Beyoncé just dropped a new gay anthem!!!

Loving this bop! As predicted, she’s doing a dance album that sounds a bit retro meets modern.

Queen.

“Bop”?

Stop it right now.

by Anonymousreply 1June 21, 2022 6:40 PM

Anyone who calls a song a "bop" on a board for adults deserves to be drawn and quartered.

by Anonymousreply 2June 21, 2022 6:41 PM

So boring

by Anonymousreply 3June 21, 2022 6:42 PM

Yikes. This is boring. But I'm not really into 90s house.

It is much better than the Lion King work, however.

I'm sure the critics will call it the single best song of all time and arrived just in time to save music.

by Anonymousreply 4June 21, 2022 6:42 PM

Yes. She’s channeling 90s House music.

by Anonymousreply 5June 21, 2022 6:43 PM

YAAAS KWEEN!!

some bitter gays in this thread.... it's clearly a bop. this is going to kill at the club.

by Anonymousreply 10June 21, 2022 7:10 PM

It's fun but there needs to be a better video

by Anonymousreply 11June 21, 2022 7:24 PM

R11 that’s just the lyric video. She hasn’t released a music video yet

by Anonymousreply 12June 21, 2022 7:28 PM

the lyrics are stupid

by Anonymousreply 13June 21, 2022 7:34 PM

This is the piano house we need to heal ourselves and our world. Thank you, QUEEN B!

by Anonymousreply 14June 21, 2022 7:40 PM

Is OP Roxane Gay? This is how she speaks about Beyoncé all the time. (I'm teasing, OP)

Anyway, I was quite surprised to hear her do something like this, so it's interesting to me from that perspective. I'll probably give it a few listens, and I'm not at all a fan of hers. The bit with what sounds like a guitar sample I liked particularly.

(as an aside, here is Roxane talking about it. I'm laughing at the line: "stylistically it understands 90's House" - so Roxy is an expert here on this topic now too!)

[quote]I love Break My Soul. It’s a great great record. Stylistically it understands 90s House. Big Freedia! And plz let’s discuss Doms in the back.

Bwahahaha R18! I was waiting to find out something like this - it seems right on brand for Beyoncé to do that!

by Anonymousreply 20June 21, 2022 8:28 PM

R18, no it doesn't. Stop lying. Queen Bey has the utmost respect for Robyn and all house legends. But don't lie again bitch.

by Anonymousreply 21June 21, 2022 8:29 PM

It's amazing how stupid songs are when you read the lyrics.

by Anonymousreply 22June 21, 2022 8:35 PM

I'm sure she'll win another five or six Grammys for this boring ass song. At this point, Beyoncé fart on record for an hour and guaranteed a Grammy.

by Anonymousreply 23June 21, 2022 8:36 PM

A Goddess

by Anonymousreply 24June 21, 2022 8:45 PM

I like the tempo. I hope that's a sign of sexier rhythms to come in dance music generally. Sick of ice-inspired full-tilt inanity.

by Anonymousreply 25June 21, 2022 8:46 PM

Good point, R25. I don't think this is the most amazing thing I've heard, but if it signified more music like this, that could be fun. It's the reason why, for all her bat-shittery, I still really loved Azealia Banks' 1991 EP.

by Anonymousreply 26June 21, 2022 8:52 PM

R26 YES! It sounds so much like Anna Wintour to me!

R27 they actually sound nothing alike.

by Anonymousreply 29June 21, 2022 8:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 30June 21, 2022 8:56 PM

R29 You don't hear it? Both songs are house music with a grand gospel-like chorus.

by Anonymousreply 31June 21, 2022 8:58 PM

It’s based on Robin S’s Show Me Love.

by Anonymousreply 32June 21, 2022 8:59 PM

R32 no. It isn’t.

by Anonymousreply 33June 21, 2022 9:02 PM

Azealia is adored by the music industry behind the scenes. Most appreciate her from afar because, obviously, they have some hesitancy with dealing with her. I could write an extensive essay about why, but I'm too tired lol. Robin S is probably SWIMMING in royalty money right now, because Charli XCX sampled Show Me Love for her latest single Used to Know Me.

by Anonymousreply 34June 21, 2022 9:07 PM

I didn’t like her Lion King album but It was also an artistic album, not something she was trying to push on radio stations.

