LIVERPOOL UK
Just finished watching Drag Race UK and Liverpool so far has made a significant impression on the show.
Wondering what the climate was like in the past, like say when the Beatles were stomping around there, to now. Has it mostly remained to same? Gotten more liberal or was it always somewhat liberal?
I'm a Yank and not well traveled, just trying to get a picture of what it is like to live in Liverpool.

All I know is people here and elsewhere groaned when it was selected to host Eurovision next year. Apparently, there's not much to it.

There are at least two really spectacular drag queens from there r1.
Don't know if either of them can sing though.

R2 the Garlands gay/drag club on Eberle Street was one of the most historied and illustrious and respected in the U.K, especially in the 1980s & 90s. Sadly, it closed for good in 2019, after having downsized and moved location in 2017.
Stanley Street quarter is still kind of a gay hotspot in the City, arguably a shade of what it was, though.

[quote]She told the ECHO: "It was very much a time of being in love with Clubland. A lot of people from different walks of life finally came together under one big flag of love peace and unity.
Makes me think of some of the clubs in the 70's/80's in New York. Places where everyone from all walks of life would come to dance and party. The small but mighty, Pyramid in particular.

Some of the young straight lads of Liverpool are open to getting pegged, apparently.

Native Liverpudlians typically speak their mind more openly and invite more conversation with strangers than than many or most Britons, I would say. It's their working-class solidarity & pride plus their focus on sustaining a large urban community that makes them that way. They just love a natter, and can and will usually talk for England (which Americans seem to appreciate). The locals say that if you buy in to their City's ethos & wellbeing, and make effort to naturalise and assimilate well, then you're part of the family and officially a Liver Bird, regardless of where you came from originally. It's history as a port city full of immigrants makes it amenable to newcomers and fresh blood, it seems.
By contrast, much of the North & the South both is full of far more reticent and blunt regional personalities. And the rural communities or wealthy enclaves of the country are another level of social aversion again--if you're an outsider to that sort of community, you will have a far harder time settling in as a citizen and connecting with anyone.
