95% on RT: Brought to life by a tremendously talented cast, the breezily entertaining Fire Island proves there are still fresh ways to update Austen.

The critics are insane & unreliable now. This movie is barely a step above an Adam Sandler debacle.

A tasty set-up, and Fire Island should have been a rom-com smash. Instead, it’s stuck in first gear, its capable cast hampered by a dull, over-written screenplay that’s never as fun or as funny as it needs to be.

The movie is really rather boring, contrived to match an 18th century Austen novel, and completely forgettable. None of the love scenes, other than the backroom sex scenes, are believable. The drug humor is lame and the real stuff was left out. The only thing memorable is that cell phones are apparently waterproof now.

Levy, a creator whose own experiences were reflected through Schitt’s Creek, has been thrilled to see his friends tell stories that have rarely been seen in the mainstream until now.

“I know how rare it is to get the opportunity to tell this story without any interference,” he says. “I’ve been DMing with Bowen [Yang] about all the success that Fire Island has been having, and I’m just so happy for all of them.”

I enjoyed the show. You can’t watch something like this with a critic hat on.

Sure it was silly and forgettable but it did a good job of showing Fire Island’s main spots

I just watched the 1940s version of Pride and Prejudice again. I laughed. I cried.

Started out thinking it was a bad Hallmark movie. Ended up thinking it was a kind of cute Hallmark movie. Could’ve, should’ve been better.

It's a small thing but it annoyed me when Booster used the word "faggot" in the voice over and then carefully explained that he's allowed to use that word. I think if this movie was made for gay people and not the straight mainstream then that explanation wouldn't have been necessary. It took me out of the movie.
