Rob Zombie Presents The Munsters

Eh...

A lot of my interest evaporated on the discovery that Zombie's wife is playing Lily.

Also, this is an origin story, so no Marilyn or Eddie.

Who is this wife of his who seems to be in every project he does?

by Anonymousreply 1July 13, 2022 5:44 PM

My god, that looks like dog shit! The cinematography is horrendous, it looks like an infomercial or public broadcasting attempt at a revival. The acting is really bad. I think this will sweep the Razzies. It has no charm.

by Anonymousreply 2July 13, 2022 5:53 PM

It looks so amateurish.

by Anonymousreply 3July 13, 2022 6:38 PM

This looks awful. So cheap looking. The actors are all off. Every line reading and every movement is wrong. They have no talent for this kind of farce. It would be far more entertaining to just watch a single episode of the old series than one minute of this.

by Anonymousreply 4July 13, 2022 6:42 PM

As with all of Rob Zombie's movies, it just screams "vanity project."

I'm not saying he's incompetent, but this is clearly not his wheelhouse.

by Anonymousreply 5July 13, 2022 6:43 PM

Although I guess Tim Burton is happy, since this makes Dark Shadows look better.

by Anonymousreply 6July 13, 2022 6:44 PM

At least Herman is wearing the Karloff makeup.

by Anonymousreply 7July 13, 2022 6:51 PM

Make up makes no difference when the performance is that bad.

by Anonymousreply 8July 13, 2022 6:52 PM

Cosplay gone too far.

by Anonymousreply 9July 13, 2022 6:52 PM

Herman and Lily are off to a distracting level. Grampa looks alright though. And yeah, it looks cheap.

by Anonymousreply 10July 13, 2022 6:54 PM

I was never a Rob Zombie fan but at least The Devils Rejects and Lords of Salem have a cinematic quality to them. LOS is even gorgeous for long stretches.

But this is looks like pure vomit. WTF?

by Anonymousreply 11July 13, 2022 6:56 PM

A behind the scenes making of documentary of this self-congratulatory trainwreck would be more interesting than the film itself. At least you could bask in the glory of all the wrongheaded "artistic choices".

by Anonymousreply 12July 13, 2022 6:56 PM

Who keeps letting this no talent hack make “movies”?

by Anonymousreply 13July 13, 2022 7:01 PM

One (of many) problems is that this version is TWICE removed from the source. The original 1960's Munsters was a satire on the 1930's Universal Classic Monsters from (then) 30 years ago. This tries to recreate that, but it's been so long from the original source that now it seems like a joke on modern Halloween store costume rejects. It simply doesn't work.

by Anonymousreply 14July 13, 2022 7:03 PM

Besides, who is the audience for this? People who remember the Munsters TV show are pretty old now.

by Anonymousreply 15July 13, 2022 7:10 PM

The actors all look too self-conscious. They are aware that they're doing schtick. The trick is to make it seem natural. That's what makes it funny, because the characters don't know that they're odd. If they're in on the joke it doesn't work.

by Anonymousreply 16July 13, 2022 7:12 PM

This makes his Halloween II look like Shawshank Redemption.

by Anonymousreply 17July 13, 2022 7:17 PM

Listening to this original theme song to The Munster's is far better than this forgettable remake

The Munsters are still shown and they are still funny R15 but they've also had several revivals. Most have been bad though. Lots of younger people know who the Munsters are.

by Anonymousreply 19July 13, 2022 7:19 PM

r13 He became popular with the horror/slasher/thriller genre because like his music it takes a brutally 'conservative' edge. He's 'best' at those types of film because it requires little way of direction as they tend to lack plot and it's investment is focused on the moral kills. Quite honestly, I've been waiting for him to do a version of "Hell House" but his public facade would prevent him from doing so.

This I presume means he's having financial woes or worries about the current generation and attempting to go mainstream without going too far off brand. . . or perhaps it's just signs of dementia.

either way as a salty, bitter, whore.. I can't help but hope this trainwreck comes to fruitition and completely decimates his legacy.

I was wondering where Eddie and Marilyn were. Since it's a prequel that explains it. Hopefully they'll make an appearance towards the end.

by Anonymousreply 21July 13, 2022 9:18 PM

It would be nice to have Marilyn since the joke is that she's the "normal" one, and a beauty as well. Contrast adds interest.

by Anonymousreply 22July 13, 2022 9:22 PM

I mean, if it was at least in black and white, it would look fractionally better.

by Anonymousreply 23July 14, 2022 12:58 AM

Was it made with an iPhone5?

by Anonymousreply 24July 14, 2022 1:03 AM

This could easily be the trailer for a porn parody.

by Anonymousreply 25July 14, 2022 3:31 AM

This production obviously had no gays involved. Hideous.

by Anonymousreply 26July 14, 2022 4:15 AM

That looks like utter garbage! Will Rob Zombie ever accept that his wife can't act? Did he put an unnecessary rape scene in that shit like he does in all of his movies? I thought that Universal Pictures logo at the beginning was a joke since this whole thing looks like it was made on an iPhone, but turns out it's real. This will probably go straight to streaming.

by Anonymousreply 27July 14, 2022 10:45 AM

It was made by Universal 1440 Entertainment which is Universal's direct-to-video label, so that's why it looks so cheap. Bloody-Disgusting reported that the budget was going to be 30-40 million. I'm sorry, but there's no fucking way in the world. That trailer made it look like it was 5 to 10 million at most.

