COCO GAUFF IS THE NEW NO. 1 PLAYER IN WOMEN'S TENNIS

In doubles. Sorry the hype on this girl is absurd. When Natalia Zvereva was no. 1 in women's doubles we never heard about it. The morons at TTC cannot STOP mentioning CoCo is no. 1 in doubles. Hate to say it, but that might turn out to be her career highlight. She hasn't won a tournament all year, and she's lucky to get to quarterfinals. At 18, Serena, Venus, Chrissie, Steffi, Martina, Tracy, Mags Court were all ahead of CoCo.

CoCo is questionable for the US Open. She has never gotten past the 3rd round in 4 attempts. She's still no. 1 in the world.

Good for her. Maybe doubles is here thing. It's a living!

American tennis media have really embarrassed themselves on the Coco front. The more of a non-thing she is, the harder they push her. Even live during matches she's losing.

by Anonymousreply 7August 20, 2022 10:20 PM

The hype is just not in proportion to her results. She's waaay behind other prodigies, and this is a wasteland era of women's tennis. Fed's got a piece of her, hence her devotion to Barilla pasta. If she would get rid of her daddy as coach, and find someone who understands tennis, she probably would climb over every one.

So? She's still a fresh young talent. The media's overpraise and exaggerations have dogged many tennis players going back to Chris Evert in 1971. NBC evening news once featured Serena Williams smiling as she shook hands with a player she had just beat. Relax, it's show business.

The original Coco is gonna be a dark horse for the US Open title....despite a bizzare microwave accident!

Chris Evert lived up to the hype. And then some.
