California Gov. Gavin Newsom may run for President

Does he have a chance? Will Biden step down for someone younger with more energy and imagination?

He has wayyyyy too much baggage I'm afraid.

by Anonymousreply 1July 8, 2022 12:37 PM

[quote]He has wayyyyy too much baggage I'm afraid.

There was a lot of crap over the years around the time he was mayor of SF. His entire political career was in jeopardy. His marriage to Kimberly Guilfoyle was a tabloid mess. It's actually a wonder he won governor, even in California. In 2003 when he was elected mayor of SF, you needed to be clear of any controversy - obviously, not so today.

The rethugs ALL have so much baggage, as well, that I don't know that it would disqualify him as it might once have.

by Anonymousreply 2July 8, 2022 12:53 PM

America is ready for a younger energetic dynamic leadership.

by Anonymousreply 3July 8, 2022 1:17 PM

He’s a much better candidate than Mayor Pete or Kamala, yes.

You really think Kamala will just let him run? You think black women will appreciate him making her a one-term VP?

by Anonymousreply 7July 8, 2022 1:42 PM

Absolutely he could be our president. Americans love a man with confidence that is not afraid to make moves and fight for them. In retrospect, his recall was the best thing to ever happen to his political career. It lit a fire up his you know what and now he's all out.

by Anonymousreply 8July 8, 2022 1:43 PM

r6 What's wrong with California for everyone? It's probably the only state most foreigners would want to live in, LMAO.

by Anonymousreply 9July 8, 2022 1:43 PM

R1, Gavin Newsom has more baggage than an American Tourister warehouse.

by Anonymousreply 10July 8, 2022 1:45 PM

[Quote]You really think Kamala will just let him run? You think black women will appreciate him making her a one-term VP?

No one really gives a fuck about her. She's always concerned about her image. Right now she's concerned to become the face of the administration's response to abortion....and doesn'twant to be pigeonholed bc of her gender. In reality she's almost invisible and no one really cares about her. She's will never be president and she'll disappear into oblivion after 2024. Newsom will never choose this bland cunt as his VP. I had high hopes, but she's just an entitled cunt who is mostly more concerned about her image than the country or democracy.

by Anonymousreply 11July 8, 2022 1:59 PM

I support him already.....If my choices are Kamala, Biden, or Pete---I am on Team Gavin.

by Anonymousreply 12July 9, 2022 3:17 AM

Another cis-het white male ?

HARD PASS.

by Anonymousreply 13July 9, 2022 6:12 AM

It’s amazing the echo chamber some of you live in if you believe he has a chance to win the electoral college. You’re overestimating his popularity within CA. He managed to fend off the recall because it’s still deep blue CA and the alternative was a joke. Like it or not, he is a huge representation of the woke movement that is experiencing a growing backlash. He’s like a younger John Kerry in terms of personality and charisma. His hood looks won’t get him into the White House. He would have had a better chance, but not a winning one, if he were governor of a state that isn’t CA. Most of America has seen CA’s rising crime and homeless issues on the news for the past year- he’s the face of that; the rest of America doesn’t want that.

by Anonymousreply 14July 9, 2022 6:21 AM

Why should we choose someone just because black women want that person? Kamala isn’t going to win the presidency, and I hope she gets challenged in the primaries. Let’s not forget it was black women who voted against same sex marriage in California. It was given a fair chance to win, until their preachers told them to vote against it, so they turned out in droves and voted against it. There’s a lot out there that looks at the role of the black churches, and how it brought down the same sex marriage proposition in California.

R90 That sounds nice but CA is ridiculously overpriced unless you are raking in at least 150k in LA, SF, SD, OC, and Sac these days. No one cares about any of the valleys where you can get buy on about 100k. The undeveloped coastal areas are nice indeed, but no one lives there. Otherwise, you're living with parents or extended family.

It's in perpetual drought, hence the fires of the last 5 years. Infrastructure is decaying, taxes increasing, public schools in shambles, crime is getting out of hand, minimum wage can't keep up with rising costs of living. Then there's the crime.

I get DLers want to promote where they live, say FU to where they left, but let's be real, CA is no cheap paradise without any troubles.

CA government is largely to blame for that. Newsome can't outrun/spin that.

An amendment that would have held drug dealers accountable for fentanyl deaths was rejected by the Senate on Wednesday.

Assembly Bill 2195, authored by Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer (D-Los Angeles), would amend the penal code to creative an alternative plea for those charged with drug offenses to a charge of public nuisance.

