In light of her passing, I revisited some of her films this past week—I rewatched "Donnie Brasco", which has long been a favorite of my dad's. The film is solid, and her acting in it is truly great. I also rewatched the divisive "Psycho" remake, and, despite any other misgivings, I thought she lent the Marion Crane role a nervy and at times funny energy. Lastly, I gave the more recent "My Friend Dahmer" a watch (hadn't seen it before), and loved her as Dahmer's eccentric, unstable mom—it (unfortunately) seemed to mimic her own personality in a lot of ways. She had a great screen presence and was really able to nail both drama and comedy, oftentimes simultaneously.
Her best performance? As a lesbian.
