I hate instant payments

They should give you a float period like in the old days when you wrote a check. This is so inconvenient. Isn’t there a way around this?

by Anonymousreply 16January 19, 2022 5:57 PM

No.

by Anonymousreply 1January 19, 2022 2:32 PM

Yeah: Keep enough money in your checking account to pay your bills on time.

You put the "cheap" in "cheap whore," don't you?

by Anonymousreply 2January 19, 2022 2:33 PM

Think of it as a fool-proof way to determine whether you can afford it or not.

by Anonymousreply 3January 19, 2022 2:37 PM

OP:

Get a PayPal account and use it as much as possible. Doing so often allows you to "buy in 4"--basically splitting payments up to 4 manageable installments every 2 weeks. I've easily paid for several plane tickets that way (which would've been unaffordable in a lump sum).

What is the interest rate on that?

by Anonymousreply 5January 19, 2022 2:41 PM

0% R5.

I’ve used it multiple times.

by Anonymousreply 6January 19, 2022 2:43 PM

Same here, R4. It makes payments easier and I like it.

Personally, I put the "whore" in "cheap whore."

What was that check floating scam? I think my older sis did it for a bit.

OP types poor.

"Floating a check" or "Check Kiting" is when you write a check knowing there is insufficient funds in the account expecting it will be covered by payday. If you had an account at different banks it could take a week before the check was processed. I think it was Greenspan who changed the rules stating the bank didn't need the physical check and can use an image.

What an asshole.

These companies make gaggles of money. They can afford to spot me for a few days.

by Anonymousreply 14January 19, 2022 5:39 PM

R14 Not with YOUR spending habits, trash! I've seen the receipts!

Who spends $900 each month on combs for Barbie dolls?

[quote]"Floating a check" or "Check Kiting" is when you write a check knowing there is insufficient funds in the account expecting it will be covered by payday.

Actually, check kiting involves more than one bank and is designed to falsely inflate the value of an account.

You write a check from you account at Bank A (lets say to the electric company) but you don't have money to cover it. You then deposit a check made to "Cash" from your account at Bank B. Bank A adds the funds to your account so the electric company check will clear and then you either deposit money in Bank B or Kite from Bank A.

Back in the day, before computers took over, you had to time the kiting process perfectly in order for it to work. Also back in the day, you could go to jail for writing bad checks.
