Testosterone Therapy

Any every try it? A recent blood test came back low. Any success/horror stories?

Go for weekly injections.

The transdermal patches are messy and smelly. The gel is better, but also smells. I finally demanded the needle.

TRT vastly raises your risk of prostate cancer.

Do your own injections at home. Or get a compound cream you can use daily. I’ve never used the gel.

My brother went for weekly injections but didn't notice any changes that are supposed to come with the therapy.

my doctor told me that once you're on it, you're on it for life.

That it inhibits your body's ability to produce it naturally so if, for any reason, your supply gets interrupted, you will basically turn into a woman.

by Anonymousreply 9June 20, 2022 8:49 PM

They make you really horny.

by Anonymousreply 10June 20, 2022 8:55 PM

Doctors say that to scare you away from it, R9. It’s not necessarily true.

by Anonymousreply 11June 20, 2022 9:05 PM

The key is to do a few weeks on and then a few weeks off. It's like rebooting your system. If you do it every day your testicles will give up and shrink.

I was reading a weekly injectable T manufacturer's pamphlet while waiting for the doctor this afternoon and it said one of the main issues was that it increased blood pressure. Since I'm already on lots of BP meds, that was discouraging.

When I was diagnosed with low testosterone, my doctor had me strip and stimulate him until he he could rub his ejaculate into my scrotum on a weekly basis. He said there were patches and injections but that he was a homeopathic healer.

If you don't have hair on your chest, you will with T therapy. And you will rapidly bald.

I'm not a doctor, but I play one for male teens.

I am in my 50s, and was on T therapy through all of 2020 and into 2021. At the end of 2019, I went to my doctor complaining of feeling low energy and depressed. I also noticed that my sex drive was lacking. A blood test revealed low T. My doctor explained that low T and depression kind of go together, but he implied that my depression might be the thing that was lowering my testosterone, not the other way around.

Started the therapy, full dose once a week, with a shot in the butt each time. Noticed the effects within a couple of weeks. I felt my depression lift, had energy to spare, was horny all the time (which was wasted during the pandemic), and went to the gym regularly and felt fit and muscular and sexy. People also commented that my voice sounded deeper, which I thought was funny. That was the upside.

The downside was that I got acne on my chest, back, and face, and it was oily and gross. It felt like my balls shrank -- they just seemed lighter, I don't know that they really shrunk -- but I did not like that. The other downside was that there were a few times when I picked fights with people over stupid stuff.

I cut back the dosage to a half dose every two weeks, and then just decided to stop. I've been off of it for more than a year, and even though I don't have the sex drive that I had, I feel fine with needing sex only once or twice a week instead of every day. I just decided that having lower T was a part of aging, and I accepted it.

I’ve been on it for 20+ years - started in my late 30s - my natural T levels were ridiculously low. Best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Never had acne or rage - did get a big boost in energy, sex-drive and results from working out.

I understand there could possibly be some long term health risks, but have experiences none thus far and the benefits of it over the last 2 decades will be worth any difficulties I may experience in the future - life is a series of trade offs. I inject myself weekly and will do so until I drop dead.

by Anonymousreply 18June 21, 2022 12:48 AM

^^I also kept a full head of hair and a mostly smooth chest - male pattern baldness and the amount of body hair you have are controlled more by your genetics than your T levels.

by Anonymousreply 19June 21, 2022 12:56 AM

If you use it for an extended period your balls will shrink to raisins. This is not an exaggeration. And if you stop taking the testosterone, they will not return to their normal size. None of this may be an issue for you, but if you like your balls you may want to think twice about taking it.

by Anonymousreply 20June 21, 2022 1:37 AM

R20 is somewhat correct - your balls do shrink somewhat but they don’t disappear. But if you are a candidate for TRT in their normal state your balls aren’t making enough Test, no matter what size they are.

If you want high-normal levels you need to take the shots - and you can’t ever stop because your balls were sub-par to begin with and they will shutdown further - and most likely shrink somewhat — so why would you ever stop the shots anyway? The whole point of TRT is how differently you will feel & function with a more normal level of Test than — what your balls could never produce on their own.

Again - life is a series of trade offs - for someone who is clinically low to forgo the benefits of a high-normal test level for the essentially cosmetic concern over ball size seems rather shortsighted to be - but I will agree that starting TRT is a decision you weigh carefully for yourself.

I am on the cream from a compounding pharmacy. Is it also recommended that I cycle (few weeks on/ few weeks off) when I'm doing the Cream?

by Anonymousreply 22June 25, 2022 7:26 AM

One test? Wait a bit and get tested again.

by Anonymousreply 23June 25, 2022 7:29 AM

R22 - talk yo your doctor, but in general replacement therapy is replacement of something your body doesn’t produce on its own - so cycling off would just crash your level. The whole cycling on / off comes from bodybuilding where guys with normal balls / test level go “on” large doses of T for 8 -12 weeks to gain muscle and then go “off” the extra Test in the hope that their balls don’t permanently shut down - usually with a number of drugs to kickstart then again - all with varying levels of success.

Are you concerned about future fertility? If so you should have been advised yo bank sperm before starting TRT.

I know a guy who was in his late 40s who died because he ended up with cancer, due to testosterone injections.

Make sure you research the hell out of this, OP. And see a specialist or two (if possible) before moving forward.
