R5 they probably all had a major freakout and thought they were dying, had anxiety, palpitations, maybe elevated HR and BP, etc.

My uncle was a pharma rep in the heyday of mood-altering pharmaceuticals. He’d give my grandma boxes of Valium samples…she’d share them to her old lady friends, apparently. Anyway, I’d sneak some home when I’d visit in 8th-9th grade to give out at school because I wanted the other kids to like me. It fucking worked. I stopped after 9th grade when I realized how much trouble i could get in to. I never took any myself, which is weird. These days I’d LOVE to have a Valium now and then!
This was the Midwest in the 80s.
