AOC facing House ethics investigation after ‘Tax the Rich’ Met Gala freebie

Instagram “was able to purchase access to Representative Ocasio-Cortez that is unavailable to average citizens” by sponsoring a table at the gala.

The second ethics complaint, filed by the National Legal and Policy Center, alleged that the borrowed white Brother Vellies gown worn by AOC — which featured the alleged “Tax The Rich” in red lettering on the back — constituted an impermissible gift because it was “directly related to AOC’s ‘position with the House’ as a highly visible and controversial Member.”

The NY Post, OP?

And who's on the "ethics" committee? Marjorie Taylor Gunt?

by Anonymousreply 1December 7, 2022 10:23 PM

AOC is a tone deaf idiot and hypocrite.

by Anonymousreply 2December 7, 2022 10:24 PM

At least AOC didn't side with insurrectionists like Marjorie Taylor Gunt.

by Anonymousreply 3December 7, 2022 10:27 PM

R3 okay… two things can’t be true at once? You’re brainwashed. Think for yourself. MTG is a crazy cunt who supports violent, AOC is a crazy cunt who is full of shit. Both true.

by Anonymousreply 4December 7, 2022 10:31 PM

I really don't care.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 5December 7, 2022 10:46 PM

R4, AOC is not a cunt. Gunt is. Now fuck off. This whole committee thing to investigate what is essentially nothing is a far from cry from Gunt and her approval of coup plotters.

by Anonymousreply 6December 7, 2022 11:08 PM

R4 thinks a congresswoman who supports violence is no worse than a congresswoman like AOC, who's guilty of...what, exactly?

r4=MAGAt.

by Anonymousreply 7December 7, 2022 11:10 PM

So it's just petty BS as expected

by Anonymousreply 8December 7, 2022 11:42 PM

Just dropping this here for our communal edification:

[quote]The National Legal and Policy Center is a right-wing 501 non-profit group that monitors and reports on the ethics of public officials, supporters of liberal causes, and labor unions in the United States.

by Anonymousreply 9December 7, 2022 11:44 PM

So the bullshit that is this "ethics" committee was exposed in under 9 posts.

by Anonymousreply 10December 7, 2022 11:46 PM

Sorry--exactly 9 posts.

by Anonymousreply 11December 7, 2022 11:47 PM

I know DL is gong to be happy that AOC is finally going to be held accountable.

by Anonymousreply 12December 8, 2022 12:26 AM

This is bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 13December 8, 2022 12:28 AM

Accountable for what, R12?

by Anonymousreply 14December 8, 2022 12:31 AM

No, darling, R12, but you seem to be gleeful. By the way, nothing will happen, MAGAt.

by Anonymousreply 15December 8, 2022 12:32 AM

AOC wants free healthcare and college education by raising taxes on the ultra-wealthy. MTG wants a theocratic white ethnostate that outlaws abortion and homosexuality. They are not the same. Stop conflating them. You look like a moron.

One of these people wants to see gay people disappear from the face of the earth, along with the rest of their party. Stop giving them cover.

by Anonymousreply 16December 8, 2022 12:32 AM

Witch hunt! Fake news! Targeted political attack !

by Anonymousreply 17December 8, 2022 12:37 AM

It's so funny the way that Nazis insist that anyone who has concern for the poor should live like a beggar under a bridge.

SHE SAYS SHE WANTS TO HELP THE POOR BUT SHE COMBS HER HAIR!! AND WEARS CLOTHES!!! AND DRIVES IN A CAR!!! HYPOCRITE!!!!

What fucking idiots.

by Anonymousreply 18December 8, 2022 3:56 AM

Fuck Rupert Murdoch's NYPost!

by Anonymousreply 19December 8, 2022 4:17 AM

OP is also:

*Agenda much? The Liberal media is just as hypocritical as the conservatives*

[quote]There is no more objective press in this country. While Fox News will run negative stories about conservatives but bury and spin it, I’ve noticed that liberal media has become so polarized to the point they won’t even run stories against their agenda. This AOC story, good luck finding it on any liberal sites.

by Anonymousreply 20December 8, 2022 4:30 AM

I guess this argument could be made if she kept the dress, but not if she only borrowed it. I bet she wasn't smart enough to know that. I honestly think it is really about fundraising and campaign spending. Members of Congress go to fancy events all the time, plus she was likely someone's guest there and didn't buy anything.

by Anonymousreply 21December 8, 2022 4:38 AM

Oh, please.

by Anonymousreply 22December 8, 2022 5:37 AM

1. MTG is human garbage. Everything she does is wrong and disgusting. However, she's not involved in this incident with AOC. And to steer this conversation into something all about her, means you are no better than a Trumper.

2. If AOC received tickets worth $35,000 & the dress, she needed to declare it. That's the rules. She should have to follow the rules, just like all the other politicians should.

