Sandy Hook lawyer is eviscerating Alex Jones on the stand
by Anonymous | reply 342 | August 13, 2022 11:54 PM |
I don't know if I dare hope that perjury is finally that thing that gets this abomination thrown in the jug
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 3, 2022 6:10 PM |
Jones' lawyers fucked up and sent a copy of all of the texts from his phone to the opposing lawyers.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 3, 2022 6:20 PM |
For those of us who work for a living and don't have hours to peruse YouTube and Tiktok all day, care to summarize?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 3, 2022 6:22 PM |
Ben Collins:
Seen a lot of Law & Order, haven't seen a twist as good as "Alex Jones' lawyers accidentally sent Sandy Hook parents' lawyers the entire contents of his phone and his long-hidden financials, but they waited 12 days to let him lie" in my life. Just an absolutely wild day.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 3, 2022 6:27 PM |
The lawyer used clips from InfoWars to devastating effect, showing Jones was accusing the judge of being associated with child trafficikng and pedophilia, that the jury was made of up of people who "didn't live on this planet" and a bunch of times he lied. The lawyer nailed him on calling every mass shooting or tragedy a "red flag" operation, and listed more than half-a-dozen of the major shootings, the Boston bombings, etc. where Jones did the same thing he did about Sandy Hook.
Jones was reduced to a blithering mess, coughing uncontrollably, squirming, making bizarre facial expressions, and generally being exposed as the slime that he is.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 3, 2022 6:35 PM |
Is his lawyer inept, or spread thin? After being informed by opposing counsel they’d received the text, why did the lawyer do nothing?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 3, 2022 6:36 PM |
Texts and emails revealed that Jones' InfoWars made up to $800,000 a day grifting the rubes.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 3, 2022 6:36 PM |
Ladies and gentlemen: May I present to you Exhibit A in "The Dangers of Steroid and HGH abuse: Alex Jones."
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 3, 2022 6:37 PM |
Depp's attorneys accidentally sent Heard's team all the texts, too, which is why we know about all his crazy violent racist shit, but they didn't keep Depp in the dark about it for days and let him lie about the texts before telling him what had happened. Jones' attorneys must either be astonishingly incompetent or terrified of Jones.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 3, 2022 6:45 PM |
I hope the person who “mistakenly” sent those files is given a great big raise. Or has another job lined up.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 3, 2022 6:46 PM |
I think his attorney probably has a shred of a moral conscience and wants this piece of shit in jail where he belongs and make him pay.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 3, 2022 6:52 PM |
When I worked in a law office an insider anonymously faxed us a copy of an incriminating correspondence. The other side said it was clearly work product and my boss said, “Well, I don’t know what it is. Are you saying this is indeed your client’s document? By objecting it’s privileged you’re acknowledging it’s his?”
The case settled so we never had to argue for admission at trial. But I was always proud of the fact I was the file clerk who rediscovered that old fax and said, “What about this?” Being a drama queen paid off :)

Gross incompetence notwithstanding, how do you "accidently" send all text messages to the opposing lawyer? Let's face it - if you had any conscience *at all*, you wouldn't work for Jones in the first place.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 3, 2022 6:59 PM |

Can "gross incompetence" on the part of your lawyers be used as a basis for a mistrial request in a civil suit?

When asked by a juror what compensation Jones considered appropriate, Jones tried to insist that anything over $2 million would close their doors.
The Sandy Hook lawyer closed his questioning by pointing out that Jones' lawyers said that compensation of $1 dollar was appropriate.
I wonder which will be closest to the actual award. I'm guessing it will be over $200 million.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 3, 2022 7:02 PM |
Here's the part of the questioning about the judge.

I think the only fair compensation is for the judge to go all Shakespeare on Jones & demand a literal pound of flesh - to be extracted immediately and broadcast on the internet. I don't think any amount of money can realistically compensate what he's done to those people (gross I know, but if anyone deserves it, it's Jones)

Here's more of the part where Jones makes claims about the jury and his crazy claims about shootings/bombings. In the middle he's mocked for faking his coughing.

