This song came out when I was in high school and was so overplayed on indie radio (compounded by the cover version by Birdy, released when I was in college) that it drove me nuts. I heard the studio version more times than I can count. Maybe I was just a pretentious cunt, but it wasn't until I saw (and heard) this stripped-down live rendition that I was blindsided by it—a gutting performance that really made me appreciate the song like I never had.
Popular songs you originally dismissed that are actually great

Ever since it came on my shuffle at work, I’ve realized it’s a great song.

I always hated “cock rock”. Always hated poppy metal / rock. Always preferred The Strokes and Jack White and etc.
But I’ve found a new love for this song recently. I used to mock it when I was younger but it’s a great song.

Not too far off from your target, I hope, OP...
I liked earlier versions of Leonard Cohen's 1967 'Suzanne,' but only recently I rediscovered Nina Simone's versions and they made me appreciate anew a.song that I had come to dismiss as having gone trite to my ear.