Jeff Daniel Phillips voice is wrong for the part. It isn't nearly deep or booming enough to be Herman. And speaking of voices, Sheri was doing some weird thing with hers the entire time that made it seem like she was trying to do an Yvonne De Carlo impression rather than making the character her own. Whatever kind of camera they used made it look very cheap. It just didn't turn out so good.

People have said "Maybe Eddie and Marilyn will be in the sequel." Let's be honest, there isn't going to be one. After that trailer, I think Universal will just quickly get the movie out then act like it never happened like they did with Mockingbird Lane.

by Anonymousreply 29July 14, 2022 12:58 PM

Just quit trying to remake the Munsters

The problem in Hollywood is that casting is fucked now, it’s either spouses or friends or minorities for the sake of being a minority. The Addams Family movie would have been cast with Emma Stone and Timothee Chalamet now.

by Anonymousreply 31July 14, 2022 1:14 PM

Why would Universal agree to have Zombie cast his wife ? It's not like he's this great director that they have to appease.

by Anonymousreply 32July 14, 2022 1:17 PM

I love that picture at R28.

by Anonymousreply 33July 14, 2022 2:00 PM

The makeup on the actors in the Rob Zombie looks to scary, unapproachable. They don’t look happy or family.

by Anonymousreply 34July 14, 2022 2:02 PM

No Eddie, no Marilyn, no Spot, no Kitty or Raven. Just the 3 and Herman and Lily's love story? I can see why he chose that angle because it is different from the other Munsters adaptations, but it is going to feel weird seeing a Munsters movie without Eddie and Marilyn especially.

by Anonymousreply 35July 14, 2022 3:33 PM

Somebody made the trailer black and white and it really does look a whole lot better.

by Anonymousreply 36July 14, 2022 5:57 PM

God, the acting is still horrible. His wife should be banned from ever getting in front of a camera.

by Anonymousreply 37July 14, 2022 6:10 PM

They look to mean.

by Anonymousreply 38July 14, 2022 6:13 PM

It's apparently going to Netflix at some point in the fall.

Universal apparently didn't want this turd on its own platform.

by Anonymousreply 39July 19, 2022 1:29 AM

The incredible talent of Fred Gwynne and timely comic sensibility of the original "The Munsters" make any effort to recreate the magic of it pure folly to attempt to recreate!

I mean, Yvonne DeCarlo, for Christ's sake!

by Anonymousreply 40July 19, 2022 1:41 AM

If his highly annoying wife is in it then hard pass.

by Anonymousreply 41July 19, 2022 2:22 AM

Wow. It’s unbelievably amateurish. .

by Anonymousreply 42July 19, 2022 4:20 AM

Cheap! Cheap! Cheap!

by Anonymousreply 43July 19, 2022 5:53 AM

The movie is so bad even Eddie and Marilyn knew to stay away.

by Anonymousreply 44July 19, 2022 2:15 PM

Yvonne de Carlo's ghost is going to sue.

by Anonymousreply 45July 19, 2022 8:33 PM

[quote]Did he put an unnecessary rape scene in that shit like he does in all of his movies?

The whole film is a rape.

by Anonymousreply 46July 19, 2022 9:27 PM

[quote]They look to mean.

Oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 47July 19, 2022 11:21 PM

It’s a shame because a campy Munsters movie made in a style similar to the Addams Family movies from the early 90’s could be a nice hit. Get a good cast, good director, put some money into it, put a smart comedy writer behind it and make it something everyone could watch on Halloween on ABC Family.

No one was asking for his low rent, proto pornographic, humorless take on The Munsters.

This is career ending bad. Oh well. I guess it’s time for him to reacquaint himself with Kickstarter.

by Anonymousreply 48July 19, 2022 11:33 PM

Or you can own it for yourself on 9/27.

I'm not having my thunder stolen by some kid actor and a blonde cunt!

by Anonymousreply 50July 20, 2022 10:10 PM

Chaz Bono had a cameo in 3 From Hell, and now Lily and Herman Munster are covering a song by his parents. Rob Zombie must be a true Cher fan.

R49, are you sure it’s not $9.27?

If even one of us buys it, they can recoup the budget for this turd

by Anonymousreply 52August 19, 2022 1:33 AM

I don't know which looks worse. This or Tim Burton's Wednesday series? Both look like garbage.

by Anonymousreply 53August 19, 2022 1:42 AM

I have to admit, while she may only be 29, Catherine Zeta Jones is an inspired Morticia Addams, so Wednesday has at least that going for it.

by Anonymousreply 54August 19, 2022 6:45 PM

Looks like it’s as awful as everyone said it would be.

by Anonymousreply 55September 27, 2022 12:42 PM

I enjoyed it. I think it was visually stunning. The colors and castles were so beautiful. And I think the leads did very well in all their parts. I felt it was fun, entertaining, and I had a good time watching it. I feel it is actually pretty similar to the style of the original, just in color and with different music.