The only song I liked from it was “Brown Skin Girl”, which is a very sweet, powerful, beautiful and POSITIVE song with a very pleasant sound.

She is very derivative. This sounds like a Janet or Ciara song to me, they were making this style of music back in the 2000s. Azealia did a similar song too, Anna Wintour. Also Kelala has this sound too. Beyonce never set trends though.

It is kind of silly, given that Freedia has collaborated with Drake, Kesha, Gaga, RuPaul and a lot of others. If you want her on the song, give her credit.

by Anonymousreply 42June 21, 2022 10:10 PM

Beyonce is infamous for copying other people's sound. Her team makes her untouchable. I don't get how Justin Timberlake and Jennifer Lopez get dragged for being copycats and overly reliant on producers but Beyonce is untouchable.

by Anonymousreply 43June 21, 2022 10:13 PM

R43 you just described GaGa

by Anonymousreply 44June 21, 2022 10:14 PM

R44 She's included too and Taylor Swift as well. At least Katy Perry and Rihanna don't pretend to be anything else but fun pop stars. Beyonce, Taylor and Gaga all have this pretentious "artiste" persona. And a massive cult of fans who worship the ground they walk on and the media kisses their asses for some reason. They can fart into a microphone and still get nominated for Grammys

by Anonymousreply 45June 21, 2022 10:19 PM

Sub bottom anthem - Break My Hole - get those coins Queen B

by Anonymousreply 46June 21, 2022 10:26 PM

Beyonce rarely acknowledges her gay fanbase. She only said something a few years ago with Jay-Z to honor them in like 2019 or something but back in the 2000s when she was at her peak, she said nothing to vocally support gays nor showed interest in gay rights. And no, having gay backup dancers, wearing drag queen wig and stilettos and hiring Frank Ocean for a song doesn't really count. What's her excuse? Mary J Blige, Toni Braxton, Mo'Nique, Janet, Nicki and Ciara have called out homophobia and/or supported gays in public.

by Anonymousreply 47June 21, 2022 10:34 PM

R47 how many of the young pop stars did back then? Madonna was so massive to us for a reason. Most of them ignored us. GaGa did it starting in 2009. Before her almost none of them did. So it’s kind of stupid to hold it against one.

R48 Beyonce's debut album was huge and she was pretty untouchable after that. Also, gays and black women were her main audience after 2010 or so when she stopped getting hits. She amassed a huge Twitter following called the Beyhive which was mostly gays. The fact it took her until the late 2010s or so to make an announcement of support for the gay community seems a bit dirty. I don't really hate her for it but it just shows she doesn't give a shit about anyone but herself and that's why I don't understand gays who worship these straight female celebrities who use gays for sales. Madonna did break grounds for supporting gays back in the 80s and Gaga while becoming derivative and boring deserves her gay icon status for making her support clear from her debut and onward.

by Anonymousreply 51June 21, 2022 10:46 PM

Madonna did it so much better. She was 47 when she released Confession on a Dance floor and it was a huge success worldwide. Beyonce seems too old to pull it off, even though she's only 40. Madonna was certainly in better physical shape at 47 than Beyonce at 40.

I just noticed that Madonna has never shown any interest in Beyonce and vice-versa. Do they dislike each other?

Beyonce took a lot from Madonna. The high-budget music videos, feminism, pageantry and religious/goddess persona. Madonna gets compared to Michael Jackson but I don't see it nor do I see Janet. I see a mix of Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Madonna and Grace Jones. Madonna can't sing but she accomplished a shit ton on her own while Beyonce had tons of help.

Madonna actually seems to praise most people. If she doesn't like them, she usually just says nothing like with Janet. The only person she seems to have hated from what I know is Lady Gaga. Madonna's comments on Whitney were taken out of context, definitely was jealousy of success but it seems more critique towards a double standard.

by Anonymousreply 72June 22, 2022 1:30 AM

Madonna loves those who came after her and were super successful and acknowledge her as an inspiration, like Britney or Beyoncé.

