What country would have me? I can tell you where I won't go, even as a tourist: Russia, China, Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, etc.
I wouldn't want to go where people will be instantly suspicious of me. or where capturing and jailing me would serve a foreign govt. I will avoid places that hate Catholics, places that hate bisexual women. These requirements narrows down my choices quite a bit.
Mexico or Scotland, I guess. For one, I'd need to learn some Spanish. That might be nice. Mexico is warm, which I'm used to. Plus, they're Christian mostly. Scotland will be cold and wet, but they speak English usually, even if their first language is Gaelic. Many Mexicans must know English, though. I wonder how much more affordable it'll be to live in Mexico than in Britain? There's a lot of Atheism in Britain. People laugh at people with faith. I"d have to brace for it. Ireland perhaps. It's cetrtainly a pretty place, Ireland. What kind of job could I get? Why pick a foreigner to hire when you could hire a native citizen of your own country? I don't have any friends in any of these places, no one to lean on if I need to.
I think I'l stay in the good ole US of A. For most of our history abortions were hard to get. Abortions on demand is strange and new to human history, not just here. Life should be hard to dispose of. Abortion should be a lsat resort, not a form of birth control. We'll have to rely on the old midwives system. They usually took care of abortions along with births, y'know. For almost all of human history, it's midwives we've turned to. Embryos aren't clumps of garbage inside us, like fresh shit in a rectum. No embryo, no fetus. No fetus, no baby. Babies aren't disposable here are they? It should be harder to end an inconvenient pregnancy. Many women have more than one abortion and that's not right. IF it isn't necessary for the mother, than once should be the limit. Mistakes should be learned from! Call me crazy, go on!
Use birth control like rubbers and the pill more responsibly, and an abortion or two or three won't be in your sights. Spermicide plus rubber--very effective to prevent pregnancy and sickness. Men should take more responsibility for what becomes of the seed they sow in girls and women. It's not fair how we have to be in charge of all of it. That's what I think. Just ignore me.

Canada won’t be a viable option. Millions would potentially be fleeing for the border and the fact is Canada doesn’t have the money or the man power to protect millions of refugees. And frankly, I don’t want to be anywhere near America when things really go to shit.
When things start to looks really bad (Trump or DeSantis in office, gays and women legislated against, mass shootings of gays picking up,) sell what assets you have and go to Europe. Portugal and Spain are cheap and liberal. For the poorer among us claim refugee status, those with money buy into the country.

If you want to get to Canada, Australia, UK, etc get a nursing degree. There is a shortage of nurses in W Europe/Canada/Australia. You will be considered a high value immigrant.
The Philippines has been providing nurses to the US for decades. They get a green card and in 5 years can become citizens.

by Anonymous | reply 57 | June 25, 2022 5:27 PM |
I already did it, 20 years ago, after the "9/11 New York City World Trade Center Incident" .
My choice was Mexico.
Advice:
1. Choose inland Central Mexico, for the climate. Puerto Vallarta is all fine and dandy until the heat and humidity turn it into a big drag.
2. Yes, you can collect Social Security, but don't have it deposited in a foreign bank. Maintain a USA address and bank and have it deposited there. Use ATM machines in Mexico for access to your funds.
3. Use the same address for a USA driver's license (as in #2, above).
4. You can live on very little. I am currently spending less on rent, for a house, than I spent on rent for a room in 1970. My advice would be to stay away from buying Mexican real estate. It is NOT a bargain.
5. Own a car, and a utility trailer, and move as much stuff as possible to Mexico, or otherwise you will be nickled and dimed to death, buying household stuff.
6. Do your shopping on Amazon (both USA and Mexico) for the things that are not available in a third world country.
I could go on and on, but just don't have the time.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 25, 2022 6:05 PM |

I live in California so it will take a while before they can turn it into a right wing hellhole like those godforsaken red states. In the meantime, I'll spend lot of time up North in Canada and put some more work into the property there.

The main drawback for Canada is, of course, the cold. But except for that, sure! Australia and/or New Zealand might also be a good choice but it will take a lot of time and paper work to get in there. But if you're of superior character - and wanting to get out of the U.S. would mean you are - they will admit you.