I don't know but I think taking every penny this man has along with the entirety of his material goods and sentencing him to prison for the rest of his life along with monitoring all his communications would be fair.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 3, 2022 8:54 PM |
He included memes and taunts which were inserted into legal documents sent to Sandy Hook parents' attorneys, so it doesn't surprise me that he also included CP, thinking he was "owning" them. Now he's going to get prosecuted for possession of CP, the dumbass.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 3, 2022 8:57 PM |
Hold on, this CP was found on his servers back in 2019? Someone prosecute him, for crying out loud. If it were some Joe Blow nobody with CP on their servers, they'd be doing time by now.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 3, 2022 8:59 PM |
The Sandy Hook parents were all prosperous, successful, wealthy people, all the things Jones and his band of basement dwelling incel listeners were not and all the things these bitter wretches despised. What better way to "own the libs" than to unmercifully attack them and attempt to belittle them at their greatest hour of grief by saying the whole sordid ordeal was a fraud.
Can you get any lower than this dirtball scumbag and his band of merry assholes?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 3, 2022 9:09 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 3, 2022 9:22 PM |
If Jones is anything it is prosperous, successful, and wealthy. Somebody should do a study of why his followers, along with those of Trump and other wealthy republicans, who have so little admire these people so deeply they would sacrifice everything including their own families for them. I try to rationalize it but I can't. And these people profit greatly from programs the democrats fight for and the repigs want to dismantle.

One cannot help to notice the similarities with the Trumpist playbook. One of Using their media megaphones positions to turn people against each other and to monetize and use for power. When is free speech a tool of abuse and when is it saying what you feel to be the truth. This is a question that is messy divisive and is once again time to address. Alas we have been here before The fairness doctrine was used in the past for similar reasons to prevent Alex Jones’s Trumps and Fox news’s from abusing their megaphone privileges.

R38, why wouldn’t that have happened in a hospital? There wouldn’t be a law against it anyway.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 3, 2022 10:21 PM |
As hilarious as his lawyer's sending the texts to opposing counsel is, that alone could be grounds for appeal when he loses. I'm sure he would appeal anyway.

I am confused about the CP. Did he send it to the Sandy Hook parents to try and set them up for having CP? How fucking stupid can one person be? That makes no sense at all.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | August 4, 2022 10:39 AM |
R80, the Sandy Hook lawyers issued a pre-trial discovery requests for all of Jones' text messages having to do with Sandy Hook. Jones said under oath that he searched his phone for Sandy Hook and didn't find any. Turns out he lied (shocking), he actually gave his entire cell phone over to his legal team, expecting them to do the search and to turn over any relevant texts. Instead of sending over just the texts they found, the lawyers sent over the entire contents of Jone's phone to the plaintiff's lawyers.
When the plaintiff's lawyers realized what they received, they contacted the defense lawyers to tell them they'd screwed up, giving the defense the chance to request the records back or at the very least claim that everything in there was attorney-client privileged so the plaintiff wouldn't be able to use it. The doofus defense lawyers didn't respond in the standard time allotted to reply, so the defense now has unrestricted use of all of that data.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | August 4, 2022 10:56 AM |

He reminds me of Breitbart, who dropped dead not long after one of his spittle-flecked red-faced rampages, but Breitbart looked healthier than Jones does.
One of the points made in the old "Alex Jones is Bill Hicks with a new identity" conspiracy theory was that Jones "couldn't possibly be as young as he says he is." He's looked old for a while. Physicians often include "looks his/her stated age" or "older than" etc. in their medical notes for patients, so I have to assume that looking older than your age is an indicator of health concerns.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | August 4, 2022 11:42 AM |
R87- Reddit posted pictures of his different expressions during his cross examination and in all seriousness he looked as if he was going to go into cardiac arrest. He was in shock of course, but he knows he is in trouble now because of the CP and his involvement in the attempt to overthrow our democracy. I do not have the slightest drop of sympathy for a narcissist psychopath who terrorized parents who went through the ungodly pain of losing their child. That takes a sick, cold-blooded SOB to be so sadistic. He deserves to feel the same amount of pain that he has deliberately inflicted on others. When the mother of one victim was testifying he kept nodding his head no. I wanted to be able to reach through the screen and bludgeon him.

That sad truth is that even if (god willing) Alex Jones died tomorrow, at least one person (and maybe more) would take his place. Alex is creep, but he clearly fills a need for the dim, broken and paranoid - and there seem to be more of them than we think. Like Trump, he's a symptom of the disease, not the disease itself.
Someone posted on another thread that conspiracy theories spring up when white people/kids get killed because people can't get their heads around that, whereas they expect black & brown people to be killed, so no conspiracy there! I don't know exactly what it is, but this conspiracy theory shit keeps getting worse rather than better

The mistrial request came after it was disclosed at trial that Jones's lawyer accidentally sent two years of the U.S. conspiracy theorist's text messages to the plaintiffs.

