Famous People Who Always Seem (or always seemed) Unhappy
My list would include:
Valerie Bertinelli - my inspiration for this thread
Jane Fonda - seems moody and discontented, and just a little above-it-all in any situation
Angelina Jolie - tries to fake it, but doesn't seem to actually enjoy being around fellow earthlings
Patricia Arquette - usually disgruntled, even when all dressed up and accepting an award
Chelsea Handler - doesn't seem relaxed or happy even when she laughs or smiles

I almost said Johnny Carson, but I would describe him as someone who doesn't feel comfortable in general, not necessarily unhappy.

Most celebrity are deeply unhappy. The worst thing is whatever you said or did that was rediculous would still be remembered by the public even after decades. Whitney Houston is still mocked for her Diane Sawyer interview a DECADE after her death. That's awful. Being famous is not worth it.

I don't know. Saying all celebrities seem unhappy is not strictly true. I think to be human there is a melancholy about it. It's a struggle to be happy for most I believe. Maybe that need for mass love celebrities need could cause unhappiness to be more prevalent.

R54 I think Brando was more insane than unhappy, I’ve read that he was relatively normal and sweet in the start of his career and then something shifted and he became a monster around the time of his Japan trip.
OP’s list is spot-on, I think Joaquin and the Olsen twins are more moody or introverted than unhappy, which is why they come off that way since they’re public figures and public figures need to always be a lighter mood.

Happiness is fleeting and ebbs and flows. It's really hard to tell how "happy" someone is by external indicators. There's acutely happy - in the particular moment, and there's broader "happiness" which I think is better described as "contentment" or "well being." You could be a stable, very content person overall and still have terrible days or weeks where you're very unhappy.

[quote]Dick Cavett
I know he's been open about struggling with depression, but Dick Cavett didn't *seem* unhappy, per se. He was upbeat and interested as a talk show host, and he had a good sense of humor - self-deprecating, dry, and never mean-spirited. He smiled and laughed a lot, and it seemed natural and genuine.

You'll never know what someone is like from their TV appearances or magazine interviews. Patricia Arquette frequently tweets about political stuff or social injustice that annoys her like many of us did in our free time during the Trump administration.
I got to spend some time backstage on Chelsea Handlers E! show. She always seemed friendly and relaxed. The atmosphere was upbeat which is uncommon since putting on a live show is stressful. Staff liked being there.

Maybe not very happy, but I think she got to enjoy her money, living in her Marie Antoinette apartment. She seemed like she had a decent relationship w/Melissa and a good relationship with her grandson. She did date, apparently. She traveled and hung out with Judge Judy and Cindy Adams. Those 2 women may not be your cup of tea (not mine), but she did have friends on her level (rich).

Some people never have the slightest hope of passing, and that includes little tiny transmen. At best, they get a few years as a boy, and then they turn into gnomes. And Page waited until any hope of boyishness was gone.
