Judy Garland was born 100 years ago!

June 10, 1922 was when little Frances hit the stage.

You see, it was during a matinee on Friday, and they used a makeup towel for her didee.......

Gay extra credit trivia - also born on the same day was Robert Alan Aurthur, who was Bea Arthur's first husband. They divorced, but she kept the last name (but spelled it more traditionally).

That's a very pretty picture of her.

Why did people call her Bea when she was billed Beatrice?

by Anonymousreply 5June 3, 2022 9:25 PM

She was going to go by Bernice, but Gene Saks talked her out of it.

Judy was one of the most talented singers ever. She also had a lot of pain and struggle throughout her life. Despite that, she had a good heart, which is hard to encounter in Hollywood. At a time when gay people were oppressed beyond belief, they identified with her struggles and she theirs.

A group of gay friends (men & women) used to visit her grave site at Hartsdale's Ferncliff Cemetery in Westchester County, NY on her birthday every year. When Lisa moved her grave to Los Angeles a few years ago, some of the group made the trek out there. This year, I'm guessing they'll be a lot of visitors on June 10th.

by Anonymousreply 29June 10, 2022 3:03 PM

R29 Take it from us. It's obvious that it's about "The Man that God turned Gay!"

by Anonymousreply 30June 10, 2022 3:19 PM

"For a talent like Ms. Garland ... it's just tragic. They don't come along like that very often. And it's just sad she didn't treasure it more and take care of it more."

And TODAY is the anniversary of Judy's death.