3. She was a tone deaf idiot for going to this event. She was so pleased with herself for being at this event and having all that money spent on her. She rags on the rich, day and night, but loves to be around them, as well as the finer things in life. There's no law against that, but she comes off as hypocrite. This kind of bullshit is not helpful to the democrats. And no, I don't expect her to run around in a potato sack, but I also don't expect her show off like a kardashian that she got to go to an event where 2 tickets are $35,000.

by Anonymousreply 23December 8, 2022 5:47 AM

[quote]anyone who has concern for the poor

You don't credit for having "concern for the poor" when you only give away other people's money. You could get credit if you sacrificed and gave your own money.

by Anonymousreply 24December 8, 2022 6:03 AM

It's a nothingburger!

by Anonymousreply 25December 8, 2022 7:41 AM

[quote]when you only give away other people's money

Yes! Let's make sure Elon Musk's 20 children don't have to pay any taxes!!!!

by Anonymousreply 26December 8, 2022 11:09 AM

She means well but I don't think she is that bright.

by Anonymousreply 27December 8, 2022 11:13 AM

"She was a tone deaf idiot for going to this event. She was so pleased with herself for being at this event and having all that money spent on her."

R23, she had every right to go to a charity event. And what money was spent on her? She wore a borrowed dress and she was given a ticket to an event at which free tickets are given every year to some. She committed no ethics violations--none.

by Anonymousreply 28December 8, 2022 1:06 PM

Maybe she was “showing off like a Kardashian” or maybe she was working to get more attention for her causes and working to meet rich and powerful people who can financially support her initiatives that help her constituents.

Of course, this is Datalounge where we hate the people like Alexandria who support gays while we drool over straight guys.

by Anonymousreply 29December 8, 2022 1:16 PM

What do straight guys have to do with it, R29? Can't we like AOC and like (certain) straight guys?

by Anonymousreply 30December 8, 2022 1:19 PM

R10 You seem a bit confused. Perhaps you did too many poppers in the Seventies.

The House Ethics Committee is a standing committee of the House of Representatives, and investigates accusations made against members for unethical conduct. It's evenly split between the two parties, and has a reputation for fair and thorough investigations. It is not some phony cause that you can dismiss.

The NLPC is indeed a partisan watchdog, but so what? There are dozens of these groups on both sides, and while they sometimes make a lot of empty noise, they also occasionally catch legitimate wrongdoing. They're the only ones willing to dig in the dirt these days, now that our corporate-owned media have pivoted to celebrity gossip and human interest nonsense.

I for one think they're a whackjob organization, but they seem to have a point here. AOC accepted a gift from a company with business before the Congress, which she was ethically bound to decline and/or reimburse. She didn't do that. It's not an offense worthy of expulsion or criminal referral, but it's a fuck-up just the same. Chickie-pie needs to follow the same rules as everyone else.

by Anonymousreply 31December 8, 2022 1:24 PM

[quote]She rags on the rich, day and night, but loves to be around them, as well as the finer things in life. There's no law against that, but she comes off as hypocrite.

It's ridiculous to say that no one can care about the poor or working class unless they eschew all of the "finer things in life."

by Anonymousreply 32December 8, 2022 1:24 PM

[quote]The NLPC is indeed a partisan watchdog, but so what?

Oh, fuck off, asshole.

by Anonymousreply 33December 8, 2022 1:24 PM

Mary R31, if you think they have a "point" here, you just told us everything we need to know about you. This is nothing, and nothing will come of it. Sorry, MAGAt, but this will go the way of all the other bullshit investigations your tribe will try to drum up. Pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 34December 8, 2022 1:28 PM

R34 I'm not in that "tribe." Nor am I a "MAGAt" or a Mary.

I'm just someone who follows the rules in life, and expects elected leaders to do the same. Maybe if AOC spent less time on Instagram and more time reading the rules of her place of employment, this crackpot group wouldn't have the goods on her. She brought this headache on herself through her own clumsiness.

by Anonymousreply 35December 8, 2022 1:31 PM

Bullshit, R35. You read like a MAGAt, banging on about AOC (always a sign in and of itself) as if she committed some horrible ethics breach over wearing a borrowed dress and accepting a free ticket to a charity event. This will be no headache for her.

by Anonymousreply 36December 8, 2022 1:35 PM

I love her and her troll game. She's the only one telling MTG to go fuck herself

by Anonymousreply 37December 8, 2022 1:41 PM

That must have been some freebie for the House ethics committee to be investigating auto erotic asphyxiation!

by Anonymousreply 38December 8, 2022 1:50 PM

R36 An ethics breach is an ethics breach. You don't get to simply ignore some rules because the offense was small and seems harmless to you. And you don't get to look the other way because you happen to like the person being accused. That's now how it works in a society of laws.

This is how corruption always starts. A harmless little loaned dress. A free meal at a "charity" event. A little gift here, a little gift there, and it's all so small you'd never notice. And before long, the recipient starts changing their voting patterns. Influence isn't bought with a pile of cash. It's bought one sneaky little gift at a time. AOC prides herself on being a detail-oriented thinker, so she surely knows this. And if she's as honorable and clean as she believes she is, then she'll let House Ethics look into the matter and clear her.

Most Ethics investigations, by the way, end up with the member being cleared of any wrongdoing. Most of the time, it's just hot air. But when they refuse to cooperate, and noisily swear they did nothing wrong, then it becomes a spectacle.

by Anonymousreply 39December 8, 2022 1:57 PM

[quote]An ethics breach is an ethics breach.

