Thermal injuries are not necessarily burns. They can be the reaction of the body, including internal organs, to heat.

R4 Same here. I was in a terrible accident in which the car I was a passenger in was crushed by a dump truck. I was knocked out by the impact and came to a bit later trapped in the car. It took them an hour to get me out, which was annoying, but I was virtually unhurt- concussion was the major issue. The cops and EMS worker couldn't believe I'd survived based on how bad the wreck was.
