Progressives Are Blaming Hillary and Ruth Bader Ginsburg For Supreme Court Decision

At what point do they look in the mirror?

by Anonymousreply 67June 27, 2022 11:59 AM

Well if the shoe fits...

by Anonymousreply 1June 25, 2022 1:15 AM

Well, they're not wrong. But there's a lot of blame to go around.

by Anonymousreply 2June 25, 2022 1:15 AM

OP, maybe it is you who should look in the mirror. Blaming RBG or Clinton may make you feel all sassy, but what effect does it have on abortion rights? A negative effect, because it weakens our allies.

Attacking the people who supported this, or didnโ€™t support our allies? That is a blow for womenโ€™s rights.

Basically? You should shut the fuck up.

Andrew Yang๐Ÿงขโฌ†๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ @AndrewYang

It feels like Democrats owe their people an apology for being bad at their jobs - they had a long time to codify Roe v. Wade, defend a balanced court, get RBG to step down, etc. Instead they got played and trounced. โ€œHelp undo our failures!โ€ is not a compelling rallying cry.

The people who are going to get hurt by this the worst will be poor women in red states, while the folks who played politics with this will glide along and email people for money.

Mitch McConnell and the Republicans are to blame for not confirming his pick of Merrick Garland using the logic that a president should not choose a justice in an election year, then turning around and allowing Trump to do it. I blame Bernbots and the progressives for getting Trump elected. If we had Hillary, we would of had a more balanced court.

by Anonymousreply 6June 25, 2022 1:46 AM

R3 is a retard with reading comprehension issues.

by Anonymousreply 8June 25, 2022 1:49 AM

Why Hillary? Because she lost a campaign? Blame Jill Stein and her voters.

by Anonymousreply 9June 25, 2022 1:53 AM

R5

Andrew Yang is a farce. I say this as someone who used to love and support him.

by Anonymousreply 10June 25, 2022 1:53 AM

Obama is to blame for not pursuing a recess appointment of Garland while suing McConnell for violation of the 'advise and consent' clause in the Constitution, not firing James Comey immediately as he leaked Hillary-side information and not Trump, and earlier not using his earlier supermajority to put a basic abortion law on the books - even one that just allowed for justifiable cases up to 15 weeks. Hillary was Secretary of State and then a Presidential candidate and could do nothing direct for abortion rights but advocate (and she did). RBG knew she fucked up when God kept giving her cancer.

by Anonymousreply 11June 25, 2022 1:53 AM

Harry Reid had a hand in this as much as anyone, striking the filibuster for the judiciary. As r2 said, there's plenty of blame to go around.

by Anonymousreply 12June 25, 2022 1:54 AM

Andrew Yang is right.

by Anonymousreply 13June 25, 2022 1:54 AM

R13

No, he isnโ€™t.

Anyone who blames Democrats over Republicans is part of the problem.

by Anonymousreply 14June 25, 2022 1:57 AM

"Both sides" doesn't mean equivalent. It simply means pointing out the obvious flaws of both sides. One is grossly incompetent and stratgically naive and the other is pure evil and a danger to the world.

by Anonymousreply 15June 25, 2022 2:00 AM

R15

Idiots like you are why Hillary lost and why weโ€™re in this mess. Iโ€™m tired of being one of millions who are actually turning out and swinging for the Democrats every election, only for idiots like you to fuck it all up for us because of nitpicking. No party or politician anywhere is perfect. No human is. Itโ€™s not possible. Harping on Democratsโ€™ โ€œmistakesโ€ or flaws will get us nowhere but evil Republican rule. Apparently thatโ€™s what yโ€™all really want.

[quote] One is grossly incompetent and stratgically naive and the other is pure evil and a danger to the world.

As an American, I lived in many other countries throughout my lifetime.

Returning back to the lower 48 was not something I wanted to do, but did for extended family reasons.

That said, R10 has encapsulated our American two party political system.

Or as one of my very aware Aussie pals said (and a poster here on DL intimated), the:

[bold] Dems [/bold] are off with the fairies....,and the

[bold]Repubs [/bold] have gone straight Christofacist.

