The backlash has begun!

Vogue Magazine Criticized for Cover Making Black Models Look ‘Entirely Wrong’

A Twitter'Tard tweeted :

“It’s bloody awful. The styling and aesthetic is entirely wrong. We, as usual, have been erased. This isn’t #BlackGirlMagic, it’s Black Girls Tragic. Sack the damn stylist and photographers. In fact, sack the entire team. Smdh,” writer Taiwo Williams tweeted.

Are they naturally that dark or did they darken the skin?

by Anonymousreply 1January 16, 2022 10:19 PM

I will keep posting it until DL shuts down:

TWITTER IS NOT REALITY or an accurate reflection on society.

That said …. The lighting is terrible.

[quote] The backlash has begun!

Wouldn't it be blacklash?

by Anonymousreply 3January 16, 2022 10:24 PM

They’re TOO BLACK!

by Anonymousreply 4January 16, 2022 10:30 PM

So? Sometimes they have terrible covers with white people in them.

by Anonymousreply 5January 16, 2022 10:31 PM

I have never seen anyone that black in my life. They look like they're in blackface.

by Anonymousreply 6January 16, 2022 10:33 PM

Ok too much ignorance already happening on this thread. And it’s mostly 1 person. Enough.

by Anonymousreply 7January 16, 2022 10:34 PM

r1 some are natural, others are clearly edited (check the models other work; Anok Yai, Nyagua Ruea, Abény Nhial, Janet Jumbo, Maty Fall, Akon Changkou, Adut Akech, Amar Akway, Majesty Amare) the darkest is dark but less than Grace Jones, so no way that was natural. Incidentally, there was a dark dark skin filter released just a few months ago that has been making the hackneyed fashion rounds. so, suspect it's that plus makeup.

r4 U.S. wokeism maybe... but more likely to hear it from the radical side of the ados movement

Funny you should post that, R8, as I was just going to post that it reminds me of the cover of Nightclubbing - minus the androgyny.

“Womeism”. Something gay men bitch about minus when it comes to their own rights that they have because of “wokeism” b

by Anonymousreply 10January 16, 2022 10:38 PM

I love how r7 shows up and thinks he can control everyone by demanding it.

by Anonymousreply 11January 16, 2022 10:40 PM

The standing woman on the extreme right looks like she could be one of the aliens from Mars Attacks.

by Anonymousreply 12January 16, 2022 10:40 PM

Everyone?? You’re replying to yourself. You’re one person playing numerous.

by Anonymousreply 13January 16, 2022 10:41 PM

R13 yes, my first post but sure, I'm everyone.

by Anonymousreply 14January 16, 2022 10:42 PM

It would've been great had the models been depicted in their natural skin tones, but some of them were clearly darkened to appear blacker than black.

by Anonymousreply 15January 16, 2022 10:43 PM

This is like when blacks used to use cork on their face to appear blacker in minstrel shows.

by Anonymousreply 16January 17, 2022 3:41 AM

Those are some skinny legs!

by Anonymousreply 17January 17, 2022 3:44 AM

Let's be real, r4: Woke twitter would complain that none of them have a "girl dick", is morbidly obese, is riddled with crippling mental issues, is visibly disabled, or is Muslim.

by Anonymousreply 18January 17, 2022 3:50 AM

It would have been nice if they’d worn some color. Deep jewel tones would have made their skin pop - without the need for a filter or whatever they used that makes them all look so matchy matchy. There’s a “backstage” video and you can see that they all have very different skin tones.

I don’t think Enninful is the genius he thinks he is.

by Anonymousreply 19January 17, 2022 3:59 AM

I actually like this, they look like beautiful black porcelain dolls.

by Anonymousreply 20January 17, 2022 4:38 AM

twilight zonish

by Anonymousreply 21January 17, 2022 4:46 AM

It's kind of a cool pic. It reminds me a bit of the movie "Us".

by Anonymousreply 22January 17, 2022 5:58 AM

They look like mannequins.

by Anonymousreply 23January 17, 2022 6:09 AM

Unfortunately it looks like the zombie apocalypse. It could have been something wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 24January 17, 2022 6:24 AM

It’s because they put straight wigs on them isn’t it?

by Anonymousreply 25January 17, 2022 6:26 AM

The whole thing is just too dark, get a light background, put them in more colorful clothing...good idea but terrible execution.

by Anonymousreply 26January 17, 2022 6:35 AM

The women look uncanny with the oily black skin and anorexic legs. Aesthetically the cover is a failure, unless the photographer were intentionally going for "slight dread". This is like if they tried to make a cover with gay models and everyone had a limp wrist and an exaggerated evil smile. But of course, because criticism is coming from the SJW camp, some of you, including OP, pretend the critics are just playing victim. If a woke kid came warning about an incoming tsunami, OP would probably try to make a joke about blue hypocrites fat-shaming the sea.

by Anonymousreply 28January 17, 2022 6:40 AM

How many threads on this are we going to have?

I haven’t checked but it’s a safe bet it’s true. This culture wars agenda is not something that springs naturally from gay culture — it’s being spun as a widespread gay belief by one particularly sad individual.

by Anonymousreply 30January 17, 2022 6:53 AM

How dreadful. Photographer needs to be canceled.

by Anonymousreply 31January 17, 2022 7:13 AM

I hate that they’re all scowling. So tired of scowling models in general.

by Anonymousreply 32January 17, 2022 7:39 AM

[Quote]It’s because they put straight wigs on them isn’t it?

Sublime. I think R25 has closed this thread.

by Anonymousreply 33January 17, 2022 8:03 AM

[quote]This is like if they tried to make a cover with gay models and everyone had a limp wrist and an exaggerated evil smile.

Haha what? Since when are sinister smiles a gay stereotype?

by Anonymousreply 34January 17, 2022 9:02 AM

This girl from Senegal also has an extremely dark skin, even in natural lighting. I think a lot of African-Americans don’t realise how black some African people are. To them (African Americans) Beyoncé is the Platonic ideal of a black woman, which is why she is so revered.

It's never good enough, is it?

by Anonymousreply 36January 17, 2022 10:42 AM

Skin colour and sometimes hair colour can vary wildly, depending on the lighting. In some pics my hair looks dark-blonde, in others pitch-black. Big deal.

by Anonymousreply 37January 17, 2022 10:49 AM

Sorry, R35. That looks like face paint to me. She may be dark, but that doesn't look natural.

by Anonymousreply 38January 17, 2022 12:28 PM

R27 the cover is terrible....and saying "Woman of color are still being erased" because someone had the wrong aesthetic choice is stupid too.

by Anonymousreply 39January 17, 2022 12:34 PM

Those wigs - ugh!

by Anonymousreply 40January 17, 2022 12:40 PM

I just don't like r7.

by Anonymousreply 41January 17, 2022 12:46 PM

Terrible set up for a photo, they loik like spectators waiting for the show to begin. Weird photo.

by Anonymousreply 42January 17, 2022 1:18 PM

No one does, R41.

by Anonymousreply 43January 17, 2022 2:41 PM

Why did they paint themselves up like Eddie Cantor singing If You Knew Suzy?
