I can’t believe that same people who support Nathan Chen dare to make fun of Sasha Trusova. Newsflash, this girl landed 5 quads - same amount as your new favorite Aspie. If Chen‘s mediocre skate is called *historic*, what is hers then? Chen didn’t skate any more beautiful than her, both of their programs are duper empty choreography-wise until all jumps are done etc. Trusova had the better background music, though, while Chen skated to dame Elton with the most hokey facial expressions.

^Perhaps Trusova should've skated in the Men's Free Skate instead. She has a heavy, plodding, masculine quality to her skating.

You do realize that the number of quads doesn't affect the rest of the program choreography at all, don't you? From a choreography viewpoint, a jump is a jump be it a double or a quad. They take infinitesimally small differences in time to complete. Stinking Jason Brown's choreo would still be the exact same if he could land a stinking quad. Nathan has far superior presentation skills to Trusova. Her jumps were stunning, but it wasn't like Scherbakova didn't hit quads as well. You'd be better off comparing her to the Chinese male skater Jin Boyang. He could do quads but not skate with any emotion or artistry.

R35 she is not an ice princess but skated a program that fitted her skating style. She was the only skater to skate to hard rock with heavy mascara. And please don’t forget about all those gay fairies in the men‘s competition. Do you suggest that Hanyu should skate in the ladies‘ event because his skating has a light, delicate, feminine quality?

Watching Trusova skate was like watching a Terminator robot perform.

R36 Firstly, let’s not forget Trusova is a woman and not a man. If anything her technical achievement is much greater than Nathan‘s. Nathan Chen won for NO other reason than consistently landing 5 quads since the LP at the 2028 Olympics. Why did Chen get all this attention ? - for the number of quads and nothing else. Nobody would call him a beautiful skater and without his jumps jumps nobody would watch him. His carriage is poor (that neck!), the movements are plenty but jerky and spastic, he cannot hold an edge. Boyang has poor carriage but actually does skate with emotion and used to be very competitive at all podiums when he landed this quads consistently. Someone like Daniel Grassl skates like a robot with cheated prerotated quads. Sherbs skated with very questionable technique - all of her jumps looked prerotated as hell ( more than 1 revolution) in real time. Her *quads* are not comparable to Trusova‘s at all.

Nathan Chen is musical and has choreo. He's managed to stay musically connected to a wide variety of music, including Stravinsky and jazz. Nor does he show any sign of being on the spectrum. He isn't as fluid a skater as Hanyu, but that's true of a number of male champions. The anti-Chen troll is taking Nathan's win very badly.

As for Trusova, yeah, her lack of skills does remind me of Bonaly--though Bonaly had an independent streak that made her fun to watch.

From what I've read elsewhere, Trusova was furious about not getting gold after doing all those quads, particularly after she wasn't put in the team competition, which meant not only was she not getting the team gold, but that she *also* didn't get the honor of being the first woman to land a quad at the Olympics. Given how Trusova has been a leader in women's quads, I can see why she was pissed. But, historically, Olympic judges don't give the gold to skaters who just jump--Tonya Harding, Boyang Jin, Midori Ito all have had a harder time with judges than skaters less talented at jumping, but with better overall skills. Nathan Chen's been working hard on his presentation skills for years for just that reason.

At this point, the emphasis on quad jumps for women is actively damaging the sport because the quad technique being used requires prerotation,a really low weight to pull off and a lot of stress on the back. It actively limits the span of a skater's career to a couple of years. To me, the big shame about Kamila Valieva isn't simple the doping of a 15-year-old, it's also a truly talented skater being taught techniques that will limit her career to a couple of years. We'll never see her as an adult skater with the increased presentation and artistry of someone like Carolina Kostner. Or a 27-year-old Hanyu.

Were we listening to the same music? Trusova skated to Cruella music (fitting, really) that had this evil, machination sound to it. Her costume was also ghastly: black and really skanky. And as the announcers (Weir/Lip) said, “she’s not pretending to have any artistry, it’s all about the quads”.

That was it. A few quads. After the 2nd one, her program was tiresome (and the whole look ugly).

Give me Chen, Elton and his designer get-up any day. (Also, the last part of his program was really fun.)

While Chen barely has artistic skills, at least he has enough for a fluid presentation.

Trusova is just jump jump jump. They don’t seem connected in any way. Why can’t her coach get her a good choreographer at least?

And Chen's technical skill is way better than Trusova's. Yes, Trusova didn't fall but she had a lot of technical errors.