Not much of a choice for the devolving USA, sadly.

by Anonymousreply 17June 25, 2022 2:13 AM

Oh fuck off, R16, I voted for Hillary and Joe with pleasure, unlike many. Just pointing out that the Democratic party is perpetually useless at messaging, overcomplicates their platforms, makes perfect the enemy of pragmatic with policy ideas, and promotes cultural socialism over economic socialism to alientate working-class voters. It doesn't mean I'm voting for these Neo-Nazis. If you're not allowed to even suggest a flaw, that's no better than what the other side is doing.

by Anonymousreply 20June 25, 2022 2:23 AM

by Anonymousreply 21June 25, 2022 2:25 AM

Dems have forgotten how to play tough. But ultimately the Republicans are too blame. Democrats mustnplay dirty but they seem incapable off doing that. Too much kumbaya I guess.

by Anonymousreply 22June 25, 2022 2:28 AM

How about blaming all the shitty Republicans? Oh, you donโ€™t want to talk about that because youโ€™re only here to demotivate Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 26June 25, 2022 2:30 AM

STFU - These idiots need to stop blaming Dems.

Warren needs to STFU.

It's the constant virtue signaling and power plays that undermined Dems and led to the situation we're in.

It's YOUR fault we're here now.

by Anonymousreply 27June 25, 2022 2:44 AM

The Republicans are to blame. 100%. But to say we can't criticize our own party is to be very Trumpian and I'm not a cult member. The Dems suck at messaging and fighting. Today, when we feel at our lowest, one of the first politicians I saw say something was Maxine Waters. Normally I love her. But today when she said, "Oh, you ain't seen nothing yet!" I thought, "You're right, Maxine. I have seen NOTHING. What the fuck have you been doing?" The Republicans generate dollars out of making their base fear what Dems will do; the Dems raise money promising to fight for us rather than spending time giving us examples of how they've fought. A few minutes later, I saw a clip of Biden (for whom I voted and will vote for again in 2024 if he's the candidate). What does he say? "Make no doubt about it: abortion is on the ballot in November!" Um. . .it's June. You're the President. Could you maybe, as the Leader of the Free World, maybe pull together your Congressional Dems and get them to do something NOW before we lose more seats in the midterms from white women yet again voting against their own self interest? I don't want to hear that you'll fix this IF Dems do well in November. I want you to fix this now. You said you'd codify Roe if we gave you the Presidency. . .and yet, here we are. What the fuck have you done? Where's that message? Or do I only get it if I send in 50 a week?

by Anonymousreply 28June 25, 2022 3:00 AM

You are criticizing the Democrats โ€™*messaging*, r38. Let me introduce you to my good friend, the paragraph.

The Progressive Pope will forgive them.

The Vatican's Academy for Life on Friday praised the US Supreme Court's decision on abortion, saying it challenged the world to reflect on life issues, but also called for social changes to help women keep their children.

The Vatican department said in a statement that the defense of human life could not be confined to individual rights because life is a matter of "broad social significance."

by Anonymousreply 31June 25, 2022 3:45 AM

The Democrats continue to bring neatly typed bullet point memos to a Republican knife fight that has been going on for YEARS - their lack of realpolitik is astounding and allowing the Rethugs to destroy this country.

Progressives blame "neoliberal" democrats. "Neoliberals" blame bernie-or-busters. The ones I really dislike are contrarian populist "leftists" like Krystal Ball. She literally said the democrats/left were just fear-mongering and that the supreme court would never overturn Roe v. Wade. Now, she blames Obama and the democrats. There's plenty more BS from her.

Look, Democrats can't perform magic, but they obviously don't push things as far as republicans do. Republicans are cunning and absolutely ruthless.

by Anonymousreply 36June 25, 2022 5:46 AM

Unfortunately Biden and Congress don't want to fix this. They now have an issue to run on in the midterms. That's all politicians give a shit about- winning elections.

by Anonymousreply 37June 25, 2022 6:08 AM

A cabal of conservative christofascists tosses precedent into the fire and explicitly takes aim at the legality of same-sex sexual relations and same-sex marriage...

Datalounge idiots: "Thanks, PROGRESSIVES!!!"

The vast majority of people who voted Bernie in the democratic primary later went on to vote for Clinton in the general election. There's data on this. This bullshit is unfounded division-trolling, probably from a conservative poster.

-signed a BernieBro who also volunteered thousands of hours with the local CLINTON campaign office in a swing state in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election

From what I see here, many so-called moderate centrists do plenty of blaming and pointing fingers themselves.

by Anonymousreply 39June 25, 2022 6:16 AM

You are all full of shit. Even if Ruth Bader Ginsburg stepped down when you wanted her to. NOTHING WOULD BE DIFFERENT TODAY. Trump stacked the court with 3 activist judges and the decision to overturn Row would have still passed.

