be this.

by Anonymousreply 47May 3, 2023 3:23 AM

I mean suggesting white people are superior is one thing (it’s what Fox is built on) but this story barely mentions that he wanted them to kill the kid. Really, really wanted them to kill the kid.

And had to force himself to remind himself that the kid was a human with famiky to dull his blood lust.

We have to put a stake in the heart of the GOP. They’re truly evil.

by Anonymousreply 48May 3, 2023 3:32 AM

Where are these marauding, violent Antifa gangs at? Because I haven't seen them anywhere.

by Anonymousreply 49May 3, 2023 3:32 AM

The New York Times really buried the lede with their headline. Tucker Carlson is still a racist, misogynistic, homophobic, asshole, but apparently has a soul. He didn't get fired for being a racist and saying "it's not how white men fight". He got fired for saying he realized that was someone's kid, and that thinking the way he was, was making him a bad person.

He violated Fox's "no soul" policy.

(Still no sympathy for him)

by Anonymousreply 50May 3, 2023 3:38 AM

Carlson speaks in tongues. He role plays. He asks many questions that are provocative hypotheticals. But the text is trashy.

Do we know the ethnicity of the Antifa person?

by Anonymousreply 53May 3, 2023 9:24 AM

"People are saying there were very bad Antifa agents at the Capitol that day. Very violent. Let me say this. I don't see any reason why good white people shouldn't have bashed their heads in."

by Anonymousreply 54May 3, 2023 11:33 AM

Didn't they really get rid of this used tampon of a man because of that settlement and the other one that's coming up? Getting rid of him saves them a lot of money.

by Anonymousreply 55May 3, 2023 12:45 PM

I'm thankful there aren't pictures of the pale nothing of a nubbin that he calls his dick that are being released, along with the texts.

by Anonymousreply 56May 3, 2023 12:50 PM
And , if I'm not mistaken, he hasn't been fired, just removed from the air.

You are mistaken. He got shitcanned.

by Anonymousreply 57May 3, 2023 12:52 PM

by Anonymousreply 58May 3, 2023 12:55 PM
While Carlson was probably felled by more than a single factor, these guesses are akin to the trees that obscure the proverbial forest. Rupert Murdoch, who founded Fox News, did what he often does at a moment of crisis, swiveling 180 degrees to secure his business empire. The move is famous enough to have an unusual name in Britain, where Murdoch first came to global prominence: the reverse ferret.
In the 1980s, Kelvin MacKenzie was the editor of Murdoch’s London tabloid The Sun, and he loved to describe his spiciest stories as putting a ferret down the pants of whichever celebrity or politician was targeted. But when a story turned out to be wrong or legally actionable, as often happened, MacKenzie burst out of his office and shouted to the newsroom, “Reverse ferret! Reverse ferret!” That meant one thing: The paper had to climb down immediately.

[…]
One of the sharpest Murdoch watchers, the Australian investigative journalist Neil Chenoweth, connected MacKenzie’s antics to his billionaire proprietor. “Rupert Murdoch’s entire business style may be characterized as a reverse ferret,” Chenoweth wrote more than 20 years ago. “Time and again when his plans have gone awry and he has found himself facing calamity, his superb survival skills have saved him. Just before he hits the wall, he does a little dummy, he feints this way and that, and then he sets off with undiminished speed in a new direction.” For instance, the right-wing Murdoch unexpectedly threw The Sun’s support to the Labor Party and Tony Blair in 1997, reportedly because then-Prime Minister John Major refused to back policies that Murdoch had pressed him on.
That kind of out-of-the-blue abandonment is basically what happened with Carlson, Fox’s biggest star and the pride and joy of not just Rupert Murdoch but also his son Lachlan, who runs the network on a daily basis. Both Murdochs had unusually close relationships with their favorite host — Carlson even dined with Rupert at the 92-year-old’s estate in Bel Air just a few weeks ago — until, all of a sudden, they didn’t. Carlson learned just a few minutes before the rest of us that his services were no longer required at Fox News.
This occurred a few days after another big reversal: Fox’s decision to pay $787.5 million in damages to Dominion for wrongfully reporting that its machines took votes away from then-President Donald Trump in 2020. The stop-the-steal ferret placed in America’s pants by Carlson and other Fox hosts, such as Maria Bartiromo and Lou Dobbs, was suddenly extracted, and while it was major news across the country, Fox hardly mentioned it, just as the network said almost nothing about Carlson’s exit. The properly executed reverse ferret denies its own existence.

