I’m talking about celebrities that died before your time or died before you became a fan of them. I think it’s easier when they’re dead. You never have to worry about them dying or disappointing you.
Is it easier when your favorite celebrities are dead?

I would have liked to have been fucked by Jelly Roll Morton but I don’t think he was into the homosex. Although he never had children in a time before birth control…

NO. I would love to have seen what Montgomery Clift could have done. I love his pictures and wish that he had made more.

It’s hard being a James Dean fan. He did a lot of television work that I enjoy, but he only starred in 3 movies. Other Old Hollywood stars that died young were at least able to star in more than 3 movies. It sucks not knowing how he would’ve evolved as an actor. It’s also sad he died not knowing the impact he made. Two posthumous Oscar nominations.

The whole Michael Hutchence death/funeral/family and gf feuding/business manager stole all his money drama went on forever, plus the crucial autopsy revelations that really only came out a few years ago in the documentary Mystify Michael Hutchence ....(he'd suffered a traumatic brain injury five years before his death that only he and his gf at the time, Helena Christensen knew about, but which was found post mortem to be way worse than anyone would have guessed) finally meant his death was overwhelmingly judged likely to have been a suicide, not auto erotic asphyxiation.
The whole thing was so sad and for a couple of decades mysterious: did he kill himself or was it an accident? Also, his last partner was not aware of the brain injury and blamed herself for his death. She died a few years later from a heroin overdose after stumbling through addiction and who knows what else. Grief and guilt together are a terrible combination. Especially played out in the tabloids.
So I think you have a point, OP. When someone you admire from afar dies, it isn't fun. I can look at Marvin Gaye and feel sad he didn't live longer, enjoy more, create more, but I'm glad I was too young when he passed away to read all the news and tabloid stories with every development after his death. It's also weird to see Eddie Vedder get older, not so hot, making music I don't find appealing or interesting in any way.