"Obama is to blame for not pursuing a recess appointment of Garland..."

From what I've seen of Garland as AG and his unwillingness to prosecute Trump & Company, I'm willing to bet Garland would side with Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, etc. so he wouldn't have to upset the apple cart. Domestic peace must be maintained at all costs, according to Garland.

If Garland had been appointed to SCOTUS, it still would have been a 6 to 3 decision on abortion.

by Anonymousreply 45June 25, 2022 2:59 PM

Or a 5 to 4 and we still wouldโ€™ve lost. So blaming Democrats is bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 48June 25, 2022 4:17 PM

Honestly, I do blame democrats a little bit. Remember Mitt Romney? A perfectly fine and sane rep candidate who ran against Obama and was mercilessly mocked for everything he did. A binder full of women? That he wanted to hire?? The idiot! Obama was classy and smooth, but he could also humiliate and belittle with a silver tongue. So after seeing Romney become a national punching bag, I'm not surprised the reps fell in love with Trump and his take no prisoners, white trash, cruel and evil mockery and insults. That doesn't make it right. And God there are so many idiotic people out there who shouldn't vote. But if I were a historian, I would say Mitt Romney was one of the turning points.

53 responses and none of you thought "Maybe OP is trolling because I don't see any links to Hillary-blaming other than Susan Sarandon, a C-list actress few people pay much mind to outside of Datalounge."

And R15 -- many DLers live in Deepest Red Flyoverstan where they are constantly being harassed by the natives about Biden and so have trouble comprehending a world where everyone else is a liberal Democrat and it's okay to believe your party's standardbearer is sometimes not perfect, that believing that does not mean you don't support him, wouldn't vote for him...

by Anonymousreply 54June 25, 2022 5:41 PM

R49. Yes. It was a pity democrats mocked Romneyโ€™s gaffes. That was virtually an unknown practice until then. Campaigns, especially Republican ones, were conducted with the utmost gentility up to that point. Why, George W Bush seemed almost abashed to lay any criticisms against John Kerry. Same with his father and Michael Dukakis.

by Anonymousreply 55June 25, 2022 5:41 PM

R54, all you have to do is look at the threads OP started, to know that this isn't a thread about productive criticism of Biden and Democrats. If you're unwilling to do that, you could just take a glance at all the threads about the Roe decision, Democrats, and/or Biden over the last few days, and know that this forum is not engaging in productive, critical talk about problems within the Democratic Party.

What is going on here is right-wing trolling, pure and simple, and trying to tell us otherwise is a waste of time.

Biden, Pelosi Among Democrats Who Sent Fundraising Emails After Roe Ruling

Critics have reacted with anger and mockery after the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and prominent national Democrats sent fundraising emails following the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in a landmark abortion case.

The DNC sent emails to those on its mailing list seeking donations after the release of the Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization and in one case a plea for funds was attributed directly to President Joe Biden.

The DNC appealed for $7 donations in emails attributed to Team DNC and DNC HQ, respectively, and made the same request in an email ostensibly from President Biden "to help elect Democrats up and down the ballot this November."

Other Democrats who may be considered household names also sent fundraising emails. They included Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Texas gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke.

Writer and performer Matt Gehring took to Twitter on Friday and shared screenshots of one email from the DNC. He wrote: "and with that, I'm unsubscribing from the @DNC . if they had any decency, they'd direct folks to donate to abortion funds."

Comedy Central's The Daily Show appeared to mock the fundraising efforts in a tweet from its official account on Friday, posting: "EVERYONE: [apoplectically angry]" and adding "DEMOCRATIC POLITICIANS: We hear you. Please donate $3 so we can fight back against the Supreme Court with a Pro-Choice Karaoke Night in 12 weeks."

Nina Turner, a progressive Democrat and former Ohio state senator, warned on Twitter on Friday that Democrats "will all send out fundraising emails asking for money to 'fight back' once the decision drops, whether that's today or another time."

Yang is a farce, like I said earlier. Heโ€™s been as harmful to the party as Tulsi and Stein.

by Anonymousreply 65June 27, 2022 5:33 AM

I have never understood Tulsi, such a weird choice for Hawaii to pick to represent them. I used to go there a lot, know people who live there. Most of the people who live there are not like that. Almost like a Trump version of a congresswoman. I am guessing it's mostly the white conservative trash that moved there that's backing her. Not the native Hawaiians. In fact, very few of those left.