It was obviously insincere.

by Anonymousreply 63May 3, 2023 4:00 PM
It’s not how white men fight.

The grand irony is that it is ONLY how white men fight. Racist mobs descending on a lone victim is the archetype for white supremacist violence -- when not attacking an unsuspecting crowd with an assault rifle.

by Anonymousreply 64May 3, 2023 4:11 PM

What is the difference between this text and the offensive crap Tucker spewed every night on his show? It's nothing new, so what am I missing that I don't see what there is in this text that should have set off any special alarms, considering what he's always gotten away with?

by Anonymousreply 65May 3, 2023 4:21 PM
What is the difference between this text and the offensive crap Tucker spewed every night on his show? It's nothing new, so what am I missing that I don't see what there is in this text that should have set off any special alarms, considering what he's always gotten away with?

It's the self awareness that the Antifa kid was somebody's child and that he realized he was a bad person for wishing harm on him that was shocking.

by Anonymousreply 66May 3, 2023 4:47 PM

Sure, that was shocking coming from Tucker Carlson, r66. But what about it was firing worthy?

by Anonymousreply 67May 3, 2023 5:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 69May 3, 2023 5:44 PM

Not buying that this text or blog post is what got that shitstain fired.

It was something far worse.

It doesn’t matter that Fux fired him, either. They coddled him for years while he spewed his bile so Fux is on the hook for all the shit he said and did while in their employ.

I hope Smartmatic finished the job Dominion started and Grossberg puts them in the grave. Murdoch needs to die in penury for his lies.

by Anonymousreply 70May 3, 2023 5:55 PM

“This is not how white men fight” reminds me of little Jodie lisping about the Marquess of Queensberry on FAMILY AFFAIR.

by Anonymousreply 71May 3, 2023 6:03 PM

R70- I believe you are right. Murdoch didn't fire his cash cow and fascist weapon against democracy without a very good reason. We just don't know what that reason is. TC had dinner with the Murdoch family one week before he was fired from FN. TC supposedly did not see that coming, he thought things were fine between them.

by Anonymousreply 72May 3, 2023 6:06 PM
Not buying that this text or blog post is what got that shitstain fired.
It was something far worse.

I don't doubt it was one of the things that got him fired, but I agree that there is much worse floating around out there.

"Releasing" this one means that it's the one that is bad enough for people to believe the story, but is actually the least offensive of what he wrote. This is a diversion for damage control - whether by Fox or Carlson. But, make no mistake, it's hardly the worst.

by Anonymousreply 73May 3, 2023 6:08 PM

They should turn over everything to DOJ and Jack Smith.

I'm glad they are nailing the MAGATs but could we PLEASE nail some VIPS?? For crissakes they are dragging this out and its very cynical and very destructive. This protection of the VIPS.

It’s true. White men do a lot of crying and whining before they attack a minority.

by Anonymousreply 75May 3, 2023 8:33 PM

I think it was a statement akin to white man can’t jump or white men don’t have rhythm. It’s more a statement of the limitations of white men.

by Anonymousreply 76May 3, 2023 8:37 PM

A black guy on Twitter remarked that if any "brother" had said, "That's not how black men fight", the people clutching their pearls about Tucker would have zero problem with it. One reason why so many white people think they're superior is that they are always held to a higher standard than minorities.

by Anonymousreply 77May 3, 2023 8:59 PM
It’s true. White men do a lot of crying and whining before they attack a minority.

Well sure. If minorities didn't upset them so much, they wouldn't be forced to attack and kill minorities. It's always the fault of minorities. They're being blamed for something that isn't their fault.

I'd cry too at the injustice of it all.