GaGa stole a lot from Madonna but never credited her.

by Anonymousreply 73June 22, 2022 1:32 AM

Well Madonna never credited those she stole from either.

by Anonymousreply 74June 22, 2022 1:32 AM

Madonna hopped on trends and definitely took from lesser known acts. I think she got away with it because she had no competition for a while and who could challenge her. Michael Jackson had similar to peerlessness which nobody could point out his snatching songs. Madonna's Confessions was clearly derivative of Kylie Minogue but Kylie was a two-hit wonder in America, so not competition. I think when Hard Candy came out, it was such a blatant copy of Nelly Furtado, Britney and Timberlake's albums with the same producer that it woke the public up.

by Anonymousreply 75June 22, 2022 1:39 AM

I think people just struggled with the fact a 50 year old was making music like she was 25 still r75

Stealing from lesser known acts isn’t the same as stealing from one of the biggest pop stars ever. GaGa even made a sex book.

It’s like Show Me Love but repetitive and not catchy with crappy vocals

by Anonymousreply 79June 22, 2022 1:47 AM

by Anonymousreply 80June 22, 2022 1:49 AM

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 81June 22, 2022 1:53 AM

Beyonce does a lot different sounds but she fails to explore anything. The most experimental album she had was "4" and that wasn't as successful. Which was a shame because she showed her most artistic growth with this album.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 82June 22, 2022 1:56 AM

She actually seemed most proud of “4” out of all her albums. She treated it like her baby. But it didn’t perform as well as her previous 3.

by Anonymousreply 83June 22, 2022 2:00 AM

She should be proud. She put a lot of effort into B'Day and 4 and neither really matched her team's expectations. I think she loves funk and soul music and seems most comfortable with it. Unfortunately, she's too self-conscious to take too many risks and follow her gut. That is my biggest issue is she's too conservative about her image and maintaining her stature. Too many Grammy-bait projects and lack of soul or emotional attachment. When she is given freedom, she shines. Like pre-freed Britney, she is just drugged out and takes a lot of orders.

by Anonymousreply 84June 22, 2022 2:07 AM

Her first and third albums are my fav of hers.

by Anonymousreply 85June 22, 2022 2:11 AM

It's a very basic House-influenced bop, but I was hoping for something meatier from her. As for R&B and hip-hop House crossovers, Azealia Banks' decade+ work in this sound is hard to beat.

R73, Gaga has repeatedly said she loved and was inspired by Madonna. Gaga and Madonna were close at the very beginning of Gaga's rise. But then Gaga did Madonna a little too well. Plus, she could actually sing and play instruments. Which drove Madonna insane. Then the hatred began. But I think they're all buddy buddy again.

When I started going to techno clubs in the early 90s, Show Me Love was sampled everywhere.

In the 2000s when I listened to my millennial niece's playlist, Show Me Love kept turning up.

Now Beyoncé. It's a good enough song, but any of the great house songs of the 90s is better. Her lyrics/vocals add nothing.

by Anonymousreply 98June 22, 2022 5:11 AM

[quote]no. It isn’t.

Well, the songwriters of "Show Me Love" are credited as songwriters of "Break My Soul" so...

[quote]It's a good enough song, but any of the great house songs of the 90s is better.

Very true. What happened to me today was I heard this Beyoncé song, thought: "Oh, this reminds me how much I like House music" and I subsequently spent the day listening to the really excellent stuff, rather than revisiting her song again.

All these weirdos on Twitter getting so excited about "Queen Bey telling us to quit our jobs!" Really? So multi-millionaire Beyoncé suggests you quit your jobs and you think that's a great idea? Is she going to be paying your bills?

There was a really funny tweet that I can't find now of some girl desperately trying to make an argument about how "vital" it was for Beyoncé to sample other songs, as a show of, I dunno, strength or something? It was hilarious because you could tell the girl was trying to convince herself that Beyoncé was a much more thoughtful musician than she deep down knew the reality was.

I have no idea why Roxane Gay, who is nearly 50, is constantly writing about Beyoncé on Twitter like she's a 14 year old girl. And this "Queen Bey" shit people indulge in is so ridiculous.
