Trump doesn’t have a shot in hell for the White House in ‘24, OP.
Which is why you better pray he gets the Republican nomination instead of Ron DeSantis.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 18, 2022 3:45 PM |
What R1 said. DeSantis is a much bigger threat at this point. Either of them would the end of democracy.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 18, 2022 3:49 PM |
My hope is that Trump gets the GOP nom in 2024, falls on his face in the general election, then gets the GOP nom in 2028 before losing in the general once again. He just keeps running and dooming the Republican Party in general elections until he drops dead.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 18, 2022 4:21 PM |
In principle, there's no way he'd be elected, he's just not that popular.
In fact, his allies are so committed to lying and cheating that he could easily get in with their help. (And they'll do the same for DeSantis if they have to.)
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 18, 2022 4:26 PM |
Desantis is scarier than Trump
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 18, 2022 4:28 PM |
Republican state legislatures have vowed to overturn election results if Democrats win. So it really doesn’t even matter at this point:

I think the stress of US politics is going to send me to an early grave.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 18, 2022 4:35 PM |
The problem is that since his defeat - Swing States governed by Republicans have elected "election deniers" or passed laws to suppress the vote, some states have done both
So if you think Trump supporters say the election was rigged, swing states that are governor by Trump allies have processes now to "rig" the system
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 18, 2022 4:36 PM |
Late last month, in one of its final acts of the term, the Supreme Court queued up another potentially precedent-wrecking decision for next year. The Court’s agreement to hear Moore v. Harper, a North Carolina redistricting case, isn’t just bad news for efforts to control gerrymandering. The Court’s right-wing supermajority is poised to let state lawmakers overturn voters’ choice in presidential elections.
The pernicious threat, wrote Richard L. Hasen, an election-law expert at UCLA, is that “a state legislature dominated by Republicans in a state won by Democrats could simply meet and declare that local administrators or courts have deviated from the legislature’s own rules, and therefore the legislature will take matters into its own hands and choose its own slate of electors.”
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 18, 2022 4:46 PM |
Well OP, I'm going to send you into apoplexy because he does have a shot, and unfortunately... a very good one!
WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE THAT ARE STILL CONTRIBUTING MONEY TO HIM??? To Trump's credit he has raised over $100MM but has spent only $5MM. This is driving the Republican establishment INSANE because it is he who controls the purse strings that is in charge. Good for Trump! The Republicans can't just dismiss him as if he were a used Kleenex.
But, I SO blame the Democrats for this mess!!! Where were they? Where are they now? Why isn't the message getting through that this current Republican "whatever" has done NOTHING for the average Joe/Jane citizen except destroy their quality of life and living?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 18, 2022 4:59 PM |

It is hard when you have Fox News and other "indie" news outlets on social media pushing a message for republicans
So all this gaslighting is hard to combat
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 18, 2022 5:08 PM |
Trump can't get elected by the will of the people, but Republicans are so dirty and shady they'll do anything to install him as President again. Or, if DeSantis runs and doesn't get enough votes, they'll do the same for him. That's what worries me.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 18, 2022 5:11 PM |
I'm more concerned about DeSantis than Trump when it comes to 2024. DeSantis is just fucking evil and has a better shot than Trump at this point. `

It took the 1/6 hearings to have opened their eyes? WTF? I knew at 6PM on 1/6/21 Trump and his band of thieves were entirely responsible for that shitstorm and should have been lined up and shot the next day.

We're fine. We'll just get Kamala to not certify the electoral votes.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 18, 2022 5:33 PM |
No way will he subject himself to that kind of nationally-televised public humiliation, onstage getting shredded at a debate. It's not 2016; he'll be a wheezy old man with a shabby record of scandal and failures.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 18, 2022 6:32 PM |
Trump lost the popular vote in 2016 by nearly three million. He lost both the popular and electoral college vote in 2020 despite being the incumbent. And his attempted coup in 2021 failed due to lack of interest. So you tell me why you’re so worried that he’s destined to become our leader in 2024.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 18, 2022 6:46 PM |

I'd pay good money to see Trump on a debate stage with Liz Cheney. But you're right, if he gets the nomination, there will be no 2024 debates.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 18, 2022 6:48 PM |
It would be weird if he ran while simultaneously being the defendant in a criminal trial. But if that’s what Republicans want, go for it. His running only helps Democrats because he will keep saying his election lies and being chaotic, which no one wants.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 18, 2022 6:52 PM |
I think we are seeing the end of our democracy. And we are at the end of our superpower status. The rich have taken over. and the republicans are just puppets for the rich. The rich don't care about this country they are all globalists now and not loyal to any one country.

You're correct. They did. Now, you see why Trump stands a very good chance of being POTUS again. It's because of a disinterested, uninformed, apathetic, electorate.

