Ginger Ale (any brand) is the best for many reasons: It quenches thirst on a hot day, a great mixer for cocktails, and helps soothe a queasy stomach. Love it.

Peach Crush is the best, but almost impossible to find these days out of the Deep Red South. Kroger used to have a store brand version at King Soopers, but that disappeared many years ago.
I agree with Fresca and Squirt as being the best.
Fresca + Strawberry Stoli is fantastic
Squirt and Gin is also good - a Squirt Engine
Adding crushed strawberries make both cocktails better.
I don't care for Fresca and Gin.

Reed's Extra Ginger Brew? Is this a new brand? I only see Canada Dry Ginger Ale and the awful Seagram's being sold at supermarkets, chain drugstores and Costco only carries Canada Dry..
by Anonymous | reply 104 | June 21, 2022 6:49 AM |
I know them on the West coast, but Reed's products are carried by some Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Gristedes in Manhattan and by Wegmans regionally, so they have a presence there.

by Anonymous | reply 114 | June 21, 2022 5:29 PM |
Not really, R113, especially for the past ten years or so. I'm extremely diabetic, so it's got to be diet soda. About four years ago, I discovered that the colas were giving me kidney stones, so I rarely drink them anymore. If it has to be a cola, Diet Pepsi is my go-to drink, because it's not cloyingly sweet like the 'Zero' sodas often are. I like Canada Dry Zero Ginger Ale, but I wish it wasn't so sweet.
I like unsweetened sparkling waters, especially lime-flavored. I have a 33oz of that almost every day. It helps me reach my hydration quota.
As a kid, I tried all sorts of sodas. If the carbonation level was capable of burning my throat and sinuses, I was impressed (favorable mention of Dr Pepper, Orange Crush, Frosty Rootbeer). Throughout the late 70s and through the 80s, I was mostly a Dr Pepper guy, or 7 UP.
In the late 80s, I went through a spell where drinking sodas used to bring on almost instant urinary tract infections, so I stopped altogether for a while. The transition from cane sugar to high fructose corn syrup was also a watershed; pretty much all soda tasted different after that, which further discouraged me from drinking them.
Today's 'Zero' formulations are great, but they all taste too sweet to me. If they could just kick it down a notch - but I know they won't. So sparkling water it is.

That's what beats me out of trying most new flavors, assuming they interest me (and I have to admit, 'Flamin' Hot Mountain Dew doesn't). But last week I ran across a 'Zero' version of Dark Berry Dr Pepper, which my brother insisted that I buy. It's not bad.

I love all of the Polar brand seltzer’s. The bubble size is unique.
Also love diet cream soda. Mmmmmm…..cream

OMG. No wonder you’re all so fat.

Soda is just liquid candy with bubbles! That’s terrible for you!

Do most in this thread have diabetes? Missing any toes yet?
If not now, you will very soon.

Pepsi Mango seems to have been discontinued at CVS stores in NYC and I’m pissed.

This summer I’m very into Sprite Zero.

Dearest OP,
I'm not sure why you'd even have to ask this silly question, much less have a poll with all those inferior brand choices.
Blessings,

You must have gorgeous teeth too. The combo of carbonation and sugar is terrible for teeth. I know this for a fact, my parents were huge soda drinkers, it was always in our home, always served with meals. I've spent most of my adult life rectifying their many mistakes and serving soda was one of them. I've spent thousands on my teeth.

Sometimes laboratory engineered drinks are best not sold to humans. For you youngsters reading this, Fizzies were horrifyingly awful. Take the effervescent properties and retch inducing taste sensation of Alka Seltzer and throw in a shitload of the banned sweetener sodium cyclamate, some citric acid and artificial fruit flavor and you have a soda treat for the ages!
by Anonymous | reply 183 | July 16, 2022 9:07 AM |
Soda is very pleasant. I’m 50, good teeth, no diabetes. Mostly drink diet, sometimes regular. I don’t drink alcohol. Soda is my fun drink.

Wild Cherry Pepsi Zero Sugar 🍒
by Anonymous | reply 185 | July 16, 2022 10:39 PM |
R185, I just tried it and it didn’t suck.
I’m seeing Cherry Sprite again after a few years. It’s damn refreshing.

I need a Cherry Sprite Zero, if it exists. Cherry 7up Zero is ok but I need to compare. To consume!!!