[quote]Most Ethics investigations, by the way, end up with the member being cleared of any wrongdoing. Most of the time, it's just hot air.

You don't read what you write before you hit post, do you?

by Anonymousreply 40December 8, 2022 2:00 PM

R40 is a dumbass

by Anonymousreply 41December 8, 2022 2:02 PM

HAHAHAHA! What R40 said!

by Anonymousreply 42December 8, 2022 2:03 PM

Why, R41? For pointing out the ridiculous contradiction in what R39 said?

R39, there was no ethics breach. You can fuck that chicken all you like. Corruption? Over a borrowed dress and a ticket? Oh, my sides! It's the fact that she was there and wearing that dress and that she trolled MAGAts like you. And woh said she would refuse to cooperate?

by Anonymousreply 43December 8, 2022 2:04 PM

R41, you might want to stop posting now.

by Anonymousreply 44December 8, 2022 2:05 PM

R41 (the OP) needs to go back to his thread where he's asking everyone to give him a list of all their prescription medications.

by Anonymousreply 45December 8, 2022 2:07 PM

Here's real corruption--MAGAt style.

R45 one of the resident Troll Inspectors, who has any exciting life of ignoring posters and “exposing” them.

by Anonymousreply 47December 8, 2022 2:13 PM

Yep it's always the gop doing the real crimes and ethics violations but they screech in outrage over democrats doing minor shit and demand investigations.

by Anonymousreply 48December 8, 2022 2:15 PM

Hmmm...a dress and a free ticket to a charity event OR stealing millions meant to go for Covid relief and then pushing through a "Stop Saying Gay" bill?

by Anonymousreply 49December 8, 2022 2:19 PM

Now, now, r49...OP has her priorities!

by Anonymousreply 50December 8, 2022 2:21 PM

R49 we should investigate MTG and any others too, Republicans or Democrats. Did I say we should not? It’s just fun to show people on your same team being hypocrites. Just stop. Shall we discuss Nancy’s insider trading? The woman whose net worth has went up by tens of millions since 2008.

You’re just as bad as republicans who turn a blind eye, it’s pathetic

by Anonymousreply 51December 8, 2022 2:31 PM

Riley looked very spiffy in his tux! The navy was a beautiful choice. I wish he looked that good all the time.

by Anonymousreply 52December 8, 2022 2:32 PM

What's pathetic is you, R51. YOU should just stop. How many people here need to laugh at you? I refer you to R46.

by Anonymousreply 53December 8, 2022 2:35 PM

OP, why did you start a thread asking people to list their prescription medication? That's sus as hell. Do you work for a pharma company?

by Anonymousreply 54December 8, 2022 2:36 PM

R51 also conveniently says not a word about the MAGAt politicians who gave "tours" of the interior of the Capitol building the day before to the coup plotters.

Did I mention JANUARY 6? So shut the fuck up.

by Anonymousreply 55December 8, 2022 2:37 PM

[quote]The woman whose net worth has went up

by Anonymousreply 56December 8, 2022 2:41 PM

R55 “conveniently” … lol go douche your stinky hole for a pounding that’ll never happen, you fat bottom.

by Anonymousreply 57December 8, 2022 2:45 PM

You bitches better listen because Mizz Yassss Kween R55 is in the house and she is holding court, Hunty! Yassss! Boots da house down for the insurrection because since dem MAGA hoes did that can’t no democrat do nuffin wrong. Never.

by Anonymousreply 58December 8, 2022 2:48 PM

R58 The week is long enough already without reading your typed-out Blaccent. Spare us.

by Anonymousreply 59December 8, 2022 2:50 PM

I guess this is supposed to be the outrage du jour now that the Hunter Biden dick pic unveiling failed to cause the American public to rise up as one, hang Joe and Kamala, and install Donald as dictator for life.

by Anonymousreply 60December 8, 2022 2:52 PM

R57, you're a stupid gash who didn't answer my question because you have no answer. Loser.

As for R58, please, Cunty.

by Anonymousreply 61December 8, 2022 2:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 63December 8, 2022 3:01 PM

We’re already investigating January 6th…

Criminal recommendations are being made…

by Anonymousreply 64December 8, 2022 3:03 PM

The Nazi playbook is to commit huge, glaring crimes but then try and muddy the waters by accusing their rivals of stealing stamps or making a data entry error and hoping the American people are dumb enough not to see the difference.

So far, it seems that they're right.

by Anonymousreply 65December 8, 2022 3:05 PM

Bullshit, R64. None of those co-plotting MAGAt pols have been before any "ethics" committee. You can't sweep that under some MAGAt rug.

by Anonymousreply 67December 8, 2022 3:08 PM

So, R66 seems to think a borrowed dress is a crime like an attempted government coup.

by Anonymousreply 68December 8, 2022 3:09 PM

Oh, that's charming, R69--wishing someone cancer because you can't defend yourself in an argument on Datalounge. Fucking MAGAt scum.

by Anonymousreply 70December 8, 2022 3:16 PM

A new troll or just another sockpuppet R69?

Bye magat.
