It's called Langya henipavirus and it has jumped from shrews to infecting humans.

However, there is currently no vaccine or treatment for Henipavirus and the only treatment is supportive care to manage complications.
The cases of Langya henipavirus so far have not been fatal or very serious, so there is no need for panic.

Not sure about the veracity of this news source but if true this will not be a benign illness.

by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 9, 2022 7:33 PM |
At this current time, we need to close international borders for international travel. It would cut down Covid cases dramatically and contain possible new pathogens coming in. We need a national lockdown or something of the sort, let everybody get over their infections and try again.
That’s the method that should’ve been used early pandemic, fuck the economy.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 9, 2022 7:38 PM |
A virus may not know international boundaries, but one country keeps bringing human in regular contact with wildlife which is hunted for food. China has got to stop doing this.
Leave the shrews alone!

OP’s linked article is confusing. In one paragraph they say data from WHO indicate it’s a “level 4” biosafety risk with a 40-75% fatality rate, and in the next there’s a guy saying cases haven t been that severe. Is the WHO data a guess or is it fir the poor little shrews?

China creates viruses.
It tests them on its disposable population.
It then lets them out into the world to cripple populations.
Why can’t people see that they are committing biological warfare????????
Wake up!

[quote] [R37] what exactly did you think I was saying?

I can't believe I have to explain this to you, Chinese travel all over the world if there is a virus it will travel with some of them, they take the virus with them to Kenya, Italy, the UK, Brazil people from those countries travel to the US and bring the virus with them. US citizens travel all over the world, so do the Chinese, US citizens will eventually bring any widely spread disease back with them. You would need to quarantine everyone including US citizens. We have people coming to the US illegally they would bring the virus, you just can't stop a virus from spreading in today's world.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | August 10, 2022 4:22 PM |
OMG, we all need to start wearing full size body condoms for protection from all these viruses, it's becoming more than tedious and I'm getting sick and tired of it, excuse me while I retire to my fainting couch and eat bon bons as the world goes to hell...

My favorite thing the Chinese ever did was in 2020, when they said "hey yall come home for lunar New Year, don't forget to load up on covid and then go fly back to the West and spread that shit around!".
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 10, 2022 4:48 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 97 | August 12, 2022 1:21 AM |
Viruses are carried high in the atmosphere too…they can be carried by weather patterns for thousands of miles. But humans are pretty well adapted to them; there are so many, we wouldn’t still be here otherwise. “Every day, between 260 million and 7 billion viruses descend on every square metre of the earth’s surface. The higher you go, the more viruses you will see swirling downward. The research was carried out on two mountain tops in Spain's Sierra Nevada, where billions of viruses are deposited every day. This makes the number of viruses that descend from the atmosphere onto the surface of the earth 9 to 461 times bigger than the figure applicable for bacteria.”
by Anonymous | reply 98 | August 12, 2022 9:04 PM |
There were even some scientists in Sri Lanka that attributed the spread of COVID to weather patterns, although I’m guessing that might be a fringe opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | August 12, 2022 9:13 PM |
But the association that the higher up in the atmosphere you are, the more viruses you have would explain why China tends to struggle so much with viruses. They have an average elevation of 6,037 feet above sea level, about 3 times higher than the US.
