What is the best of these nine Top 10 Hits from Heart?

Which of their nine songs to crack the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 is their best?

I say it is their biggest one, still known today, and their second #1, “Alone”. It’s a classic and the epitome of mid-late 80s pop music. It is pretty much the perfect example of an 80s pop song.

Why did they have no more success post-1990?

As a kid I thought “Total Eclipse of the Heart” was by them too.

I voted for "Nothin' at All," which is my second favorite Heart song. My favorite, "Barracuda," was not a Top 10 hit (as hard as that is to believe) so I couldn't vote for it.

Why didn't they continue their success into the 1990s? Who knows? Probably because that kind of pop rock went out of style and never really came back. Same thing happened to Journey, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon and others.

I also wish I could have voted for “Barracuda.”

These Dreams.

Barracuda didn’t crack the Top 10

This was a great single from the 1990 album.

This was the followup single to ALL I WANNA DO IS MAKE LOVE TO YOU. Just missed the top 10 and got lots of airplay on MTV and VH1. Nancy does lead vocals. My favorite off that album.

Here's an edgier single from BRIGADE. I actually really liked that album as a kid.

oh please, the only good Heart music is from the 70s. Their 80s music is Diane Warren schlock.

R13 I love The Money Pit. That is my response to that.

Their 70s stuff is very different from their 80s stuff

There's the girl is my favourite song but it's a close call but that song ain't listed in poll unfortunately. They were an absolutely divine rock group.

Of the top 10s I'll go with Alone followed closely by Magic Man. Though All I wanna do is a guilty pleasure--such a tacky, schlocky song.

Reason why Heart's hits dried up after 1990 or so: grunge. Rock scene changed. Seattle grunge groups liked Heart's 70s stuff but not their 80s commercial rock. Heart did release an album in late 1992 called Desire Walks On. For that album the Wilsons were able to write/co write most of the songs, but the record company still made them record two songs of their choosing--a cover of Donna Summer's Woman in Me, and the Mutt Lange song Will You Be there in the morning, which was in the vein of their 80s power ballad hits. Those were the two songs released as singles and neither did all that well. The songs Ann and Nancy wrote were stronger and more in their 70s style with some grunge touches, though the producers threw in some big 80s keyboards into the mix. Not sure if any of the Wilson songs would have been hits in 92/93 as they really weren't hit songwriters, but I like the album as it was a transition away from their 80s sound. In their autobiography, this is the song from Desire Walks On that Ann and Nancy felt should have been the single. I like it but doesn't sound like a hit to me in any format (pop, Rock, grunge, etc.).

r17I wonder if they will ever tour again?

r17 r18 ^^^

I always consider “Crazy On You” perhaps their best song, but, like the similarly spectacular “Barracuda”, I guess it wasn’t a Top 10 hit. Ah, well…

by Anonymousreply 20May 18, 2022 10:32 PM

Thanks for posting this thread OP. I love their music and their voices are so strong.

saw Ann on Kelly Clarkson and she looked really good . But the song she sang from her new solo album was terrible! an awful instantly forgettable ballad and she didn't sound good either.