Frank’s. A mid Atlantic regional brand of sodas. Their cream soda is to die for…
by Anonymous | reply 192 | July 24, 2022 11:25 PM |
r192 Frank's Cream soda was the best of its kind BITD. The same could be said for many of their other great flavors: Black Cherry Wishniak, Orange and I think they had a knockoff Seven-Up as well.
Dr. Brown's Black Cherry is tasty and snappy.
Cherry Coke is my go to when I'm eating pizza(don't judge)
Another vote for Canada Dry Ginger Ale.
The Holy Grail though has to be Schweppes Bitter Lemon soda. Readily available years ago, now impossible to find in stores. The Big A has it, natch, but I'm not taking out a second mortgage to buy some. You had to carefully swirl the bottle to redistribute the solids(mostly lemon bits) that had settled to the bottom, and then be very careful popping the top because it fizzed up quite a bit. It was supposedly a great mixer, but I enjoyed it just as it was. VERY tart and bitter, I'll bet there was a bit of quinine in it that helped it to have the sharpness that it did. It had a rather odd, pale greenish/grey color, but it didn't detract from the enjoyment. I wonder what happened to Cmdr. Whitehead(?), the veddy British gent that was their spokesman?

Mea culpa!
by Anonymous | reply 194 | July 25, 2022 2:22 AM |
I haven't heard of at least half of these, if not more - and I'm 53. However, soda/soft drinks were forbidden in our home, so I only really knew about the ones that advertised on TV.
I do drink soda sometimes, but I never buy it for myself to keep in the fridge. It's almost always when I eat out/take-out. I prefer diet Coke because diet Pepsi sucks. But I've noticed that Pepsi products have really taken over the lionshare of restaurant business which sucks.

My fave is Jarritos Tamarind soda.

Have any of you tried Dr. Pepper Zero and Dr. Pepper Zero - Cherry. Game changer!!!

Boston area friends insist that Moxie is delightful, yet I've never had one. What's it like, and is it worth the fuss?
by Anonymous | reply 198 | July 25, 2022 5:37 AM |
There’s a Mexican soda. An apple flavored soda. I can only buy it from the Mexican restaurant around the corner from my house.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | July 25, 2022 9:52 AM |
I once had a Mexican green apple soda at a gas station in Idaho. It’s a Proustian memory.

I’m enjoying a glass of Diet Rite Pure Zero Cola. It’s made by Dr. Pepper/7 Up. Mrs Southwick used to drink a glass of it every afternoon with 1/2 of a peanut butter sandwich as a snack. She went to dialysis 3 times a week for years and she told me her doctor said Diet Rite was milder to the system than Diet Coke/ Coke Zero or Diet Pepsi / Pepsi Zero Sugar. It tastes pretty good for being calorie, caffeine and salt free.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | July 25, 2022 4:44 PM |
I tried Moxie a few times in Boston last summer. Not a fan.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | July 25, 2022 8:40 PM |
The Mexican sodas are made with real sugar, not that disgusting corn syrup!
by Anonymous | reply 203 | July 25, 2022 8:45 PM |
I largely quit drinking sodas several years ago, but I will always have a soft spot for RC as the underdog cola.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | July 25, 2022 8:55 PM |
R195 I think restaurants switched to Pepsi because it’s much cheaper. I hate it!

Vernors, the Original Ginger Soda. Vernors Zero Sugar is also delicious and makes a great cocktail mixer. Vernors has a bolder, more refreshing taste than boring ginger ale. Squirt is also a very tasty soda and is the rare "refreshing" ones.

by Anonymous | reply 208 | July 28, 2022 3:15 PM |
It's not at all guaranteed that Mexican sodas contain only cane sugar these days. I've been to Mexico recently and many products including some Coke and Pepsi products and Dr. Pepper, had corn syrup in them.

Moxie.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | August 2, 2022 1:52 AM |
r210 I hate spunk, but I like Moxie. 😉
AFAIK it cannot be found on grocers' shelves outside of New England(I only ever saw it in Maine) It was made by an independent company but Coca-Cola owns it now. Look to the sainted Amazon if you get the jones for it.

You can get Moxie and Diet Moxie at Price Chopper/Market 32 and Hannafords in Vermont and at many smaller stores. I'm not sure if Shaws has it.
I don't like it. It tastes like liquid ashtray.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | August 2, 2022 11:37 PM |
