Fox isn't even reporting on the recent Special Masters halt. They want him to go away at this point.
My greater concern is that fucking trash like Aileen Cannon comes to this nation and grows up to shit on it by becoming a corrupt judge. How can anyone coming before her even take her seriously? She has absolutely no business whatsoever presiding over any cases. Let her go do lap dances at fed. society gatherings.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | December 2, 2022 1:00 AM |
He's toast.
I predicted at the end of August, when Trump insisted he wanted the search warrant released and Merrick Garland called his bluff and filed a request with the Court to do so, that Trump will be subject to a federal indictment.
Garland isn't fucking around.
And the DOJ has the wind at its back with the guilty verdict on seditious looter Rhodes, the judicial bitch slap to Judge Cannon , and, while I don't think Garland would let it influence him, it can't hurt that Trump's popularity with sane, moderate Americans is non-existent.

And yes, I know that Garland's decision to appoint a special counsel caused a lot of anxiety but it was the right one.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | December 2, 2022 1:11 AM |
We'll see r4, but I stand by my prediction that Trump will be indicted on whatever is the applicable federal law on the documents matter.
One of the standards that Garland said would be applied in the docs matter is if other Americans, similarly situated, who had unauthorized possession of classified documents, were also prosecuted.
Those are ominous words. They're another "Trump isn't above the law" shot across the bow.

DeSantis is more dangerous because he appears sane. Key word appears.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 2, 2022 1:43 AM |
I think DeSantis is far worse - the 'saving' grace of Trump is that he's so obvious and ham-fisted.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 2, 2022 1:46 AM |
If Desantis is the Repug nominee to be the POTUS, he won't be able to moderate, nor will he get by with trying to, for a national, electorate audience, the crazy-ass, in-Florida, right-wing, anti-Gay, bigoted, cruel, stunts-driven persona and positions.
He'll try; oh, will he try, and it'll be fun to watch, but, his appeal stops at the Florida border.
I predicted it before and I'll do it again. The nominee will be Nikki Haly, and she ain't settling for VP.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 2, 2022 2:01 AM |
His greatest interest is in remaining king of his party. More so than getting elected. He apparently thinks there are enough crazies to get him nominated in a crowded primary field. And I wouldn’t bet against him. Of course, he’ll never win a general election.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 2, 2022 2:03 AM |
DeSantis will rationalize the extremism, he won’t be crazy like Kanye West or Trump, he’ll be real stealth.

It's not just Florida. It's the Republican party as a whole. They have become an absolute trash party. McCarthy's priorities alone have shown you they will continue to be trash. Investigating the 1/6 COMMITTEE and throwing people off of committees out of spite and GOP bigotry. 🙄
by Anonymous | reply 26 | December 2, 2022 2:21 PM |
DeSantis won't last. His voice alone is fucking annoying. That blobfish better stick to his own pond, because he's not polished enough to be a national figure. Someone like Gavin Newsom or Biden would wipe the floor with him.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | December 2, 2022 2:27 PM |
Yeah, that Atlantic article pretty effectively argues that DeSantis is a paper tiger. Worth reading. He's holding the place for all the MAGA/Republican base's hope for "someone better than cray cray Don" who can win etc.
Youngkin or Haley would be a smarter bet than DeSantis at this point.

[quote] Youngkin or Haley would be a smarter bet than DeSantis at this point.
Would either have the juice needed in today's GQP?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 2, 2022 3:07 PM |
Youngkin will do whatever it takes and since he is a straight, white protestant guy, they can buy into him. I think Nikki Haley would have a harder time. You can say "if she's good enough for S. Carolina..." and there is force to that, but she has gone back and forth on Trump so much it's ludicrous. I think she would not be trusted.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | December 2, 2022 7:00 PM |
It is FAR from clear that Trump is done. I think that's wishful.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | December 2, 2022 7:00 PM |
Nikki Haley can't commit to what she's going to have for dinner tonight, let alone anything else. And that's how she's perceived: as the female version of Kevin McCarthy.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | December 2, 2022 7:02 PM |
In some ways, Youngkin is even more dangerous than DeSantis. Youngkin has his nice gold ole boy Andy Griffith demeanor which masks his true MAGA leanings - he's as bad with Don't Say Gay as DeSantis is. Moderates would take to Youngkin much more easily than to grumpy DeSantis.
I don't see the MAGA crowd coalescing around Haley, and those are the ones who vote in the primaries. They'd prefer a female candidate along the lines of Marsha Blackburn, and not just because she's white.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 2, 2022 8:21 PM |
Youngkin showed who he was (putting aside the disgusting snitch-line/CRT bullshit) with that Pelosi comment after her husband was brutally-attacked. Either he is fucking trash or he knows the types of people who could ever support him are fucking trash, so he has to appeal to them in the most low class ways.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 2, 2022 8:53 PM |
People like Larry Hogan are looking to run for president and I'd consider voting for him if he continued to be a moderate Republican. He has no chance with that party of parasites, specifically because he's normal.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 2, 2022 9:07 PM |
I wonder what days at Mar-a-Lago are like? Is he having a ball being the spoiled brat he's always been, reeling with glee when he's the main topic of every news outlet? Or is it Nixon-esque, sitting in dark rooms and wondering how his Xanadu turned into Xanadont?
He needs a rally. I bet he wants so bad to go to Georgia and make it all about him, but no invitations are being extended. Strange, since Herschel Bar has praised everything Trump.