Someone asked how this day fuck could make $800K a day - money laundering.
This is a LOT bigger than just Sandy Hook (peace to the children and their grieving families).
This is filthy money being laundered through these conspiracy bullshit “artists”, Russian propaganda being fed directly to mentally unstable white men (because that’s the majority of the fools who consume this fuckery) and encouragement to “take matters into your own hands”.
Sure, there are plenty of loons out there who are buying his stupid “supplements” and whatever else he’s peddling but it’s not $800k a day worth.
He’s laundering money for dirty Russian mobsters, spewing RT propaganda, plotting with pricks like Stone to overthrow the government and lord knows what else. I bet most of that is in the comms on his phone his lawyer turned over and is now the Golden Ticket that J6 and the DOJ want.
He is about to be dragged for the filth he his through numerous criminal trials and it will be delicious. IF the Russian mob doesn’t pink slip him first.

[quote]R123 All they had to do was to tell the Sandy Hook lawyers that all the other data they got was privileged and they wouldn't have been able to use it in court.
It’s not that easy. One side could argue it’s inadmissible but that doesn’t mean it is. The court decides if something’s privileged or not.

Forget the civil trial (though I hope they get a billion). This dude needs a real trial with convictions and jail time. I believe he was working as an operative for the NRA. His relentless and vicious campaign was not just being a right-wing pundit. And he really put these families through hell, possibly endangering their lives.
And I think the mistrial plea was always going to happen if the trial wasn't going his way (which it isn't). I would love to see his face when he heard the Judge said no, but he wasn't in the room at the time.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | August 4, 2022 8:53 PM |
R130- I call bullshit on that. The FBI is corrupt, but also the way I understood it was AJ was trying to somehow send CP to SH victims and set them up to be caught with CP. Don't ask me how, idk, but that sounds just like something that repulsive POS would do. He encouraged his violent hillbilly redneck followers to harass and threaten those poor parents - for years. I think a fitting punishment would be him having boiling sugar water thrown in his face, then abject poverty.

by Anonymous | reply 136 | August 4, 2022 9:29 PM |
R136, Texas civil trials have two phases, first they award actual damages and then compensatory damages. The first amount will be what the real amount the jury feels the plaintiffs have actually lost/will lose. The second phase (which requires still another set of hearings) is where the jury will award the "Teach him a lesson" punishment amount, which will almost certainly be substantially higher.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | August 4, 2022 9:38 PM |
The Austin jury must still decide how much the Infowars host must pay in punitive damages to Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis, whose son Jesse Lewis was among the 20 children and six educators who were killed in the 2012 attack in Newtown, Connecticut.

Being a right-wing pundit is a lucrative market. Just like being an influencer on social media, you shill for whatever product you are paid to shill.
Jones got the crazies by acting like a crazy piece of shit. All right-wing followers want is a "legitimate" justification for being racist pieces of shit. For them, Q-Anon conspiracies and Alex Jones are enough justification to hate and take action.
The GOP and the NRA benefitted hugely from Alex Jones calling shooting sprees false flag operations, because the right wing followers rather wanted to believe the lies than face the uncomfortable fact that their idols are ok with killing kids and innocent people as long the weapon industry is strong and making profits.
The (deliberate) spreading of misinformation has to be punished harder and more swiftly. Otherwise, someone else will take over for Alex Jones and nurture the right wing followers' desire for hating liberals instead of finding out that they are not the real enemy.

R187, according to my coworker who is a former state revenue officer, if someone has omitted 25% of their income to avoid paying taxes, the IRS can go back 10 years and examine your taxes.
If they find another 25% omission, that’s another 10 years of digging (IIRC). Not only that BUT the STATE is also going to want their share of that back taxes (although I’m not sure if Texas has income tax).
Any financial institutions he does business with in the US (possibly Europe) will comply with any court ordered asset seizure to pay back taxes or bankruptcy.
Of course, he could have plenty of bitcoin stashed away in the Cayman Islands or wherever scumbags hide their ill gotten gains.
If he’s using a bank in the US to process his “supplement” payments, that income will be forfeit to cover the bankruptcy, IIRC. It will be interesting to see just how much his “supplement” business drops off after the filing. His laundromat will have been shut down.

The Sandy Hook plaintiffs in this sure picked excellent attorneys - all very sharp, passionate, and devastatingly effective in summation. If you haven't watched both summations from today, you should when you get a chance.
Contrast this to Jone's sleazeball lawyer, who made a terrible summation that was interrupted numerous times by sustained objections from the plaintiff.

J6 AND DOJ will get the texts. The Sandy Hook lawyer said that he had been asked by both if he would turn them over in court yesterday.
He said he would if the judge didn’t object. The judge said she had no objections.
So this fat motherfucking piece of shit AND the slimy pinheaded cyclops Stone are so FUCKED!

