Replace NATO. Form a new western security alliance. Admit Ukraine. Drop a new Iron Curtain. Isolate Russia.

Insisting on Russian weaknesses against all evidence to the contrary is pathetic - and tragic for Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Russia racks up military successes. And all we talk about is how the war is unpopular at home, their military is not strong really, their nuclear power is actually outdated, Ukraine will defeat Russia, Putin is on his last legs, sanctions are weakening him, yadda yadda yadda... It's pathetic wishful thinking.

So what you're saying is "Go to war with Russia".

Will you be volunteering?

by Anonymousreply 1March 4, 2022 9:42 PM

Sorry, the link. Useless organization from last century's cold War.

Zelenskiy said Nato countries had created a narrative that a no-fly zone would provoke Russian aggression against Nato.

In an emotional nighttime address, he said: 'All the people who die from this day forward will also die because of you, because of your weakness, because of your lack of unity.'

[quote] narrative that a no-fly zone would provoke Russian aggression against Nato.

That's not a narrative its the truth. It'd effectively be the US, UK and French air forces telling Russia its about to start shooting their planes down, and hoping a dictator who can't afford to back down against NATO without getting Gaddafied doesn't take that as the declaration of war it ultimately is, at which point the doomsday clock leaps forward about 99 seconds.

by Anonymousreply 4March 5, 2022 2:36 PM

Meh. Russia wouldn't dare against a unified US UK EU NATO force. Putin is a paper tiger. He can't count on China either. He's more isolated than he'd let on.

by Anonymousreply 6March 5, 2022 3:44 PM

OP, you propose in your opening remarks, to replace NATO with a western alliance?

That’s pretty much what NATO already is… 👇🏽

Don’t quit your day job.

by Anonymousreply 8March 5, 2022 4:44 PM

You don’t have to replace NATO. You can have as many alliances as you want.

This is a NATO hit job.

by Anonymousreply 9March 5, 2022 4:54 PM

NATO is demonstrating it is useless. It's caught up in rules regulations and bureaucracy.

by Anonymousreply 10March 6, 2022 5:10 AM

NATO is not useless. It’s what stopping them from invading many other countries. They chose Ukraine because it was NOT nato protected. That prices NATO is both valuable and necessary.

What you need to do is leave NATO in place but use a new and spontaneous alliance to just defend Ukraine. Not start any wars. Just go in and defend a sovereign country.

by Anonymousreply 11March 6, 2022 5:19 AM

NATO is afraid of Russia. Why, I cannot fathom.

by Anonymousreply 12March 6, 2022 7:14 AM

If you can't see that OP is a Russian troll, I would like to show you a lovely piece of property in Palm Beach.

by Anonymousreply 13March 6, 2022 5:17 PM

With these new applications from Moldova and Georgia for EU membership, a new European security alliance is even more urgent. NATO ain't gonna cut it. It's too bound into a moribund organizational inertia and bureaucratese.

Keep it European. Leave the US out. It's putrefied and riddled with Putin agents and plants. Bring Ukraine in immediately.

I told them so. They wouldn't listen to me.

"At a summit in the former royal palace, the 27 heads of state and government said on Friday that the invasion of Ukraine had shown the urgent need for the EU to take responsibility for its own security and to rid itself of dependencies on others."

Yeah I'm sure NATO that's been telling its members to upgrade its military capabilities and expenditure for the last decade is really going to hate its members rearming. Truly the bloc is dead.

by Anonymousreply 17March 12, 2022 1:26 PM

NATO's fundamental error is to rely on the US. You see where that got Ukraine.

But i lay the blame on Europe which ever since WW2 has gotten the US to pay for everything and fight its wars. The US was the overgrown dumb rich new kid in school that everyone takes advantage of.

Let Britain off the hook. Its got problems at home. But Europe really needs to get its shit together. Russia is just a country with less than half the population of Europe, with a second rate economy.

Brussels needs to get its head out its ass. It needs to establish three tiers of EU membership, going up from the largest military/security to political to, finally, financial which will have the most stringent criteria for admission.

The US wants it that way, dipshit. We don’t want European countries militarizing again. Especially Germany. We want to sell our weapons to Europe so we can make trillions.

by Anonymousreply 19March 14, 2022 3:12 AM

R19 Fine. Whatever. What the US wants it will no longer necessarily get these days. It won't be easy for Biden to fix the screw ups over the last 20 years.

And mind your language. I realize you were probably not brought up to know any better but you can still improve.

by Anonymousreply 20March 14, 2022 12:32 PM

Thé world nato whoever must do something . Remember the words of George Constanta : «  you could have stuffed Neville chamberlains head in the toilet , and he still would have given away half of Europe . »

Russia warns Finland with retaliation if it joins NATO. Cause for worry or fear?

by Anonymousreply 24May 12, 2022 5:24 PM

They can hardly manage to take out poor Ukraine, I don't think a nation like Finland, which has beaten Russia in 2 wars already needs to be worried. Do they really think they can fight a war on two fronts?

by Anonymousreply 25May 12, 2022 7:22 PM

[quote]Meanwhile, Russia racks up military successes.

Are you insane, OP? They've had no military successes at all - it's been one disaster for them after another!

by Anonymousreply 26May 12, 2022 7:49 PM

Russian with all its nuke bluster sounds more and more like North Korea every day. In a word - pathetic.

by Anonymousreply 27May 12, 2022 9:44 PM

r24 Cause for nothing. They can't nuke Finland without also taking out St. Petersburg so that's about 95% of their threat level gone. Most of the Russian army is busy in the Ukraine and can't fight a 2 front war anyway. The UK has just signed a mutual defence pact with Finland for the joining NATO interim so the end result of invasion would be Russia invading a country it couldn't conquer at the height of Stalin's power backed militarily by the UK and at the very least economically by the entire EU.

by Anonymousreply 28May 13, 2022 12:20 AM

Russia is winning in Ukraine. They’ve got Donbas, Luhansk, Crimea and now they’ve got Mariupol. So Ithey’ve got the Black Sea ports and a land bridge between Russia, Donbas, Luhansk and Criimea.

But god forbid we say Mariupol surrendered or that it’s lost.

The Russian speaking Ukrainians have moved into Mariupol. They’ll start rebuilding & they’ll take over the city. Russia will pump the city full of Russians and call it a Russian city. Just like they’ve done to so many cities in the former USSR.

Stalin is the one who filled Ukraine with Russians after he starved out and deported the original inhabitants. Stalin did it to many different ethnic groups including Poles, Germans, Finns, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Koreans, Chinese, Kurds, Iranians, chechens, Tatars, Kalmyks, Turks, Greeks, Bulgarians, Karakalpaks.

Russia wants warm water ports for their navy. They’ve got Kherson, now Mariupol. They’ll take Odessa next. They have a lot of Russians working against Ukraine within the city. Putin very much wants Odessa and he doesn’t want to destroy the waterfront. He’s been targeting apartment towers. He’ll get what he wants but it’s going to cost him. He has plans to go into other countries and take their border areas. He didn’t figure Ukraine would cost him so much time and money.

He’ll have to rebuild cities. He can import Russians to fill cities but they have to have a place to live. They have to have functioning infrastructure. He didn’t calculate how much the cost of resistance would be. It will take away from his master plan to retake the Baltics. He is weaker after Ukraine. He may be pissed off and looking to cause mass destruction but he has less money & less support now. Even his allies like Hungary are standing back and saying, “Hmm. Maybe I should rethink this.”