According to the bill, the overall aim is to protect immigrants and residents from facing lifelong consequences for their drug charges and to avoid separating families as a result. Court resources and costs would also be lowered due to early resolution of cases.

“Newsom right now is gearing up for a more national presence,” added Dana. “If the bill reaches him, he will definitely think twice about signing the bill, because the repercussions from signing it would be big, especially if he needs to defend his crime record. Signing a bill that severely lowers drug charges like this wouldn’t exactly be seen as favorable.”

brandonjoseph/FNY (Former New Yorker)/[R275]/[R277]/[R278]/[R279]/[R2] - 80/[R281] seems to lack reading skills. The linked thread referred to is BELOW my post at [R276]. I guess it is difficult keeping track of which way is up after making literally hundreds upon hundreds of anti NYC posts, on so many threads, using so many different names and devices. Hate must be debilitating.

He forgets that he's posted the exact same post in multiple threads, and he talks to himself a lot, as seen in the 5 back to back posts above. He also does it in this linked thread below. He's responsible for over 200 posts in that thread.

Same old insults. He's forgotten he has used "needs to get laid" dozens and dozens of times, directed at anyone who likes NYC. So confused. Sad, really.

by Anonymousreply 181August 26, 2022 9:33 PM

R161 may have a point but what is it?

brandonjoseph/FNY/[R399] gets stuck on odd words. With you, it's "overreactive". With me, it was "fabulist". Pretty soon, he will claim that you and I are the same person, and begin calling us by female names for no apparent reason. You might be right about the drinking, or maybe he's sundowning. Definitely some form of mental illness.

He calls you "Gran" (another favorite ageist insult), even though, by his own account, he has to be in his late 50s/early 60s, at least. Most of his references are from 60s/70s tv shows and commercials. He claims to have hung out at Boy Bar, Tunnel, Pyramid, etc, and I believe him. I probably threw him out of Boy Bar.

For more of FNY's nonsense, reference my post at [R334]. Or the thread linked below, the 1st of 3 (that I know of) that he infested with over 200 posts. At nearly 100 posts here, this will likely be his 4th thread in which he has been responsible for well over 30% of the posts. Between 2 different devices, he has posted well over 20 times in less than 24 hours.

by Anonymousreply 197August 27, 2022 8:27 PM

Will charging stations become as ubiquitous as gas stations?

It takes 10 hours to recharge a depleted battery but even just for a boost it might take an hour.

Will there be long lines and long wait time?

by Anonymousreply 198August 28, 2022 12:30 AM

^Jesus christ, get a fucking life. It does not take 10 hours to charge an electric car anymore. Maybe if you use your power socket at home, but most charging stations charge a car in 30min or less. You can charge your car while getting coffee at Starbucks, at work or while you sleep. Most people don't drive 300 miles a day so it's really not a big deal.

[quote]What about the loss of jobs from all the companies leaving the state?

This is such a tided talking point. This is just the cycle of business. Businesses LOVE California when they are startups because of huge grants, tax intensives, vast labor pool of highly educated professionals. Once they get rich, then it's all about greed and saving money. Enter Texas where labor laws are minimal, taxes are low and employees are cheap. Think of it like Boomer business model, me, me, me, take, take take.

Most companies have no loyalty to where they got their start. Elon Musk is the perfect example of this. He would never have gotten his start without the vast amount of help, talented workforce he got for California supporting his Eco-firendly business. In fact, Texas is so ant-progressive, climate change denier you still can't buy a Tesla in a Texas showroom. You have to buy it out of state and truck it in. He legally cant sell Teslas there.

by Anonymousreply 267September 14, 2022 3:17 PM

54% of those between 18-34 years old are preparing to leave San Francisco poll shows.

[quote]so why are so many leaving paradise [R263]?

Because it's not paradise for Deplorable. Repugs are not going to be running the state any time soon. They are bitter, selfish, angry, greedy haters. Good Riddance.

by Anonymousreply 271September 14, 2022 7:18 PM

For fuck sake, you haters are non stop. More than 50% of the population of CA DO NOT LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO or LA! There are hundreds of small cities and towns are are quite nice places to live.