by Anonymous | reply 39 | December 2, 2022 11:22 PM |
R38, the hell with the NYT. He's over because election day proved he was. Outside of gerrymandered districts and solidly-red states, his trash candidates have no chance in state-wide elections.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | December 2, 2022 11:24 PM |
I think there’s a whole lot of people that are going to come out of the woodwork like Kanye did and tell all the behind the scenes shenanigans.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 2, 2022 11:24 PM |
Youngkin not only does genial much better than DeSantis, but he is quite tall, not dumpy like RDS. DeSantis is okay looking if he loses weight, but a short guy like that cannot carry much weight without looking bloated. DeSantis also has a whiny voice. He was an athlete in college, but his sport was baseball, which doesn't require the fitness other spots do, and it was a while ago.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 2, 2022 11:28 PM |
He may, I believe, be done in terms of being president again. But he's not done in GOP politics, including his abillity to get the nomination.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | December 2, 2022 11:28 PM |
If he can win the nomination there is always a chance he can be elected. Maybe not a 50-50 chance, but if things are going really badly in the country -not necessarily because Biden did anything wrong, he could win. He will never win the popular vote, but he could eke out an electoral college win. It's not how I'd bet today. I think Biden would beat him (and Biden is running, barring a health issue not yet evident). But he is still dangerous.

Matt Big-Forehead Gaetz has not been charged for anything whatsoever, so why will Trump? The Democrats are weak-willed and wrong-headed, just like Obama. That's why the Repugs can always shit on their faces with so many lies and untruths. They need some Democrats like Meghan Markles who so utterly has neither shame nor qualms about attacking other people with her bald-faced lies and untruths.

I dont know why people assume the Trump cultists will just move over to someone new like DeSantis. That's not how a cult of personality works. When Trump is over, most of his cultists will go back to their trailer parks and never vote again because they are convinced the system is rigged.

The advantage of prosecuting Jan. 6 insurrectionists starting with the rioters and slowly working their way up is that they’re scaring the piss out of those further up, who have to be wondering where they’ll stop. Okay they p r o b a b l y won’t charge Donald, but even he can’t sustain the fantasy of a secret army of Trumpists capable of overthrowing the government.

They definitely are gunning for Trump and many others around him who also committed crimes. I am sure he will be indicted, probably in January (although I would love if they indicted him right before Christmas).
The only thing I don’t know is how do you put a President in jail when he’s entitled to Secret Service protection. Maybe Maralago becomes his permanent prison and he’s sentenced to house arrest.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | December 14, 2022 4:26 AM |

R57 This is maybe true of real "cultists", but the question is how many of those are there, really? The very large majority of Trump voters were always Republicans who thought he was just fine or better than the wicked Dems. They didn't mind or even liked the racism and authoritarianism and dismissed the corruption, but most of them were already voting R before he came along and will be if he leaves the scene. These people are in their way more infuriating than people who've been zombified- they saw it all, knew what it was and were like "he's fine".
by Anonymous | reply 68 | December 26, 2022 12:13 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 76 | December 26, 2022 1:02 PM |
Christie was like Trump Lite (the only way in which he is lite). Loudmouth from the tristate area.
They're all bad, but I would prefer him to Trump or DeSantis, not that it matters. He is reasonably knowledgable and is just a normal Jersey political asshole and bully, without Trump's truly deranged aspect and lack of boundaries and without DeSantis's serious authoritarianism and humorlessness. Of course Christie has no base and his only relevance is that the media still invites him on shows for whatever reason. If something happens to DeSantis it's going to be Youngkin or someone else with a more conservative profile than Christie.

I’m hoping that a healthy(ish) Biden runs for re-election. It’s very difficult to defeat an incumbent president, even more so when the president has no serious primary and/or 3rd-party challenger. Before Trump in ‘20, the last such president to not be re-elected was Hoover, in 1932. I have to think a young man like DeSantis has to be weighing risking the wrath of Trump diehards - as well as wilting in the face of Trump attacks - in the face of the great odds of succeeding running against an incumbent president.
