It’s the regular crew. Atlantis only brings in its own entertainers,, this time including Todrick Hall and Billy Porter. They also have techs for the DJ equipment and their own sound systems and lighting packages. They have their own cruise director (who works with the Royal Caribbean CD, who is also a gay man), support staff, and what are essentially paramedics who help out anyone who ODs. My friend and I left New York on Friday, and we crashed in a decent hotel, before going to the cruise port. I also went to the party that night, but wasn’t feeling it, so I ended up coming back to the room and crashing. The next day was in the Royal Caribbean private beach in Haiti, Labadee. I decided to try and conquer my fear of heights, so I did the Caribbean’s longest zip line and went parasailing. The party that night was a 80s and 90s flashback. It was fantastic. Next day, Curaçao. Probably my favorite port. There was no t dance because of being in port, but there was a DJ spinning at night, and then another party afterword. That was the day I met my twink. I know it sounds like a whore-y drugged out mess, and I guess it was, but just the energy and the people were beyond what I can describe. I can talk about how I hated Todrick Hall’s performance (I admit he was great, but not my thing), Billy Porter was amazing, and the the drag queens were great. Like anything, your experience on these cruises has a lot to do with how you approach it. If you’re relaxed, focused on your own experience while open to possibilities, and “go with the flow” socially, you’re likely to have a great time. There's a significant difference to me between doing illegal drugs and drinking alcohol. All the gay doctors I dated were heavy drinkers and/or did drugs. I may not have had sex with enough of a sample but I got the sense that the stress of becoming and then being a doctor and gay was tremendous.