R271 any data on the demographics that don't require a colonoscope to read?

by Anonymousreply 275September 14, 2022 8:42 PM

Can't drink ocean water.

by Anonymousreply 276September 15, 2022 6:31 PM

You never heard of desalinization?

by Anonymousreply 277September 16, 2022 7:39 AM

R271 and that is why California is going to hell in a handbasket. The Southern red states are rising again. California peaked in the 20th century.

by Anonymousreply 278September 16, 2022 7:42 AM

I cant hear you R278, it just finally stopped raining here in CA. Oh well, there goes that theory.

by Anonymousreply 279September 16, 2022 7:44 AM

😂🤣😂🤣🤡

by Anonymousreply 280September 16, 2022 7:45 AM

Poor R279/R280, they are oblivious to the fact that the future is conservative.

After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 left the U.S. as the world's sole superpower, America got complacent in the 21st century, allowing it to become even more liberal... to disastrous consequences. Wokeness is a cancer!

But we will return to conservative values in order to compete with China. Like it was during the Cold War with the Soviet Union.

Liberalism these days is about eschewing strong work ethic (because it's a 'white people thing') and ignoring skill/talent in favor of racial/gender/what-have-you quotas, which just breeds mediocrity.

by Anonymousreply 281September 16, 2022 7:58 AM

Poor R281, conservatism is DEAD. The Republican party is now just a party seeking power at all costs. They don't even have a platform anymore. Just to win at all costs, lie, cheat, steal ends justify the means. I have never see more conservative come out publicly and leave the party than any other time in history.

by Anonymousreply 282September 16, 2022 8:02 AM

R232 is so lazy he/she posted the exact same link that R226 did -- six posts above his/hers.

by Anonymousreply 283September 18, 2022 4:24 AM

^ readers are so lazy to read thru a thread, so I reiterated a point. Welcome to DL and too bad you don't have a point, dumbass!

by Anonymousreply 284September 18, 2022 7:17 AM

re·it·er·ate [rēˈidəˌrāt] VERB say something again or a number of times, typically for emphasis or clarity: "she reiterated that the administration would remain steadfast in its support" · [more] synonyms: repeat · say again · restate · retell · recapitulate · go over (and over) · iterat

by Anonymousreply 285September 18, 2022 7:21 AM

Could you tell me again what reiterate means?

by Anonymousreply 286September 18, 2022 7:27 AM

to restate for lazy or stupid people R286

by Anonymousreply 287September 18, 2022 7:47 AM

Newsom and DeSantis are now in a media pissing contest.

Who do we believe has the bigger dick?

by Anonymousreply 288September 18, 2022 11:12 AM

R288, DeSantis needs to lose 30 lbs, that is not up for debate.

by Anonymousreply 289September 18, 2022 12:54 PM

Gavin's dick is probably over 8 inches, while DeSantis is probably thick and juicy.

by Anonymousreply 290September 18, 2022 2:06 PM

R282 if it's so dead why do they keep winning elections. Do you really think the Dem are gna keep the white house in 2024?

by Anonymousreply 291September 18, 2022 8:47 PM

Winning elections? Last time I checked the last Republican to hold office as President only lasted one term. They also lost control of the Congress at the same time. Well known life long conservatives like Joe Scarborough, George Conway and Steve Schmidt have left the party.

by Anonymousreply 293September 18, 2022 11:11 PM

[quote] conservatives like Joe Scarborough, George Conway and Steve Schmidt have left the party

But how many conservatives like Joe Scarborough, George Conway and Steve Schmidt can you give seven figure incomes to switch sides?

by Anonymousreply 294September 18, 2022 11:21 PM

To me, 281 and 282 each make valid points.

by Anonymousreply 295September 18, 2022 11:21 PM

I would respect and probably vote for him on any other Dem who took on Biden. Biden has been on a roll lately, but he is too fucking old. Anyone who isn’t far left (because they would challenge Biden regardless) and dares to stick up against the Dem Establishment and so called “norms” to run against Biden would have my vote.

by Anonymousreply 296September 18, 2022 11:24 PM

Poor R294, just can accept facts or reality when they are laid out in front of him. So of course just like Trump have to divert the reasons to some conspiracy that never happened.

So All those conservatives just switched sides for money? They were all making a lot of money, millions BEFORE Trump came around. If anything they probably lost money leaving the party.

Link to claim they switched sides for money or I call BULLSHIT.

by Anonymousreply 297September 19, 2022 4:16 AM

Gavin said he is not going to run. All you pearl clutching Repugs and relax. Besides, I like him as Gov of California and so do the people who put that stupid Repug re-call idea to bed a year ago. He was overwhelmingly voted for to stay in office. America doesn't deserve the success and prosperity he can bring them until it gets rid of the redneck deplorables.

by Anonymousreply 298September 19, 2022 4:22 AM

R287. It was joke, moron.
