All my adult life, I've wanted a Victorian Armchair on Casters, with turned-wood feets and a shocking, modern upholstery

And now, finally, I have it. First night in my bedroom. I've dropped ten years. I feel fresh, my skin is glowing, I look better than I have in 15 years, I smile at myself in the bathroom mirror, I feel pretty. Are you bitches happy for me ?

Amazing what good stuff can do.

There's more of a chance of my finding a husband on Grindr than my being happy for you.

by Anonymousreply 4August 19, 2022 5:13 AM

isn't it R3 ? Only now do I realize just how much I needed it.

by Anonymousreply 5August 19, 2022 5:14 AM

Op, I am happy for you. Put your feet up and smile.

by Anonymousreply 6August 19, 2022 5:19 AM

The feets are the best part.

by Anonymousreply 7August 19, 2022 5:21 AM

OP, I get a page of images of various and sundry pieces of furniture, so I have no idea what has restored you so? Quite frankly for me, if I ever came into ownership of an original Herter Brothers chair, I think those things would most likely happen to me as well. Those boys did some incredible design work, but by and far their chairs blow any others out the water from any time period in their beauty, form and elegance. Each is like it’s own sculpture and masterpiece work of art.

His turned-wood feets.

by Anonymousreply 9August 19, 2022 5:22 AM

Thanks R6, I always thought it would be forever too expensive for me. I feel that I'm arrived. yes R7 , and in my case, the wheels are made of white ceramic...I cum a little typing this

by Anonymousreply 10August 19, 2022 5:23 AM

Victorian shit is ugly 😠

by Anonymousreply 11August 19, 2022 5:23 AM

Carolyn Burnham : "Uh, whose car is that out front?"

Lester Burnham : "Mine. 1970 Pontiac Firebird. The car I've always wanted and now I have it. I rule!"

by Anonymousreply 12August 19, 2022 5:24 AM

Well R8, it's an adorable easy chair with a low back and a large frame, it's incredibly comfy, has slighly curved , outward pointing wings, and dainty feets on white ceramic wheels. I've chosen a bold red and white checked gingham cotton upholstery, and I'm on cloud 9.

by Anonymousreply 13August 19, 2022 5:29 AM

Those Herter Bros chairs are beautiful. Almost look ceremonial or Masonic. I would want a matching table and a large crystal ball. It all goes with the turbin/caftan ensemble, too.

by Anonymousreply 14August 19, 2022 5:35 AM

I forgot, I'd want a Ouija board also.

by Anonymousreply 15August 19, 2022 5:36 AM

Those Herter Bros chairs look like Joan Fontaine's chairs in SUSPICION

by Anonymousreply 16August 19, 2022 5:38 AM

Refreshing to see antiques getting some love.

by Anonymousreply 17August 19, 2022 5:38 AM

R14 Those were dining room chairs, but this library table from the same Rockefeller house fits the aesthetic you’re going for exactly.

Or at least inferior replicas much like my sister in relation to me.

R8 those chairs are very cool

Victorian furniture and interiors are fantastic, but I would go for a traditional upholstery like these ones

If you're happy, OP....then I'm happy. 😂 I like the settees.

by Anonymousreply 23August 19, 2022 5:57 AM

R22 I've watched the shit out of every HOUSE AND GARDEN vid, and traditional upholstery like these ones are NOT in fashion

by Anonymousreply 24August 19, 2022 5:57 AM

thank you R23, I heart you

by Anonymousreply 25August 19, 2022 5:58 AM

R18 here, sorry that table and the chairs are Vanderbilt, not Rockefeller, I was looking something else up at the same time, thinking the Worsham-Rockefeller house was done by the Herters, but it was the other Aesthetic firm Schastey and Co.

by Anonymousreply 26August 19, 2022 5:59 AM

But can you fuck on it?

by Anonymousreply 27August 19, 2022 7:19 AM

R27 No no no, think of the ceramic casters, I won't ruin 20 years of waiting for one minute of Monkeypox ecstasy

by Anonymousreply 28August 19, 2022 7:25 AM

I love furniture on casters, it’s such a look.

by Anonymousreply 29August 19, 2022 8:37 AM

Here’s a Herter Brothers chair with casters. Are they always on just the front?

I was watching old episodes of Antiques Roadshow and the expert literally started crying when he laid eyes on this one rare antique chair! I was blown away!

by Anonymousreply 31August 19, 2022 9:03 AM

MARY!!

by Anonymousreply 32August 19, 2022 9:09 AM

R31 Is it one that’s on the Roadshow TikTok page? Was it one of those blond twins, they get teary eyed over furniture all the time.

by Anonymousreply 33August 19, 2022 9:13 AM

LINK FAIL, OP

by Anonymousreply 34August 19, 2022 10:27 AM

I've always wanted a 210-220cm long sleigh bed. With an equally long mattress. Never bothered to get one custom made. I don have one extra long mattress on a simple frame. A half measure.

by Anonymousreply 35August 19, 2022 10:32 AM

I DO have

by Anonymousreply 36August 19, 2022 10:32 AM

Get an antique, r35. You could find a great British Colonial piece, and just have the slats adjusted

by Anonymousreply 37August 19, 2022 10:41 AM

^ and side rails. I know there are excellent craftsmen who do this in Vermont and N Carolina, probably Charleston as well

by Anonymousreply 38August 19, 2022 10:43 AM

Well you would need entirely new 210 or 220 structure. Replacing the original wood and metal. We are talking LENGTH, not the slats which are width.

by Anonymousreply 39August 19, 2022 10:45 AM

I'm scared!

by Anonymousreply 41August 19, 2022 10:55 AM

R24 I actually dont care that traditional upholstery is NOT in fashion, in fact that is part of the attraction for me

by Anonymousreply 42August 19, 2022 11:55 PM

I want one of these little metal stools, but with casters, so you slide them around, but when you sit on them, they stay put. These used to be everywhere, now you can't find them.

R43, like a doctor’s rolling stool?

by Anonymousreply 45August 20, 2022 4:26 PM

I have a bed like that, I use it as a sofa, with lots of oversized cushions. It's amazing how well something that's been made 100 + years ago holds up. I bought it for a whopping $ 65 at a flee market BTW

by Anonymousreply 46August 20, 2022 4:28 PM

that was for R44

by Anonymousreply 47August 20, 2022 4:28 PM

R45 - well, yes, I guess so. Maybe I should look at a doctors' supply company catalog.

by Anonymousreply 48August 21, 2022 4:02 PM

Not a doctors stool. They were found in drafting room, for example. They tended to be tall stools. When you sat on them, they sunk the final cm to the floor and were very stable. I remember them and haven't seen them in decades.