[quote] So you tell me why you’re so worried that he’s destined to become our leader in 2024.
In a free and fair election where the candidate who gets the most votes wins a state’s electoral college votes, tRump would never win. He has lost the popular vote twice and lost the EC in 2020. He has never been popular, and is less so now than ever before. People who are not in his crazy cult see him for the lying, cheating, traitor that he is. But, as others have mentioned, some state legislatures, dominated by Repukes, are itching to overturn legitimate election results and substrate their desires for the democratic will of the people. I think that we won’t know until after the midterms as to how much danger we are in. It will depend on how many Big Lie people are elected and where they are elected.
So, while there is a chance he could slither back into the WH, we won’t know how much of a danger we are in until we see who will be able to assist him in stealing an election.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 18, 2022 7:48 PM |
If Joe Biden doesn’t run, or Al Gore, then Trump can easily win the White House again. Only those two can beat Trump.

I don’t get Liz Cheney’s desire to run, Trump will clobber her, people gravitate towards extremists today.

[quote] I think that we won’t know until after the midterms as to how much danger we are in.
Tell me... What has to happen here (or, during the midterms) before we will "KNOW" what danger we are in? Women have lost their rights to control their own health and bodies; Voting Rights are being dismantled and those that are left are being suppressed; Obviously multi-billion dollar POLITICAL religious organizations are being given tax-exempt status; politicians and lawyers are submitting fake documentation, stealing voting machines, and passing/enacting laws that give them the right to overturn any result that they don't like. On and on...
You think we need more proof and examples that we are in danger?

by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 18, 2022 8:11 PM |
Not sure why so many people persist in believing that the popular vote in red or swing states will make any difference in 2024. Next year SCOTUS is going to grant state legislatures the unilateral right to select the winners of presidential primaries - and most state legislatures are controlled by the GQP. Also, this coming November several states are going to elect GQP Secretaries of State, which means their electoral systems will be under fascist control.
About half of US states are post-democracies now, or will soon be.

Politics are remarkably volatile right now. Six months ago no one thought SCOTUS would overturn Roe. Six months ago Republicans were sure to sweep the midterms. Six months ago people scoffed at the notion of the FBI raiding MAGA-Lardo to retrieve Top Secret documents related to nuclear warheads.
All bets are off for '24.

Nope. Not true. I always KNEW that it would happen and I blame women specifically for allowing it to happen. This has been a 40 year battle with the religious right and women simply allowed them to control the narrative.
[quote]Six months ago Republicans were sure to sweep the midterms.
Okay... this one did catch me by surprise...
[quote]Six months ago people scoffed at the notion of the FBI raiding MAGA-Lardo to retrieve Top Secret documents related to nuclear warheads.
Meaningless, unless something comes of it. Look... even Stevie Wonder would not have needed Ray Charles's help--dead and blind, to know that Trump was going to steal "something" in order to sell to HIGHEST bidder which will be Russia. Trump has a MAJOR, MAJOR, loan payment that will be due next year of which he doesn't have the money to cover... yet. This is not hard to see and know what is happening, happened, or will happen.

Sorry to say I can't comfort you OP. He will be the next President. We keep blowing past all the warning signs like they don't exist. At this point, our imbecile Democratic leaders have handed him the presidency in 2024. Oh, and DeSantis? Look for him as VP. They will crush the election with the new election laws and flaccid response that will occur if the Democrats challenge it.
Make plans if you can to have an escape from the country, as corporations will sit by as we fall into Christofascism along with the republic party of insanity.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 18, 2022 8:30 PM |
It's not novel, R40. It is and was the reality. Women should have been working to codify Roe ever since its inception. But, no... I tell ya... IMHO, we gays are going to face the same outcome if we don't get off of our asses (or someone's dick) and start doing something.

Yeah, I agree R46. It is the reason I am not particularly alarmed by all this. it is a symptom and I think most know what we are facing but would rather stick their head in the sand. the population will have largely disappeared by the middle of the century or e by 2060. The ocean is dying, there are methane bubbles frozen under the ice and they will cause severe climate disruption when they melt. Tons of carbon will fill the air. The last time this happened 260 million years ago it only took about 13 years for the life of the planet to die.

Let’s just say his winning the election is less of an impossibility than it was in 2016. He would have to convince voters though that he learned his lesson on why so many of his popular initiatives (e.g. the wall) failed and that he will do things differently this time. I don’t think he can. His primary opponents need to hammer home that while his issues were popular with his voters, he was unable to achieve them. DeSantis can capitalize on his own record of getting ideas enacted. Coulter is good at pointing out, for example, that Trump raises the issue of online censorship now, but he didn’t do anything about it during his administration. There’s no reason to think he would do better with a second opportunity.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 18, 2022 10:00 PM |
IMHO, it is no longer about Trump. It hasn't been for quite some time. This about right-wing extremism and Democrats (and the other sane people) had better get out on the streets to fight against it. The linked clip is 12min long but it is definitely worth watching at least the first 7 minutes.
