Human storytelling at it's finest. (Actually the whole of Genesis and Exodus is). Specially considering that the era when this stories originated (the collapse of the Iron Age of just after, historiographically speaking) was a pretty low time in human history.
Regardless if you're religous or not (I'm not) you can't deny that this passage/story of Exodus is pretty spectacular

There is absolutely zero archeological evidence of even a small to moderate migration of any group from Israel to Egypt, let alone one taking forty years! No buried fire pits, latrines, clay pots, animal bones, dwellings, nothing!
The stories in Exodus are among the best in the bible and are so compelling, but we know for a fact they are 100% fiction.