[quote]R234 Someone upthread mentioned Jones is on his 11th attorney. What kind of representation can he find going forward for the rest of the lawsuits he faces?
I think it’s the lawyer in r119 who theorized the previous lawyers all dropped him because as they one by one became aware of all those texts and emails, they figured they could not defend him without providing them to opposing counsel. Maybe Mr. Jones wouldn’t approve handing over the data, and that’s where they parted ways.
Lawyers can fire a client for lying to them or not taking their advice.

[quote] The award may be reduced--TX has caps on punitive damages.
So why not let the jury know the cap before hand and eliminate the foolishness of reducing it with further litigation? The legal system is so silly.
by Anonymous | reply 266 | August 6, 2022 1:38 AM |
This is the kind of stupid result "tort reform" gets us. The claim (and I don't agree with this) is that if juries know too much about the law beyond what they are required to determine, they will manipulate the result to get what they want. So if they know, for example, punitive damages are capped at a multiplier of compensatory damages, they will just up the compensatory damages to get the higher punitive amount.
The reality is we just don't want to let juries really punish the powerful.
by Anonymous | reply 267 | August 6, 2022 1:53 AM |
R266, if there is a cap, the verdict becomes symbolic - but that symbolism is still meaningful. This is the figure that will be associated with this case moving forward and sets a benchmark of precedence for other cases against Jones in other states.

[quote]R258 Why was Jones even allowed not to turn over texts?
Jones claimed there were no texts or emails relevant to Sandy Hook. So his stance was there was nothing relevant in his communication to supply. You can’t just demand access to all of someone’s emails and texts. They supply what they say they have.
But then it becomes a different story when communication surfaces that someone like Mr. Jones claims never existed.

Jones' lawyer didn't just send the data, they - after made aware of the fact - put their thumbs up their asses and let the time lapse where they could legally insist that none of the new evidence could be used in court. Either this is the most incompetent law firm (including having a toxic environment where interns and staff are too afraid to admit to their superiors that they've fucked up) or these guys hate their client so much, they set him up. I think someone from that law firm was negatively affected by one of Alex Jones' scams and sabotaged Alex's defense.

I’m thinking Jones’ lawyer saw what was in those texts and decided so send it all to the Sandy Hook lawyers, not by accident, but purposely, to expose Jones as the criminal he is beyond just this case.

From r290-
Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones immediately took to the airwaves after the verdict in his defamation trial on Friday - Jones claimed the trial against him was 'coordinated and run' by billionaire philanthropist George Soros and 'operatives.' He did not identify the other 'operatives' by name.
The host also accused Judge Maya Guerra Gamble of being a 'blue-haired SJW' and insinuated that she was corrupt by saying that she 'altered the record of the trial.'
Jones alleged that Gamble turned off the livestream at certain points when his lawyer's were speaking in attempt to discredit him.
He went on to say that the judge was 'coordinating with the corporate media' who were present in the courtroom covering the trial.
The host also took aim at Neil Heslin and Scarlett Lewis' main lawyer, Mark Bankston, calling him an 'ambulance chaser.

There's also a practical reason for this. He has to reach out to his followers to keep the grift going. He can't just let the media control the narrative when it comes to his followers. He has to tell them his version most of them, if not all, believe, and they keep sending him money.

Which seems to be what happened in this case.
At that point, it is the responsibility of opposing counsel to advise the defendant's counsel that they have received documents that they believe were mistakenly produced.
Which is definitely what happened in this case.
Which places the onus on defense counsel to determine if the documents were indeed produced in error, in which event they can claw them back.
Which is definitely NOT what happened in this case.
Blame it on the paralegal if you want, but ultimately it is the fault of the attorney whose name appears as counsel.

I'm trying to fathom the amounts of money he's made. Is the $200K/day an average figure and $800K for peak crazy Qanon days? The clips I've seen of his show have really low production values so his overhead is minimal. I hope the IRS takes a look at his returns to see how they square with his income claims in texts and emails.

r338, for the right wing, laws and rules only apply to their opposition. When the right-wing breaks laws and rules, it's either for the greater good or those darn Liberals did it first, or forced them to take righteous, but unlawful, action.
Unfortunately, any kind of progress comes with a great amount of pushback from the conservatives.
For eons, institutions like the Christian Church had most people under its thumb. Now that the mainstream mainly rejects religion, conservatives become more and more vicious and aggressive, because they are losing ground.
